Just found your channel today and its been fantastic so far. Keep up the great work! I look forward to checking out all the others.
Yeah after I help the wife finish creating gardens for our home, I’m gonna try to build something for the water. You make the morning coffee taste better.

I would like to see you do some side by side footage on the water so we can see how the boat performs from another boats perspective. Thanks so much and thank is for sharing your thoughts! You hit the nail on the head... Carolina skiffs/ smaller twin vees / and multiple other manufacturers with “sealed decks” all fall victim to water logged hulls because at some point someone drills into the deck compromising everything. All it takes is minor wear/vibration and stress for a couple screws to wear the holes JUST enough that water intrusion starts. And with time water creeps in eventually causing much bigger problems as well as weighing a ton. Glad you are liking the channel and content!! Cheers and keep an eye out for the next build! Kind of looks like the Amazon river boats they run in South America. It handles chop exceedling well. Are you going to use it in open ocean? You don't mess around, you get it done. Get some vids once you start using it for what you built it for. Awesome build.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the comments and input! 🤙🏼 Unfortunately due to covid ( unemployment ) I was forced to sell this project. REALLY sucked as this boat has been a dream boat of mine to build and built around EXACTLY what I wanted/needed. At the time of filming the last day it was sold literally that afternoon . I recorded a bunch about it but didn’t really have room to add my 10 min “talking” in the video. Haha.
Well in part 1 when you were sawing up that Tri hull I thought this is one crazy SOB , but you had a plan , and yes I’ve thought about finding a cheap azz boat and sawing the deck off to make a flats boat , but you went and started piecing all together and I went , yep ! Your panga should cut some waves and it’s got a lot of room , the one thing I think you should have done was put a chase tube under the floor so you could put your gas line under the floor instead of standing on it , after part one I couldn’t wait to see how you were going to finish it , it looks pretty stable, but we didn’t see you do a hard turn the sides seen a little low ? Sure hope ya got a bulge pump going in , what’s next ? 🤔👍🏼
Hi Dave... I’m still chuckling from your first sentence. That’s pretty much what my friends and family say when they see me pull up with a beater junkyard boat. Haha. You should definitely build one! Why not?! The panga does well on turns , sure the sides seem a bit low but that false transom is pretty far forward also and there’s a bit of room between water and gunnel. As for bilge pump... none needed believe it or not... the deck sits above the waterline and any water in the cockpit drains out holes in back. :) As for what’s next?!?! Buckle up , it’s not only a project crazier then these last two... it’s got a great story/ adventure/ and purpose behind it! Stay tuned and cheers, thanks for the great insight/compliments!

Can ya post a link to that "water heater foam" all I can find is wool ir fiberglass. Will it work with poly resin?or only epoxy or vinyl Ester? Thanks. Sweet build
Thank you so much! I continuously float tested the boat throughout the build to dial in the balance! This is a Big factor when building smaller light boats with small power. Great question thank you!
So might have been covered before but I can’t find it. So your projects are awesome but do you keep them all or sell them after your adventures are done with it?
Hi Karl, great question.. there is not a keel , the boat actually tracks quite well and is not a flat bottom boat. In the first video of the build I actually show the bottom in detail. :) cheers!
Oh, man. My oldest son lives on the North Carolina coast and is an avid fisherman. I'm tempted to build something like this for him. Do you have any issues licensing a homebuilt boat where you are? I'm in Kentucky and it's almost as if the government here has never heard of homemade boats...it's a huge rigmarole to get a HIN, etc.
Hi Mark! That sounds awesome like a great project to share/build for your son! Cheers to building! For title, it’s a simple, yet abused process here. Any “home built” boat under 16’ does not have to be inspected . You simply go to the county tax collector and tell them you built a boat that “x” dimensions and they give you a title. So as you can imagine there’s a bunch of boats that are NOT homemade yet registered as such. Totally NOT legal. If over 16’ your homemade vessel must be inspected by law enforcement , I simple form signed off and cost is zero fir the inspection. Pretty painless. :) I’m going to dig into Kentucky laws ( most likely regulated by game /fish) and see what I can find. Thanks for the comment / question!
Hi Michel, great questions! For these builds I do not have to get them coast guard checked / certified. In fact, coast guard doesn’t even do this on brand new boats... they simply offer a “safety standard “ or guidelines as to what things a manufacturer should do when building a boat. Along with this , the manufacturer creates the little yellow ID plates for coast guard rating . For example ...4 people 940 lbs max weight etc. they calculate these ratings based on coast guard recommendations . The big misconception in the boat world is that this is coast guard “certified” when the reality is a manufacturer is the one dictating what they stamp on the plates and are responsible for holding themselves to standards. :/ The main thing is floatation / fire hazards/ electrical / etc. So in summary , no boat manufacturer is actually coast guard certified. Manufacturers simply build their boats to coast guard standards. :) With that being said, the only concern for me in my builds is proper floatation. I go waaaaay overboard , typically 3-4 times that of what the Coast Guard recommends . ( there’s formulas to calculate floatation that take into consideration boat size , transom height, hp rating, weight, etc) For titles, yes, if the boat has a title or HIN ( hull identification number ) I go the route of applying for new title. If it does not have either, I have to get the vessel inspected and they assign a new HIN. Hope this all helps! Cheers
Hey Forest! Love your channel! I got that GHEENOE from you and I want to pick your brain. Heeelp. Don’t know how to get a hold of you anymore. Maybe I can meet you at boatyard soon, or stop by my home in afternoon. Thanks!
Hi Clint , the sides are constructed of Divynicell H60 High Density core material. Resins / fiberglass can be applied/bonded directly to it and it becomes incredibly strong!
In the thumbnail it’s in about 6” of water. With properly distributed weight I’d say it shouldn’t change much with 2 people and gear. :). Thanks for the question !!
@@diywaterworld that's ok, thank you anyway. Fantastic way to repurpose a boat. I would have never thought of turning that into a panga. My fondest memories are of an 18 foot panga with a 25 hp I had in Panama. It was indestructible.

