Undertale Purgatory is an AU. An after-universe. A collection of familiar faces have gathered to exact revenge on you. They might be shells of their former selves, but they gleefully look forward to tormenting you.
This is new Undertale content that I've looked to forward to debuting! A continuation in the same series as the Mario and Sonic Purgatory videos I have previously done. What makes this series great for shorts is that I can truly make the loops endless. Swipe away if you want to escape, otherwise, stay trapped in Undertale Purgatory... forever.

That’s what I like about her fight in Undertale. Even in a literal battle for the fate of the *universe,* she’s still honourable enough to give you a fair chance.

What I find interesting is that to me it seems like each opponent has a slightly different take on the situation you and them are in. Papyrus seems to genuinely want to put you out of your misery with that sharpened shard of bone he was about to use before simply dropping, Sans seems to relish to opportunity to torture you for eternity (which makes sense considering he’s willing to do just that in the genocide route) with how he laughs after each feigned attack, and undyne seems to desperately want to kill you, judging by her willingness to literally shatter her own teeth just to pry into the battle box. Really interesting imo

i mean, sans really isn't really able to "torture you for eternity" in genocide. Fighting is extremely exhausting for him. From his perspective, he's only putting the effort to fight you *once*. For like, 15 minutes tops.

Well yeah that's what this series Is about, basically it's a Purgatory for us because we can't die so we'll be Stuck in this box Forever and for them because If they don't Attack anymore we Will be given our turn and end our misery.

The fact that undye has flesh could be showing that even now her determination is pulling her back together, but its still just barely not strong enough to bring herself back from death

even with her body rotten and melted like that and she still has some determination on her, it really fits her character how she would do anything for the world's sake

Also apparently Fake Papyrus had to be coached into torturing you instead of befriending you.

after all the EXP and LOVE they gained it made them so powerful to the point of killing anything with one blow.
@@zeniththecreator7671 Word of God. It's a term that refers to bits of canon that comes straight from the mouth of the work's creator (Lumpy in this case).
Undyne seems to have small traces of leftover DETERMINATION in it even after it's flesh melted from the determination.

@@c0al whole series, sans follows through with his plan of never letting the player end that turn, and somehow (we don’t know yet) the main characters reanimate and help sans complete his goal, but they are so hellbent on punishing the player, that they forget who they actually are, and become nothing more than puppets of karma
I love the detail in every short where it shows one word that resonates with each character. For Sans it’s “Remember?” which is referring to the promise that he made for you. For Papyrus it’s “Why?” because you murdered him when he was just trying to spare you. For Undyne it says “You.” as in because you’re the one who killed Papyrus and everyone and then her. For Monster Kid it says “Suffer.” because you killed Undyne, his hero. For Muffet it says “Trapped.” because not only are you trapped in the undertale purgatory box with her for all eternity but that’s also what she said before you killed her. For Napstablook it says “nightmare” because for his battle it’s as if you’re having a nightmare.

2. This is her getting back at you

I think that's more of balancing things out, she wouldn't give Genocide Frisk a shield she probably wouldn't even give pacifist Frisk a shield based on their first encounter

and undyne seems to just go with it... but since it seems that The soul actually wants to die in this situation (i think) IDK if that's true for this

The fact the soul is trying to escape in anyway it can, including death but can’t die just tells you they have no more determination and just want to give up and go away from the mess they have made, but never can.

I was looking for something like this, that shark-like attack at the end was too awesome to ignore
Fun fact: she is actually a "undine" yes, her name is a pun on "undying" and on what she is, an undine is a type of nymph, a water elemental, so actually undyne is a literal fish woman, not really a mermaid or something.
The beautiful blue flowers before her final attack really fits the “calm before the storm”

Undyne's theme song is close to the
Waterfall theme song!
If things are thematically related in the story in undertale, their musical themes and leitmotifs will be embed in each other. For example Undyne's lietmotif is seeded into the end of Asgore's theme, because of their relationship as mentor and student.
Okay, holy fuck. I loved the idea of having the echo flowers show up when Undyne leaves while Waterfall plays to give you a false sense of security before Undyne shows up from seemingly nowhere to eat you, absolutely brilliant

I find it fascinating how Undyne looks specifically, it looks like she's trying to *will* her body back together but since she's a monster can only really get past the muscles part. I dunno, it seems fascinating to me

Dunno about you, but I could really feel the utter hatred in that final attack. In fact, the anger feels like it builds up over time until she just goes all in. Absolutely epic.

I love how in the typical Lumpy's animation with body horror and gore - there is still beauty. Those flowers, that grew out of meaty tentacles I wish there was more things like this. Eternal horror, that at least tries to be pretty. Maybe because of actual good in it. Maybe to calm it's prey.

@@a_puntato29 Sans' plan was to never let you have your turn, This is an interpretation on his plan where you're there for so long you wish for the sweet release of death and the soulless husks of the monsters taunt you with the idea of finishing you off but can never go through with it. The sans version was easily able to send something through the box to tease you but chose to keep mocking you, The papyrus version tried to attack weakly and he abandoned and pushed away the sharp bone that would've presumably been able to breach the box and kill you, The undyne version has her determination and is trying her damn hardest to kill you but failing.

This fits Undyne perfectly. The idea that even Undyne who's in a verged of death, melted both in soul and flesh, still tried to stop much evil being is heart wrenching. Even Undyne who look like evil her self, but it got me still rooting for her because we knew she fight for her people and we knew who the real devil is.

