    Today I used this pattern and video to teach my husband to sew. I was making a small for my daughter who is taking metal shop. He made the large. In the end she will be wearing the one her dad made because the small is tiny. I think she's proud to wear the hat her dad made too. Thank you. We had fun.

    thank you so so so much for this, my dad has been welding for over 13 years and i over heard him say the other day that he needed a new one and i just picked up sewing as a hobby and i know this will make him so happy

    I am very happy with this sewing pattern. Was quite surprised that it worked from the first try. The only adjustment I made was to lengthen the headband by half an inch. I used the Medium Size. The rest fit perfectly! My husband is super happy with the cap, thank you very much!😀😁

    I am VERY excited to test this tutorial out! My husband is a welder and he needs a new cap. I found a ton of fun Mario, Star Wars, Marvel etc material online to make him some unique caps, but couldn't seem to find the perfect pattern. Long story short, a quick RUclips search and viewing of your video later, I purchased the pattern linked and will be testing it out as soon as the fabric arrives! THANK YOU for sharing this with us!!!! I truly appreciate it! 😊

      I hope you didn't use polyester link they have in the description. Use 100% cotton only. A welder can be burned. Polyester melts.

    Might be a dumb question but I'm new to welding caps.. So I know there are usually a bunch of sizes, 6, 6 3/4, 6 1/2, 7 and so on and so on.. But since this pattern only has S,M,L... is there a size guide to let us know what sizes are considered Small Med and Large?

    Noo! Don't use polyester! You should use natural fabrics such as cotton, or even wool. Polyester melts and will drip onto your scalp. You don't want molten synthetic fabrics anywhere on your skin, believe me... it sucks. But this is a really good tutorial. I'm going to make one now, thanks!

      That's exactly right. Great advice! Use only 100% cotton.

    Video works great and has awesome detail. Without ever having sown in my life, after two practice caps and little tweaking of the template I have hats that are well worth the money on the template. Thanks so much!

    It seems you don't add to seam allowance... Is it already included on the patter? I haven't seen IT mentioned. Thanks!

    If you attach the front & back to the side panels before you attach the two side panels together, you don't have to fight so much with the curving. Also... instead of leaving a raw edge on the inside... sew the outside band onto the cap pieces, then take the inside band raw edge fold over 1/4 inch and topstitch.. then there are no raw edges, and you have your topstitch in place. The assembly steps you have a pretty ridiculous.

      I a having a hard time matching the front/back to the sides. They don’t match up and have too much extra fabric on the side panels. Ughh. I’m sure I will find the reason for it, probably me not following well but I do same thing as in the video and not looking good. Im frustrated. Wish I could show visual of my situation. Anyways, will keep trying.

    looks like an easy enough pattern to follow. Probably should add your seam allowances to the pattern unless they are included in the pattern size.

    Can you post a picture of the inside of cap. Is the band seam enclosed? Thanks

    • @MrsKatcaetta

      I was wondering also... I tried this twice and the outside looks good but the inside seam doesn't look as good. but I am kinda new to sewing.

    • @XDarkXThanatosX
      @XDarkXThanatosX 4 года назад

      Rather old comment, but still. No, this isn't for a reversible cap, so the inside seams are not enclosed.

    Only comment is with the band. I like to add 3/4-1" elastic. This way if my hair grows or it shrinks slightly in the dryer, it still fits. Thx

    I don't suppose there's an 8 panel pattern for this, is there? If I use heavy weight fabric, I end up with a conehead at the top of the side pieces.
    300D Cordura works out fine though.

    • @maryjanepartlow7267
      @maryjanepartlow7267 4 года назад +1

      I use a 6 panel pattern that doesn’t end up coneheaded lol my fiancé hates the cone effect but honestly I took a comeaux apart and I use their pattern. They are his favorite also the drill fabric is stiffer it seems so it ends up not as bendy make sure you use pinking shears on the inside fabric also that helps it shape to your head. If you don’t have any then use scissors to make a bunch of cuts along the seem on the insides. I use 100% cotton on the outside because it’s most fire resistant of the fabrics then poly cotton on the inside because it’s softer and light weight. Hope this helps some. Good luck on finding an 8 panel or getting you 6 to fit
