Very timely video. Today is the opening day of Illinois firearms deer season and I took a nice 4 point buck with my Ruger American gen 2 Ranch in 300 blackout. The load I use is a Hornady 110 gr GMX bullet loaded to 2200 fps. The GMX has a much better BC than that Remington bullet. This is my 6 th deer taken with 300 blackout/whisper.
@@robertfandel9442You are correct and my Ruger is equipped with a single shot adapter so per Illinois DNR it is considered a single shot and in compliance with the law.
Between myself and 2 sons, we've taken 5 deer with .300 BLK. ALL were with the 110gr V-Max, 3 DRT about 40, 80, and 130 yds, other two were borderline shots by the boys, but all recovered within 80 yards. No reason to try anything other than 110gr VMax, when you do your job it does it's job, and it's flat enough at 150 yds compared to this to not think about it. Real world "experience" as you referred to it.
A lot of people wound and lose deer here in the Carolinas trying to get intermediate cartridges to perform like full power cartridges. We tried the 300 Blk on a few depredation hunts using various ammo. It didn't take long to realize the 7.62x39 is a much better cartridge on deer and pigs (as long as you run a good softpoint through it). For those of you saying it's a ballistic twin to the 30-30 because of its higher BC? Negative! It doesn't hold nearly the amount of powder a 30-30 holds and it sheds its energy extremely fast past a hundred yards. Keep your shots inside a hundred yards and use precision and you'll probably be ok. Get sloppy with it and you'll be wishing you hadn't. A guy posted a video today on one of the Southern deer hunter forums of making a good double lung hit at 60 yards with his blackout and the deer ran over 250 yards with zero blood trail. Had it been in heavy cover they'd probably never found it without a dog. Another guy posted a video last week of his son shooting a nice 10 pointer at 45 yards through the lungs with his new Blackout Ruger Ranch. Deer made it 125 yards to the swamp and they never did find it. For every story you see where someone is bragging on their success with their 300 BLK, you'll see 2 more where someone lost their deer and cussing it. Just because something says something on paper doesn't mean its true in the field👍
Alot of people try to use subsonic rounds for hunting or the Hornady 110V/A max. When they should be using the Sierra 125Gamechangers or several different 150grain hunting loads.
I bought the 300 BO in a CVA pistol. It loves my handloads with the 125 gr SST's and 125 gr TNT's. Both running in the 2200 fps range. If I do my job it'll do nickle size groups at 100.
Thanks for the video and information! Never tried a 300 Blackout. I like the 243 Win, it’s low recoil, has a good punch, and has good range. But, you do make a case for the round…. Thanks!
I have taken a huge mule deer buck, a black buck and a white tail doe with the 110 VMax 300 Whisper. My grandsons all four of them have taken all of their first and second deer with the MP AR 300 Whisper. Each deer dropped where they stood. Great deer cartridge.
I've had good luck deer hunting with this round have took several cayotes with it to mines a rem 700 aac16 inch baraell love it with my silencer co harvester 300
I find your reviews to be honest and without bias. You use facts and demonstrations to backup your statements I am learning a lot and find your content a must see, keep it up!
I have taken close to a dozen. I have been hunting a 300 BO since 2011. With two buddies that number easily approached 30+ animals. Most all with 125g but a couple with 135,150&110g bullets but ALL WITH SUPERS. I have another buddy who has had the Whisper for decades a d has killed many with subs and relys upon the bullets tumbling. Its a horriffic hole and quick expiration. Anyhow of those 30+ NOT ONE DEER LOST. ONLY TWO HAD TO BE TRACKED. But you need be a HUNTER not a "SHOOTER". Its WHERE you put the bullet!! Treat it like a close range precision firearm. Don't use past 125 ish yards and it will work fine.
That is the key, shot placement and bullet weights under 130 grains. The BO has done the job for us since 2015. Deer and hogs with no issues. We like the Barnes all copper.
@ I have used that Bullet three times and the 110G BLUE TIP once. They work, I prefer Cup n core esp @ such low velocities. Most Copper bullet will not give a classic mushroom unless impact velocity is north of 2400. There claims at lower velocities are INITIAL expansion. NOT what we expect to see when someone says "it expands".
