Thank you for sharing your Soliom feeder! I just got mine as a gift about a week ago and I’m loving it. Squirrels can be a problem so we put it up on a pole and bought a cone to put underneath. So far so good!

I read an old farming book that said more birds the better. They eat harmful bugs more so than damage produce and fruit.

It's a 50/50 since birds eat many different things the garden might still be appetizing to them. A friend of mine in Oregon would pout a net over the blueberries she liked the most to keep the birds out and let them have at the others. To help, keep the squirrels away, you could tossmout some unsalted peanuts for them.....

We've been feeding birds near our garden for years and have not noticed any ill effects from it. Wrens come to the feeder and also eat bugs from the garden. So there's at least one benefit. Bluebirds are insectivores, so put up bluebird houses near the garden.

Actually birds need a variety of grains & fruit for adequate nutrition. Sunflower seeds are most fattening. To keep them away from the garden, try plastic owls or hawks. We live where there’s a constant breeze, so I cut up aluminum pie tins to hang, & even whole cds.

I might actually get one of these FOR my garden. I have a problem with Whiteflies every year, and precisely NONE of the garden-safe pesticides available to me here in Commiefornia have been the least bit effective in eradicating them. So I’m inclined to bring the birds closer, in hopes that they’ll help reduce the number of Whiteflies… and GRASSHOPPERS! Wow, we’ve been having a Biblical plague of grasshoppers this year! I certainly hope lice, flies and fleas aren’t next! 😯

Hi... Thank you for posting this video. I have been looking for something like this. I have a couple of questions.... What is the monthly fee that you pay to this company for the cloud service? And if you decide to not pay for the cloud service, what can you not do with this camera? Also, (last question) what is the largest size (in GBs) that a SD card for this unit can take? Thank you again for posting your video!

Have you been able to do anything to stop the squirrels form getting into your bird feeder? And if so, how did you stop them?

@@TheAuriconGroup we put a squirrel baffle or cone underneath the feeder. They cannot climb the pole now😄

My first farm we let most of our land go wild outside of a 1.5 acre barnyard with forage, creek, long grasses, etc & the wild life left our garden alone. Even the chipmunks didn't bother it they were constantly foraging our maple seed pods & dropped fruit like peaches & acorns. Even the deer didn't bother anything we had plenty of blackberry, raspberry, acorns, roses. What did get bothered were young apple trees that weren't fenced all got girdled from rabbits & deer but nothing in the garden itself. I never put out feeders the birds and they had every possible weed seed they could want, fruit like hoke, wild berries, excess fruit & insects galore. We have less forage at this second farm the wild birds were pretty annoying at our chicken coops and would constantly park like vultures to get feed....chickens are now gone so jury is out here...I might have to feed the birds. So far they aren't being a bother but our growing season is just starting.

What USDA Plant Zone are you in? I ask because I think birds have a hard time over winter and in the snow looking for food. If you do not want birds bothering your garden, maybe you can just feed them a little food until winter arrives, then fill up the bird feeder so they can eat all winter? I live in Oregon, USDA Plant Zone 8b. We had about 10 days of under 32 F weather and it was very hard on our birds.

Don't use all sunflower seeds. They are addictive. Your mix should contain 10% or less.

As an aside, I am guessing this is sold as giving you 1920 x 1080 video? If so, I am disappointed in the quality of the video. I wonder if the camera part can be swapped out without loosing the ability to have access to the AI that guesses as to which birds are at your feeder? If it were two units, even an older GoPro small camera would give you much better quality video. The antenna design is poor IMHO. It is behind the metal housing. I might put an adapter onto the connector that the antenna screws into and at least extend the antenna up above the metal housing. Is the bird feeder talking to your cell phone app via WiFi or Bluetooth? Since you have had it, how would you describe it's ability to ID the birds that come to your feeder? Would you say that it is, say, at least 75% correct? Has the photovoltaic been able to charge up the battery most of the time? Is the battery an off the shelf re chargeable battery (as in AA, AAA, D, etc)? You have had it 8 months now. What is your overall impressions now that you have had it for a while? Great job showing how you installed it! Thank you for your video!!
