Linus be like: "Ya, they claim it's completely silent, but I can still hear the atoms spinning"
turbo7021 LOL
tell em to "Chill out"
They'll quiet down when he gives them positive treatment!
Electronics can make quite some noise actually, much more annoying than fan noise.

"This is their ONLY prototype" As you're trying to balance it with your chin, lift with your back, and sandals on. Im sure they had several heart attacks this video.
I legit laughed for several minutes after reading your comment.
I legit laughed for several minutes after reading your comment.
It's shipped from the other side of the world so I think its pretty tough.
But don't count on that. You never know...
But don't count on that. You never know...
That a legit way to not get your computer stolen.
so heavy the thief can't lift it.
Yeah, but can you imagine moving it up and down stairs tho? I had to move my workstation at work up just one flight of stairs, thing musta weighed 100 pounds.
John Hitman but they can take cpu and gpu away
+fade2black001 72 pounds for a pc is heavy though... and in all honesty is moderately heavy
Lifting 72pounds is one thing. Getting away quickly with a 72 pound computer this size doesn't look easy.
a thief would prefer a laptop or a flat screen TV / computer screen. something they can carry and run with without difficulty.
fade2black001 I change dump truck tires and backhoe tires on a regular basis, I'm not saying it's heavy for me but for the average person 72 pounds Is rather heavy
You can't really shoot thermal IR pictures through glass like that. Heat is going to reflect. You might see a warm spot where the class is getting warmed up by the components but it's not indicative of the actual temperatures. It would be a lot different if you popped off that glass cover. There's no way the heat sink fins are hotter than the components themselves.
I was about to ask where he get that thermal camera ;D
You are correct about the IR picture. Ideally he would have the IR camera inside the case... Even so Linus did report the CPU and GPU temperatures as monitored by the OS. This is one big heatsink... As a student in the 80's I did some heat transfer work at a telecom equipment manufacturer. While I was there they replaced their camera which needed liquid nitrogen with a new one that did not. The first thing we noticed was that a person's glasses distorted the IR readings. It was a lot of fun to play with the camera. Things have changed....
Only $500 for the case and cooler? That's actually much less than I was anticipating.
Houdini111 I'd buy one.
expected like 2000$
Houdini111 duck Yeah I would buy one hopefully by the time it's released it will be a tad bit cheaper but for a all in one case that's not to bad
Id have one at 500 dollars tomorrow,my missis is always moaning about the noise with one case fan and watercooler fan and GPU fans
Thats a very affordable price considering how much a custom loop costs
The sandle and socks build will never get old, especially white socks
So poor to see relatively young people using that combination...what will he use when he reaches the 70 years-mark???
a walking cane with sandals and white socks?
He needs safety shoes, case he drops that beast on his foot .
White socks show the most blood.
its really tempting to ruin the 420 likes....
The irony with silencing your computer is that you notice more and more as it gets quieter. Once the CPU and GPU have been silenced, then the HDDs are noticable. And when those have been replaced by really quiet ones or SSDs altogether, then the fans become noticable. Suddenly you start hearing the motor, the bearings or the tiniest amount of airflow and so on. And when those have been replaced by the most expensive silent fans out there, then you start hearing the capacitors, coils and so on whine or make tiny sounds.
The easiest solution would actually be just putting the PC in a different room (like a storage room), using a wireless mouse and keyboard and only having the cables run to your desk. HDMI cables can easily extend over 15 meters/50 feet. My private NAS isn't the quietest out there, but since it's in a totally different room, it doesn't bother me at all.
Corristo89 This is so, SO FUCKING TRUE, i gave up in trying to make my pc silent, as long it is not anoying, it's ok.
hahahhah thats basically me in that comment hahahaahha
But then you hear your keyboard clicking
Ruiner of Your Day but that’s a satisfying sound
I got around that problem in my old build by having all super-quiet noctua coolers and fans, and then a R9 390x that sounded like a vacuum cleaner. I definitely couldn't hear my HDDs
Glass reflects IR light... You weren't necessarily taking temperature readings.
If that thing ever be my PC, i imagine there are some possibilities
1. It fell off my desk and glass shattered all over
2. It fell off my desk and the floor shattered
3. It didn't fell off but my desk leg broke
4. All of the above
How often do your PC's fall off your desk?
I don't think you'd want a 70 lbs(30kgs) desktop sitting on top of your desk
Or you can put it on the ground??
well since there are no fans involved that also means no dust / vacumm so... yeah?
has no fans there's no need to put it on a desk you could have it on the floor
$500 sounds like a killer deal considering all the engineering that went in to that, plus it's beautiful.
i checked it, you can order the final product since april 2018, it costs freaking 999€...
@@roflcopter3625 Still a good deal if it comes with that hardware.
I mean, the components probably cost around 500$.Add 200 dollars for materials and 50 dollars for the manufacturing process.
That comes off as 750$.
They make 250$ without tax.
With 30% tax that would be 185$.
They are giving it away basically.
Im just a bit worried about the upgrade path,i don't think you could swap the CPU or GPU without sending it to them.
It only includes the case. 1k EUR for the case (about 1150 USD). Even though it's a very cool concept, I think I'll stick to my CM Silencio.
@@LordyHun Well,holy moly...
A grand for the case?
Just use 4x360 rads and you should hear no noise except water pump, and it will cost under 200$.
Yeah, I totally agree with you on that. I use an old CM Silencio case with air, and up until recent times, it was totally silent. (then I OC'd the CPU and GPU "a bit", now it can get audible under load)
If I wanted to spend this much on my PC, I'd rather just buy a PocketNC and just make my own radiators and stuff.