Great video. I really like the chart. Many bullets stop expanding reliably between 2000 and 1800 fps. There are some that will still expand at even lower velocities, but they are the exception to the rule. The chart shows us that the 300 with many bullets is basically a 100 yard deer cartridge
In the timber in PNW I know a few folks who have replaced their 30-30 for a .300 blk AR and they have had great results . Most of our shots are under 100 yds. Also, thanks for showing us there are more options out there than the barnes for solid copper 300 blk rounds. I'm assuning Remington sells these Zoomies for less than the Barnes options.
300BLK is a great choice for hunting! 2nd year hunting with it and haven’t had anything go more than 10yds Dropped 3 deer this year so far, all DRT, all with pass through with recovered bullets on 2 of them using AAC 110gr black tip out of a 10” BRN180 Would definitely recommend
I have the Ruger Ranch and it is very accurate. I get quite a bit more velocity and energy from a max load of H110 and either a 110 Hornady SP or 125 Sierra Gamechanger. I really like the rifle and it has done a good job on hogs…however, If I were to do it over, I would have gotten the 7.62x39 version of this rig. I load it for a family member’s CZ527 and I get about 200 fps more from it with the same weight bullet. The 245 grain subsonic loads are fun though. Through a suppressor it is very quiet.
My son used a .300 Blk out on his first deer at 5 years old and dropped it in its tracks at 20 yrds. 100% correct that you need to use the light stuff for the increased speed
About 15yrs ago or so ( Time flies ) I "Caught" a decent 6 Point on public land ( MN ) with a 80% I built myself with a hand loaded 125gn white tip Nosler bonded, even made my own 300 brass from Lake city on my lathe, Back before published data, BTW 100% pass through about 50 yards, Buck was say 180-200lbs , there was the exit on the far side shoulder, My hanload with that 125 out of a 16" Ar would run around 2300fps AV, Buddy that we worked up loads had a Barns 110 going 2600fps, He was over pressured , His handloads would start to drop primers after 1 or 2 reloadings ( Keep in mind we were making are own brass at that time so it was already once fired )
Try the Barnes 110 grain Tac TX, these clover leaf out of my CVA Scout. Gorilla ammo also loads the Barnes Tac TX 110’s. I get complete pass through the chest cavity with a great exit hole.
I used a ruger American ranch last year to harvest a decent 8 point, only had a split second shot was probably 115 yards he was walking away in a steady pace was after some does, hit little back went through liver, right lung and was sticking out of hide on right shoulder, I was using federal power shock 150 grain, bullet mushroomed perfectly, deer went 30 yards.
Remington ammo is Federal now. Love and joy to you and yourn. Happy hunting you lucky sonofagun, out here in Arizona if you’re not part of the elite you hardly can even draw a deer tag. And it’ll take you 15 plus years to get an elk tag as a resident.
I have and ruger mini30 from the early 90's and with the Barnes 110gr ttsx it really shines. Totally capable out to 200 250 yards . But most of the time I'm hunting in the old clear cuts and strip mines so 100 yards is more likely.
.300blk AR15 with 110gr. Barnes black tip or Hornady CX is a modern day .30-30 that works great on deer out to 150yds. I built a really lightweight AR with 1-6 scope & used a 10rd mag to keep it small. Zero recoil, very accurate. The expanding copper bullets give you a little insurance for this low powered round.
I'm not a fan of 300 BO for deer, but my oldest son has put 6 deer in the freezer this season. He is basically out of tags; I think he has 1 or two more, but I'm not sure about that ; he took an 8 point buck today. He is a very good shot and an ethical hunter.
