honestly we need more tutorials like this. i have been sewing for 20 years and the easiest way to get a pattern to use to make *any* clothing is to use one you already have. u don't have to dissemble it if its a t-shirt, just trace it onto paper trying to make sure u get the entire piece, not stretched or skewed, for each piece.
Thank you, Your video is so on point, I have wanted to make baseball caps for ages but never gathered the courage to do it, until I sew you're youtube video. you made it look so easy. Cheers!!!
I want to make my own engineers hat (/eddie cap) from jeans but the tutorials I found have the bill facing down instead of forward. Your step by step instructions and visuals make me confident I can make mine face forward. Thank you for the video!
Excellent video tutorial! You were born to teach! I have watched a lot of video tutorials on RUclips, and you are absolutely hands down one of the best! Thank you for sharing!!!!
Great tutorial. You are a good teacher. I'm going to try to make small hats for pets, so this really helps me see how to actually make a ball cap. Thank you again. Cheers!
Lovely & useful tutorial. I will definitely start to make baseball cap now especially when my sewing room (shed in the garden) is built. Thanks for this. 👍🏾👍🏾👍👍
This is really nice!! I never thought of making one. Is scary cus you don't want to make mistakes. Waste fabric and time and all of the above. But im gonna try soon i can. Thanks for the simplicity of this video.
I know that feeling of not wanting to make any mistakes.. It helps that sewing is pretty forgiving. If you mess up the stitching you can just take it out and try again ;) In terms of wasting fabric, you can try getting some cheap bedsheets/curtains/etc. from a second hand store and use that. Then you don't have to worry about ruining expensive fabric! And it will still look good in the end. Also, I find that as long as I learned something, the time I spent on a 'failed' project is never really wasted :) I hope you give it a try!
I did in leather , but it was hard as leather was 1mm thick , I didn't finish it yet , but attach brim to hat was challenge , still I learned from you some tricks ,,, thank you
first hat I've found without that little bump on top which my husband hates and good luck finding a decent-looking hat without that bump... what is it called anyway? so i'm going to try this out, I'm not a great sewist but we shall try. Thanks.
You can make the brim insert by painting glue (or cornstarch/wheatstarch/rice starch paste) onto a thick piece of fabric, or a few layers of thin material. Other than that, good video.
Wow....Very Impressive Ellen. Excellent Video, and excellent instructions as well. Every word to the point. Are you Dutch, by any chance? If I sent you all the materials, would you Stitch me a Cap? And let me know How much you would Charge? I am in San Jose, California. Hope to hear from you Ellen. Raymond
Thanks Raymond :) I am Dutch! Did the accent give it away? I appreciate you asking about me making a cap for you, but I don't do any commission work. I have a full time job and making RUclips videos is my hobby, so I don't have time to make things for selling. Maybe you can find someone else who can, on Etsy for example.
Thinking of trying out sewing, is this an okay place to start? I don't mind it being difficult or making mistakes, just want to know if it's *possible*
I need to do this. I have one single hat that fits perfectly and everywhere I shop they are all huge for big beads and they all touch my ears. I can literally cut off an inch on them and then they fit perfect but idk how to fix them of course lmao
+Dylan's DIY Workshop Haha thanks Dylan! Glad to have you on board. I was pretty excited myself when this actually worked and I had a handmade baseball cap :D
This is such a fun new skill to have, I just want to make hats in all the colours and prints I can find! If anybody knows a good place to buy those brim inserts, please let me know. There are only so many dirty old caps at the second hand store I can destroy..
Hi Ellen, I made my own brim insert from extra-ultra-heavy-duty interfacing (which I obtained from the Mill End fabric store south of Portland, Oregon; one of the clerks there makes hats, and he steered me to the correct material). It takes two layers of this interfacing to make a brim. I sewed the two layers together, along several parallel lines, forcing it into a curve as I did so, and the brim retained the curve!!! (The lines run back-to-front on the finished brim.) I am completely satisfied with the resulting brim.
Oh, I once made a flat hat brim out of corrugated plastic, the type that is used for temporary outdoor signs. It has one flat layer of plastic on each side and a corrugated layer down the middle.
this reminds me of a movie i watched of some high school fresh girl who wanted to be popular but didnt have money for clothes, so wearing the rotten stuff her grandmother gave made her a laughing stock, but the minute she saw a sewing machine, she had no idea the tailoring talent she had and started making stuff and took the spotlight off the most popular girl in school who had all the boys, that really made the most popular girl really mad when her boyfriend started dumping her for the fresh girl.
+Kenneth Stensrud Yeah, a tailors ham would work great. I just don't have one and so may many viewers, so this is a way to make it work without one. And yes, I'm from the Netherlands. Did the accent give it away? ;)
Great vid! Just found you at random on insta. Great start and your editing skills are great. Just make the vids shorter than 5mins and get more of your face instead of the background. And make your vibes colorful. Amazing start for a beginner. Keep it up. :D
It's a shame that craft and sewing stores don't sell the hat bill inserts, would love to make hats without destroying other hats. Guess I'll have to look for discarded ones 😑
Дорогая, а ты не видела мою рубашку? Козырек надо было резинкой стянуть, под небольшой дугой и так его пришить к шапке. Тогда бы бейсболка выглядела более стильно.

This tutorial has been clear and easy to follow, thank you. I've been referencing it today to make a cap for a costume for my daughter.

You are first, who showed how to make a visor right. It's one of the most important things when you make hat. Many thanks

Because she didn't share the pattern.
I came to see how you made the brim, but I see that u took an old one and took it from there (genius). Love your fabric weights

Question if I use a thicker non stretchy fabric would I still need to use the interfacing
Wow that was amazing.

I have no skills in sewing but I really want Leon’s hat from Pokémon Sword and Shield, soooo BRING IT ON!!!

You know those cutting boards made of really thin, transparent plastic? I cut those up and form it with a little heat from a hair dryer.

What's the movie name???
@@streamagoraphobic8565 cant remember it, it was a long time ago back in 2008
♥️
So intersting.
To press on a curved surface, use a tailors ham. There is a video on youtube that show how to do it. But are you from the Netherlands btw?
+Kenneth Stensrud Yeah, a tailors ham would work great. I just don't have one and so may many viewers, so this is a way to make it work without one. And yes, I'm from the Netherlands. Did the accent give it away? ;)
Also, your shirt says Technical University of Denmark

Where is the pattern
Do you know de way
Дорогая, а ты не видела мою рубашку?
Козырек надо было резинкой стянуть, под небольшой дугой и так его пришить к шапке. Тогда бы бейсболка выглядела более стильно.
Are u dutch? :0