Thank you so much! I continuously float tested the boat throughout the build to dial in the balance! This is a Big factor when building smaller light boats with small power. Great question thank you!
So might have been covered before but I can’t find it. So your projects are awesome but do you keep them all or sell them after your adventures are done with it?
very good yes
Love it
Sweet build !! I want one lol. What do you think the max horsepower this boat can handle ? I’m thinking a 25 or 30
Great work! Is there any sort of keel(s) along the bottom to help her track a little more true, or is it a pure flatbottom? Thanks.
Hi Karl, great question.. there is not a keel , the boat actually tracks quite well and is not a flat bottom boat. In the first video of the build I actually show the bottom in detail. :) cheers!
Great job! How stable is such a narrow platform?
Please make some more videos with this panga
cool
Thank you for commenting! 🤙🏼
Good build. What HP? What pitch prop?
Awesome!
I’m going to dig into Kentucky laws ( most likely regulated by game /fish) and see what I can find.
Thanks for the comment / question!
Did you use a special blade on your saw when cutting the sides off?
Hi there, no I didn’t. Just regular old wood blades. 😅. They seem to work well!
A little similar to a small Louisiana mud boat hull .
Really cool build ! Do you have to get your builds coast guard certified for max load ect…? do you just use the original vin and do a new title?
With that being said, the only concern for me in my builds is proper floatation. I go waaaaay overboard , typically 3-4 times that of what the Coast Guard recommends . ( there’s formulas to calculate floatation that take into consideration boat size , transom height, hp rating, weight, etc)
For titles, yes, if the boat has a title or HIN ( hull identification number ) I go the route of applying for new title. If it does not have either, I have to get the vessel inspected and they assign a new HIN.
Hope this all helps! Cheers
@@diywaterworld thank you for the detailed answer !
@@michaelgonzalez8863 You're very welcome!
so in texas you need a title for a hull if you don’t have the original it’s worthless , would a recycled boat count as home made ?
Sick!
Bad ass bro... how much for it ☺️ try finding those old ski barge boat n make another badass boat
Haha thank you!!! 🤙🏼. Hmmm, I’m trying to picture and old ski barge ? Can you reply with a link maybe? I don’t know which boats those are. Thanks!
Where did you buy your divinycell?
Hi Melvin. I buy my fiberglass products at Fiberglass Florida located in Stuart , Fl. They also have a great online store. Cheers!
Genius
Hey Forest! Love your channel! I got that GHEENOE from you and I want to pick your brain. Heeelp. Don’t know how to get a hold of you anymore. Maybe I can meet you at boatyard soon, or stop by my home in afternoon. Thanks!
What did he use to build the sides?
Hi Clint , the sides are constructed of Divynicell H60 High Density core material. Resins / fiberglass can be applied/bonded directly to it and it becomes incredibly strong!
What’s it drafting engine up & loaded?
In the thumbnail it’s in about 6” of water. With properly distributed weight I’d say it shouldn’t change much with 2 people and gear. :). Thanks for the question !!
@@diywaterworld man that’s awesome! Put a poling platform on that beast!
Can you make us a video of you goin off shore
Hi Michael, thank you for the comment and request! Absolutely! I’m happy to! Keep an eye out!
Link to first episode?
Is that for sale?
It looks like a panga boat
You got it!!! I call it the poor mans panga! Haha. Thanks for the comment!
Would you be ok to go see it in person?
Hi Juan, normally I’d say absolutely! but this boat is no longer local :/
@@diywaterworld that's ok, thank you anyway. Fantastic way to repurpose a boat. I would have never thought of turning that into a panga. My fondest memories are of an 18 foot panga with a 25 hp I had in Panama. It was indestructible.
Oh man, what a great boat! 18’ with 25 is a dream boat! Are you local to Stuart? In Florida? You will have to swing by sometime to see some builds! Cheers!
@@diywaterworld I'm in Fort Lauderdale, but I have plenty of time to swing by Stuart. By the way, your review on fins was great. I bought a pair of Nautilus.
So cool! And right on! Love those fins! Cheers!
Would love to see you make a skiff out of a sunfish sail boat.
whats the width? it doesnt look 19ft long. i thought it might be 16ft
Hi there, it’s 40” wide . You can see at the very end of the video me sitting in a chair .. gives an idea how narrow it is. And it’s actually just shy of 20’ length ! 🤯 Cheers!
Are you in fl or Bahamas
Hi Richard , currently based in Florida! ☀️
🤘
You build many boat. Do you selling any. Of those boats. $$$
Hi there, some I sell , some I keep and some I have donated to good causes. In a upcoming video is a boat with a special story I am building for someone as a gift. Be sure to watch for more !
@@diywaterworld let me know when ya selling 1 please great videos. Great show and job