I’ve been using aac 150 sabor black tips out of my suppressed ar 300 blackout . Used them first for depredation hunting to see how I would like them. 3 of the 4 dropped where they stood and one ran about 30 yards
Hey brother Great job. I have killed ALOT of animals with mine also only in SUPERSONIC. That said, I use handloaded Vmax 110, I only shoot high shoulder on deer/Antilope. On deer they never go 5 feet. In the woods its my preferred weapon. With hand load 110's I get 2350fps!!! (yes safe load) The point is keeping energy above 1000 to just about 150yards. Now the V-max yes its a varmint bullet but I can attest on deer it is lights out and anchors them each time. The VMAX dumps all its load almost on impact and within like 6 inches of entry it demolishes them and ALWAYS the bullet is in the hide on the exit side. With about 25% retained mass but its still a nice shroom left in 30 diameter so darn thing just works!! Keep it in the woods and shes a beast dude. DO NOT SHOOT over 150yards. I keep 150 max. (for this round) I've tried the 120's and 150's and just loose too much speed. That varmint bullet expands better at low velocity and has better terminal performance than the others Ive tried. When the heavier bullets are too slow they suck. and Listen to WHOTEE-- NO SUBS. They suck for hunting. Last year in the woods 1-buck, 1 doe both at 50 yards and lights out! Thanks for the content brother.
I just finished putting together an AR15 in 6.5 Grendel to use for deer hunting.. and now I'm thinking I NEED a 300 blackout ;) Uses 5.56 mags (that I have a pile of) and 30 cal bullets (again, I have a bunch) so all I'd need is an upper/ sight, a set of dies and some brass.. lol
Lehigh 194 ME sub sonic bullet made for hunting. Expands like a broadhead down to 800 fps. Shot a 8 point last weekend with it. 1020fps. Dropped it in its tracks. Never took a step. I’m a believer. Also I hate on factory ammo boxes they don’t put min reliable velocity for expansion.
I don't shoot copper but Remington 120 otm/HP Is the only affordable 300 blk that expand & frag 8-10 inch barrel pistol FYI what I keep loaded defense & hunting.... Don't shoot copper Too many accuracy issues. WTW is Awesome 👍
its onteresting how ppl hate on the 300blk while gawking over the 30-30 when the 300 blk will deliver more energy at +100 yards. id say theyre equal and you need to limit your range. thanks for sharing! ❤
With all due respect the Hornady Evolution loads are faster and hit harder . And if you hand load lighter 30 caliber bullets you'll outpace 300 Blackout also
@@merlinnorris714 yes you can also load the 30-30 with spire point bullets and only load 2 or single feed and it will out perform the 300blk, but that isnt the norm and what ppl historically refer to when talking about the 30-30s greatness. in short, the 300blk is suprisingly similar to the 30-30s historically great loadings
In my state you can't use banish or silencer to Hunt any animal especially white tail deer and I used my Remington 800 270 win. With a 3x9x40 Nikon Buck master
Southern mn has shotgun only and pistol only northern portion is rifle i travel to hunt with my 270 but when im home (southern part) i use 300 blk pistol
I live on a busy street with houses fairly close together, but I have miles of forest behind the house. Suppressed, subsonic 300 blkout is on its way. My chickens are about to fight back lol
oh and I believe Savage discontinued the 300blk in the axis line which is super frustrating because it was a great rifle. Would have been perfect in the new pro
have you tried the maker bullets? They have copper supper and much heavier subsonic ammo. In videos, cause I haven't used them yet, they look like a grappling hook.
Ill take the 30-30 everytime. Faster follow up shot if needed. Capacity is greater with tube feed. If you load a 30-30 up with 748 powder and 110 grain bullet, you have no problem getting 2500-2550. Even with a 130 grain 2400 - 2500 fps with no pressure warnings. Not to mention you can even do black powder if you choose. The 30-30 has taken more deer and lost more deer than probably any other cartridge.
if I'd consider a 300 Blackout for deer, then I'm getting it in an AR, and it would also be a hog control gun...in which case Bill Wilson has convinced me: 300 HAM'R is better (but then I could spend less money on an AR in 308 WIN and have an even better platform for deer and hogs) ... bottom line: an 30 caliber rifle cartridge on the market other than M1 Carbone gets it done in the southeastern woods
Hornady 110 300blkout years ago . Took 3rnds to take a mature buck at 50 yrds . I would never hunt with a light 300 again. Maybe 150 would be better but I’m not willing to risk it
You are producing 1132 foot pounds of energy. In Ireland min calibre in generally .243 in 100 grain with 1600 ft lbs at the muzzle. The exception is 22/250 in 75 I think.
