Undertale Purgatory is an AU. An after-universe. A collection of familiar faces have gathered to exact revenge on you. They might be shells of their former selves, but they gleefully look forward to tormenting you for all of eternity.
This is new Undertale content that I've looked to forward to debuting! A continuation in the same series as the Mario and Sonic Purgatory videos I have previously done. What makes this series great for shorts is that I can truly make the loops endless. Swipe away if you want to escape, otherwise, stay trapped in Undertale Purgatory... forever.

I love the detail in every short where it shows one word that resonates with each character. For Sans it’s “Remember?” which is referring to the promise that he made for you. For Papyrus it’s “Why?” because you murdered him when he was just trying to spare you. For Undyne it says “You.” as in because you’re the one who killed Papyrus and everyone and then her. For Monster Kid it says “Suffer.” because you killed Undyne, his hero. For Muffet it says “Trapped.” because not only are you trapped in the undertale purgatory box with her for all eternity but that’s also what she said before you killed her. For Napstablook it says “nightmare” because for his battle it’s as if you’re having a nightmare.

the best part is, none of the attacks can actually hit you. because since giving the player an impossibly hard level would give them a challenge to overcome, the best punishment for them is boredom, hence why there are no attacks to dodge

There’s actually a way out of this as you can see the first attack has the long falling bone yea the bone just BARELY reaches inside the box and thus allowing the player to end their eternal suffering

In my opinion, the spaghetti part is absolutely fucking terrifying.
Often in nightmares, innocent things are meshed together with more sinister things. Or this "sinister thing" turns those innocent things into things it can use to its advantage against.
The seemingly cheery and fun innocent spaghetti is now turned against you, almost boiling you alive.

Love the idea that, even when dead, Papyrus is too sweet to actually try to kill the Human. That sharpened bone may have been able to kill, but, Papyrus can’t bring himself to do it.

The fact that Papyrus seems to want to kill you (the merciful thing to do) but barely reins himself in each time (the just thing to do) is rather in-character. After all, you earned your position here. You proved him wrong about you. Perhaps even the worst person _can_ change, but they have to want it. You didn't.

The "Why?" implies that either the player is wondering why they deserve this, or that Papyrus is asking the player why they did what they did to deserve this.

This feels... Different compared to Sans's. Papyrus always believed in Frisk to be a good person, even going as far as to refuse to fight Frisk in their first encounter during the Genocide run. Part of me wants to believe that, rather than doing what his brother did by taunting Frisk by constantly holding off his attacks at the last second, this twisted version of Paps is holding off because... Somehow... *He still believes in you.*

If you look closely, just before Papyrus starts carving the bone, you can kind of see a flash of when Papyrus made you go through the electric puzzle. It’s almost as if he’s remembering the nice times he had with you, and so he stops himself from killing you.

In undertale purgatory, they can’t physically hurt you. You just have to witness the horrifying embodiment of your mistakes and feel the crushing guilt of what you’ve done to them. It cannot physically harm you, but it can destroy you mentally. Seeing their deteriorating bodies after desperately trying to defend themselves fills you with… something… not determination, but regret. You’ve never felt this before…. Player…. You must face what you’ve done. Make this right.
A really depressing thing to hear if I am being honest. Luckily for me, I've never done a Genocide route, so I'm safe!

It's interesting how in all these purgatories, the characters usually seem to want to kill themselves/are taunted with the prospect of dying so they can be put out of their misery (Mario with the Poison Mushroom, Sonic with the barely out of reach spikes, etc.) But with this one, Frisk (or maybe, Chara) still seems to be trying to dodge attacks.
I guess either Chara is DETERMINED to get their turn to attack someday, or perhaps it's Frisk being DETERMINED to get a chance to set things right and spare their long-gone friends. Whichever it is, still a very cool detail!
Or the difference in behavior is dictated by the difference in the torture.
Mario and Sonic both are tortured by monotony, where death is the only possible release from the same eternally binding condition (being stuck in a box, being stuck in a barrel going up and down). It's natural to want to break free, and in these situations, that means having to struggle for death.
Here, the soul is being "attacked" in varyingly terrifying ways. It's not monotonous - the purpose of the attacks, which never hit, is precisely to inflict fear, both of their expected effect and their appearance. And when afraid, it's natural to try to stay as far away from danger as possible, even if you logically already know that the attacks don't present any danger.
Isn't Frisk and Chara the same character.
@@Ark........... Frisk is the child that falls at the start of the game, Chara was the child who fell long long before and turned out to be a cruel evil child. If you take the genocide route Chara will essentially give you a choice, remain in nothingness or give your soul to Chara and they will reset everything but no matter what you will now be Chara from then on, even having an alternate True Pacifist ending that shows it is Chara, and not you.
That said, I imagine this is either Frisk after genocide or it's Chara left in their own personal hell. The latter would be fine but the former would make sense since Frisk can quite literally commit mass murder while Chara despite being evil never did nothing as extreme. That said I think this is the Genocide Frisk that gave their soul to Chara. Sorry for tangent

@@CoolgamerYToffical Chara is the evil entity that Flowey tries so hard to impress. Chara was always a bad child and it is referenced in True Pacifist and Genocide how they enjoyed the suffering of others. In the TP ending you are even told you are much nicer than Chara.
I love the silhouette flash of Frisk standing in front of Papyrus at the start of the loop, that's a really cool detail you added.

So as Lumpy said, Purgatory Paps retains traits of the other Paps, wishing to be friends with the human and likely release them from their suffering despite the fact that this human went all Genocide Run, but as he was coached by Purgatory Undyne prolly, he gotta remind himself to remain cruel.
Meanwhile Purgatory Sans just fuggin keeps the human alive out of pure spite and knows that the human deserves this shit. They ain't gonna die, but he can sure as hell taunt them with possible release. He exists as their punishment. He's gonna make sure they're punished.
That and even as a purgatory representation of the Sans that died in Genocide, he was too lazy to fix up some of the torture shit he uses. That pendulum blade is coming out of his dead undead purgatory paycheck.

My take is that they aren’t trying to keep you alive. The box just stops them from killing you, so you cannot escape. Your stuck here forever. Purgatory.
I personally think it’s more of a horror aspect that you’re trapped in a small space unable to be free, knowing you can be killed in in a single blow, but that blow never comes no matter how many times it is set up, it could even be considered torture, but on a mental level rather than a physical one

Hi, I'm in love with this, Papyrus is my fave from the canon game and that bit where you have him sharpen up the splinter just to throw it aside says SO much about the homage paid to the original incarnation. That is SUCH a good moment. It may be a superhorror AU but he's still Papyrus somewhere in there and that rocks