I like how useless the weapons are, like you need no defenses other than the box around you to not die
I like the lightning effect that seems to keep her alive. I know it's probably not the case, but I can imagine Alphys doing that, mad scientist like, desperately trying to keep her love with her, trapping her, both of them in this purgatory forever. "Don't leave me here," she'd say. "You're the only thing I remember,".
And judging by the creature in the bottom right creature, it looks like the next monster will be Alphys, since the monster has always determined what comes next. Could also be Monster Kid, but he doesn’t really play enough of a part

The last attack with her dissapearing, everything going peacful for a moment and then a monstrocity just emerging form the depth to eat you - that's a really cool idea. Would like to see something like that in some Undertale fangame.
I like how confused the heart is in these, its like it knows it should be dodging attacks but can't get hit so they're just left in a state of their thoughts and instincts frying their mind

If you watch the other videos, you can see that there are different words in the boxes. “Remember” for Sans, “why?” for Papyrus and “you” for Undyne. What you can make with the current words you get: “You remember why?” There may be more words to come but I think that the words do mean something important for the lore.
It can also spell
"Why remember you"
Like you deserve to be forgotten after what you've done
Or "Why you remember"
As to question the player's guilt, which is fitting since the whole thing looks like a hauting hallucination
I have watched all the videos, all the words are “why”(papyrus), “remember”(sans), “you”(undyne), “suffer”(monster kid),”you are trapped”(muffet), and “in a nightmare”(napstablook).
(Metal pipe doesn’t count, it is not a part of the canon series)

god. just typing these makes me wanna play the game again.
I feel like they also strangely fit each boss, like with papyrus he's just sad that you did all this, undyne is furious and refuses to give up, so "you" makes sense, and sans has always been mysterious, strange and unpredictable, so "remember" kind of fits him.
I think it’s cool how in the first purgatory the player tried to block the attacks, and now they’re actually trying to get hit by them

@@pocket3216 after a couple of minutes the monster you are fighting dies or smthing, weaker enemies like froggits or whimsuns die in a couple of seconds
I don't think it would really work as a game, at least in the sense that eternal suffering for the player character in a narrative where you have to see it doesn't bode well for the potential gameplay
This is actually the only video that I've seen so far (I've watched a lot of horror) that actually gives me a sense of dread.

So far undyne seems to be the only one truly incapable of killing the player. Sans evidently isn't trying despite being fully capable since he's actively trying to make you miserable and Papyrus can just about manage but is always kind enough to restrain himself with that Dagger he shoos away. Undyne is tragic here because she wants to be free and is willing to end you but despite her determination just can't manage. But she won't stop trying.

Does it help to know that monsters in Undertale generally don't have souls so this Undyne is either just what's left of her body being puppeted by DETERMINATION? or an Illusion?

Ye, can definitely feel the tragic futility in this one. Can only imagine undyne is the one suffering the most here.
She would *want* any of her friends to be free of this cursed existence and most likely, more than anything, wants the human's soul punished for what ever atrocious deed it's responsible for.
edit: not only that, I felt like the echo flowers (and possibly monster kid's head) are all that she has left to hold onto the memories she has left. 😔
(the only thing that could have made that sequence feel any sadder is if it had her piano melody or part of alphys' theme quietly mixed in..)
Waterfall playing with echo with the flowers was so beautiful. I can't even describe how it made me feel. I loved it.

In the down right corner of every Undertale Purgatory short, there is a hint to the next boss or monster to appear

Actually Lumpy made a story about them and on us is to solve that story and also Lumpy replays to the comments giving us hints about story or at least the place where the purgatory series is taking.

Even in the distorted version, this music sounds beautiful. She also had enough determination to try to destroy the main player, and she could freely do it with her spear. And this messages: sans-remember, papyrus-why, undyne-you. When we see the next part, I hope the puzzle will come together.

The next monster is either Alphys or Monster Kid. Look at the bottom right of all these previous videos, you can see a trend forming.

On a serious note that’s insane that you did all this.
The Waterfall area was always my favourite section in Undertale. The music, the atmosphere, the flowers, meeting up with Monster Kid, etc... I remember tearing up out of nowhere when I heard the flowers talking about their wishes the first time I played it. I don’t know why, but something about that part really resonated with me.
I like how undyne’s arrow could reach the soul to change the color but nothing else could

The echo flowers may symbolise the fact that the echo flowers repeat the last thing they heard, in this scenario the echo flowers were repeating the slowed down genocide music. This could be a way of Undyne saying to the player to repent for their actions.

I love how none of the attacks actually hit you in any way. A true purgatory - trapped for eternity, not even death can free you. Horrifying.
That is one terrifying Undyne. Loved when the Echo Flowers appeared, and the shark tking a bite out of the box, but having her teeth shatter was a nice touch.

Everywhere I go, the metal pipe follows me.
Like the others, I choose to interpret that this is purgatory for both you and Undyne. You’re unable to die and she’s unable to kill you. However, unlike Sans and Papyrus, she still has the determination to give it her everything when trying to kill you, breaking her spears and teeth in the process. She’ll probably keep going forever.

The fact undyne even in death was kind enough to give the player a break of peace at the blue waterfall part
Could be taken as psychological torture too, a way of her showing to the player the beauty they both where once from... until the player destroyed it all.
A sad nostalgic moment until she makes you snap back to reality.
It's a bunch of echo flowers though so the question is what are they echoing now that you've killed everyone

I like to think that they are old cry's for help, begging Undyne to stop this "thing" from killing their family's
it is also possible it was a distraction, judging from the fact that she went for a bite near the end. You can also just barely see what looks like a fish moving in the darkness of the water, just before that bite.