I shot 3deer 300 blkout barnes 110 grain, wife shot 2, kids shot 3 and the ranges 147yards to 40 yards. Deer never took another step dropped in there tracks. Also supressed and you can hear the wallop!
Unfortunately here in Illinois we can only use any length straight wall cartridges of 30 cal or more that have 500 or more foot pounds of energy or 30 or larger bottle neck cases but the case length has to be under 1.4 in. 243 is definitely not allowed here.
The whisper pickle was too tempting for me 😂 In some places you can get 2+ deer per day. If your fast and accurate you can bag limit every sit with it.
Hey man Gday from down under central west New South Wales Australia. Great vid 300 is a great round for use on mobs of hogs over here. How do you create those drop charts?? Would love to use them for my own calibers
The 300 BO is a fun cartridge, but in my state its below the minimum Ft/LBs to be legal for deer, at least with that loading you showed... maybe a different load would work. It would be fun to try it in brush. I Will have to look at the loadings and charts to compare it with 30-30 to see how far apart they are..
I have a Ruger as well. It does really well with the Barnes 110 Tac tx. I got a good deal on Underwood 115 Controlled chaos from Lucky Gunner and am going to give them a try in a few days when rifle season opens up.
@@SSgt- yeah it went on sale at the local store so I didn’t hesitate. Also picked up the wife a stoeger m3020 so she can have her own shotgun. Made a good excuse to buy another gun lol.
Adam, I just bought the Caldwell Lead Sled DFT2 after seeing the great groups you got w/yours. Hope you didn’t discard yours for some problem I’ll run into in the future. Was it just too heavy? Why’d you ditch it? Just curious. I’d hunt deer with a 300 BO. It’ll do the job. Took my Ruger American 450 BM tho. Got skunked deer hunting lol.
Enjoy the video as always Adam hey Adam have you ever did test with the Hornady evolution in 3030 compared to regular 30/30 and 300 Blackout I know you did one with flat nose 30/30 and 300 Blackout
I get less drop, but horrible accuracy with the Leverevolutions in my Marlin 336. I think the plastic tips deform in the tube magazine. Accuracy was better with a round fresh from the box and single loaded. After a bunch of $$ and time testing ammo, I settled on the Hornady American Whitetail for it's accuracy and performance in the 336...
I’ve watched you do this several times now, a one shot chronograph test round. I do agree with a short range 300 blackout it’s not as important. But for 264 win mag and 300 weatherby why not chrono every round while sighting in and group testing. It’s just more data for a more accurate drop chart. Grab a folding table for the chronograph and use it.
A friend of mine hunts deer with a 300Blk subsonics using 190gr bullets with a pretty good BC. Knocks the deer over every time. His is a little Howa mini with an 18" barrel and an over-barrel silencer. His bullets are just under 1100fps, I know this because I worked up the loads for him... 🙂 With sub sonics it's almost like bow hunting...the rifle is so quiet you can sneak up really close.
I've been using Black Butterfly Maker 200gr Buzz Saws. Harvested an 8pt with a neck shot that turned 2 neck bones to mush, drt. Took a doe double lung, nice exit hole that looked like a broad head arrow wound. She went maybe 10yds. The best part was it's an AR 10.5" pistol with a suppressor. So quiet that other deer would come back to the feeder before the next hunt.
I love the ballistic charts you are including now. Super helpful
Thanks for watching
Killed my biggest buck last year with the 300 blk out using a 110gr v-max at 90yds
Do you recommend them I want to get a 300 but don’t know what ammo to get
Thanks! I'm thinking of that round for woods hunting.

Dang right at the end of well about to watch it and enjoy it as always
My savage 300 blackout shoots a half inch group. Took down 160 pound 8 point with mine!
I don't shoot copper but Remington 120 otm/HP
Is the only affordable 300 blk that expand & frag 8-10 inch barrel pistol FYI what I keep loaded defense & hunting.... Don't shoot copper Too many accuracy issues. WTW is Awesome 👍
My 300 blk ar platform only likes the light 110gr stuff loves the barnes load
its onteresting how ppl hate on the 300blk while gawking over the 30-30 when the 300 blk will deliver more energy at +100 yards. id say theyre equal and you need to limit your range.
thanks for sharing! ❤
With all due respect the Hornady Evolution loads are faster and hit harder . And if you hand load lighter 30 caliber bullets you'll outpace 300 Blackout also
Try finding at the box store. I had a 300saum excellent cartridge good luck finding and if you do it's 75$ for twenty.
None of these new rounds do anything the old ones don't.
Bummer
I like the .300blk and I may do some testing, need to chrono and I get good groups but need another scope.
Southern mn has shotgun only and pistol only northern portion is rifle i travel to hunt with my 270 but when im home (southern part) i use 300 blk pistol
When i won PFI rapid reticle from Halfmilesniper channel i went back & forth for Along time til i picked 7.62x39, scope gas bdc for both calibers .
you can also make bdc regicles work for any caliber if you adjust your zero, OR zero and then know which bdc line correlates to a yardage.
@allthingsconsidered3211 and it has it for sub sonic and goes out to 700 yds which would be a lob for the 2 calibers...lol
Also good on Black bears at reasonable distance
I live on a busy street with houses fairly close together, but I have miles of forest behind the house. Suppressed, subsonic 300 blkout is on its way. My chickens are about to fight back lol
Sweeeeet
I have my savage axis in 308. Great little rifle❤
👍😊 close range.
My son killed his 220 lbs 9 point last year with his 300 blkout. No recoil nice heavy bullet they never run off like they did with his 243.
Awesome
I would like to get a hold of some of those projectiles. Roll my own.
I just did some 300bo reloads, barnes 110gr, super accurate, will be a deer load for my son
Accuracy is not the point just doesnt have enough energy to expand accordingly
@@graysonposey2112 Huh? they are going plenty fast to expand, and are accurate, that is exactly what you want.
Monday following Thanksgiving is Ohios gun week. I wish Remington made that Core loc in 350 legend.
They do. Just released
I’m going to see if I can hunt any of that stuff down at the local store. I e got a bunch of FMJs for practice RN.
I like that chronograph.
shot placement at 50 yards or less with the subs. They don't go anywhere with the Hornady. Super actually went further after impact for me
oh and I believe Savage discontinued the 300blk in the axis line which is super frustrating because it was a great rifle. Would have been perfect in the new pro
They should have made it in the 110
have you tried the maker bullets? They have copper supper and much heavier subsonic ammo. In videos, cause I haven't used them yet, they look like a grappling hook.
Haven't tried those yet
Ill take the 30-30 everytime. Faster follow up shot if needed. Capacity is greater with tube feed.
If you load a 30-30 up with 748 powder and 110 grain bullet, you have no problem getting 2500-2550. Even with a 130 grain 2400 - 2500 fps with no pressure warnings.
Not to mention you can even do black powder if you choose.
The 30-30 has taken more deer and lost more deer than probably any other cartridge.
This baby has all the P&V of a 32-20 out of a '92 carbine.
if I'd consider a 300 Blackout for deer, then I'm getting it in an AR, and it would also be a hog control gun...in which case Bill Wilson has convinced me: 300 HAM'R is better (but then I could spend less money on an AR in 308 WIN and have an even better platform for deer and hogs) ... bottom line: an 30 caliber rifle cartridge on the market other than M1 Carbone gets it done in the southeastern woods
My Granddaughter got her first deer with a 300 Blackout.
Awesome
liked the video but I'm not sold on 300 blackout for deer.
I shot 3deer 300 blkout barnes 110 grain, wife shot 2, kids shot 3 and the ranges 147yards to 40 yards. Deer never took another step dropped in there tracks. Also supressed and you can hear the wallop!
Awesome
@WHOTEEWHO all these comments I dont care what u shoot you hit the boiler room they drop!
I would never choose a 300 BO for deer hunting when the 243 still has almost no recoil and has WAY more speed and energy!
Same, the 30-30 is also ballisticly very similar to 300BLK
Unfortunately here in Illinois we can only use any length straight wall cartridges of 30 cal or more that have 500 or more foot pounds of energy or 30 or larger bottle neck cases but the case length has to be under 1.4 in. 243 is definitely not allowed here.
Is that recoil to you with the 300 blackout? Pretty much like a 5.56…nothing!
The whisper pickle was too tempting for me 😂
In some places you can get 2+ deer per day.
If your fast and accurate you can bag limit every sit with it.
It is plenty enough for white tail
👍👍
Nicely done, new to TN Any recommendations? SW of Nashville
Percy priest wma
@WHOTEEWHO Kool , do you do bird hunting , or trapping
@GustavoCastillaEtherDreams turkeys, yes. Don't do much trapping
I've been thinking about getting a 300 blackout, but I don't know how loud they are. I can't use a suppressor where I live.
Anyway you could do a best rifle and scope black friday combo deal?
❤❤❤
Hey WTW, did you hear what Ron Spomer said about shooting copper bullets??? 😂😂😂
Get outta here 🤣
@WHOTEEWHO 🤣
Hey man Gday from down under central west New South Wales Australia.
Great vid
300 is a great round for use on mobs of hogs over here.
How do you create those drop charts?? Would love to use them for my own calibers
Shooters calculator dot com
The 300 BO is a fun cartridge, but in my state its below the minimum Ft/LBs to be legal for deer, at least with that loading you showed... maybe a different load would work. It would be fun to try it in brush. I Will have to look at the loadings and charts to compare it with 30-30 to see how far apart they are..
What are the minimum energy requirements for your state?
@@krm944 900 ft/lbs at 100 yards.
Adam, love your channel. What do you use to calculate the drop tables? Thanks, good luck this season.
Shooters calculator dot com
U need to catch one of those bullets for us. That would be rad Adam
Good idea
Hornaby sub x ammo expands low vel. Heart lung at 50 75 dead deer
Why did you stop using the Lead Sled? Any issues?
I didn't stop permanently, just trying new things
@@WHOTEEWHO Understandable. Thank you.
@HistorywithG-Hall 👍👍 thanks for watching
I just picked up a gen 1 ranch 300 blk for hunting
Me too, my son bought a Gen 2 so I got his Gen 1 at a deal.
I have a Ruger as well. It does really well with the Barnes 110 Tac tx. I got a good deal on Underwood 115 Controlled chaos from Lucky Gunner and am going to give them a try in a few days when rifle season opens up.
@@brandondennison9152 thanks for the tip. I’m getting my optics and stuff sorted right now. Might get a late season tag yet this year.
@@SSgt- yeah it went on sale at the local store so I didn’t hesitate. Also picked up the wife a stoeger m3020 so she can have her own shotgun. Made a good excuse to buy another gun lol.
I like mine. It needed a little breaking in but operates smooth now and shoots great.
I did not ditch it. That is my favorite rest
Awesome video as usual 🤙🏻 It be cool if they would make the Core-Loc Copper in 223 but in 556 pressure.
Enjoy the video as always Adam hey Adam have you ever did test with the Hornady evolution in 3030 compared to regular 30/30 and 300 Blackout I know you did one with flat nose 30/30 and 300 Blackout
Hmm I did a 3030 ammo test I think but not sure I had that stuff
@@WHOTEEWHO big difference in performance with the Hornady evolution
I get less drop, but horrible accuracy with the Leverevolutions in my Marlin 336. I think the plastic tips deform in the tube magazine. Accuracy was better with a round fresh from the box and single loaded.
After a bunch of $$ and time testing ammo, I settled on the Hornady American Whitetail for it's accuracy and performance in the 336...
@@lostpyper I got good accuracy out of my old 336 Marlin actually took a big old 9 pointer in Nebraska about 235 lb and 175 yards with it
Unless it’s in an ar15, I don’t see the need for a 300BLK
Quieter with a bolt gun. They are fun.
All depends on the distances you are shooting. No one round does it all.
762x39 about the same
Killed quite few hogs with 125 Sierra Pro Hunters. No deer though. On a side note, I can never see the numbers one the chronograph in the videos.
I have been waiting on this video haha
Thanks for watching
🇺🇸👍
Two thumbs up!
I've wondered that myself.
With sub sonics it's almost like bow hunting...the rifle is so quiet you can sneak up really close.
When is this starting
New video 8pm every night
Why don’t you chrono when shooting?
Too much hassle with an extra camera and makes it harder to edit 🤣
@ 🤦♂️
Osm 😘💕👍👍