As an American, I agree with your statement.
That is some dope engineering.
And only $500,-? That's crazy.
Pascal M. Still, A custom water loop costs More. This would be a Killer price
+Pascal M. The case includes the cooling system ofc because they won't sell them separately.
I think it's more or less obvious that the actual hardware isn't included.
+Henrik Exactly what I thought, too. A good aluminium/glass case + custom water loop will easily cost you twice as much.
+SunRed To be entirely fair, I kind of doubt the commercial version will use the same case. The case itself is $320,- at its cheapest, so if they use that the price would really be insane.
But even on a $100,- case I think the price is good for what's basically a proof of concept/prototype.
I too have a completely silent fanless computer... However, it's a Chromebook.

Yes, and rest my arm on it while weighing the machine, just to make sure the result is accurate...
genius
Chris Ayres why would you carry your pc all around your house?
kilograms? jeez
If nothing else, this case is a great anti-theft device. Ain't nobody going to steal something that heavy.
Thieves are usually built like wrestlers. They'll walk out with that under one arm and your monitor under the other.
Here a guy robbed a steel gas canister (13Kg ~28,6Lbs) and jumped a wall and then tried to outrun a bystander when discovered!
Birki gts Yep, but still impressive in my opinion, the guy's a comedy with the news reporter, but it's in portuguese though... I laughed my ass off of his "adventure", hhahaha!
yup not gonna get far but be funny to see and how they gonna carry 72 pound case and sasy 55 inch tv out the windows or even door to small for them lol. Also i tink my case full sized tower one like 30 pounds with nothing in it
Im commenting while stealing a tank.
I was extremely nervous that he was going to let the keyboard and mouse fall, and the mouse almost did!
8:10 They don't claim to have a completely silent PC, obviously the parts will still make some noise, they say they have made a completely silent cooling system, and they have.
Using a Flir heat sensitive camera on the glass will only yield temps from the surface of the glass instead of the components inside the case "to the best of my knowledge anyway" XD
DanielVidz I WAS THINKING THAT
Diederik Geertzen I realised after I posted this that someone else had already said the exact same thing.. I'm surprised Linus didn't notice how broad spread the heat was himself.
Exactly my thoughts. That's a HUUUUUUUGGGGEEEE MIIIISSSSTAAAAAAAKKKKKEEEEEEE, LLLIIIIIINNNNNNUUUUSSSSSSSS.
Linus did it again...
Depend on the type of glass used in the case widow. IR wavelengths will be transmitted to varying degree in most common glass types.
What he's doing isn't going to give him an absolute value for temp, but it can still be used to show relative heat changes.
10/10 would buy this case for $500-$750 if it was completely up-gradable like a normal case.
Get this to Massdrop and you'll see it will become possible
what would you upgrade? it already has amazing specs.
bmbmunoz2 he means like he would buy just this enclosure with the heat sink and put his own parts inside as long as you could continue upgrading the other parts like GPU, mobo, etc.
Well of course the enclosure is rumored to be 500 by itself. So obviously you would have to buy your own parts
i would too but the weight is too crazy, hope a smaller ITX system will be available.
should put a hard drive in from 1989 so you get that classic v8 sound

That’s really cool; in the Navy they used Fleurocarbon to cool the 400HZ Converters and recently switched to Air Cooling which requires less maintenance. The only issue with Fleuro-anything is that it’s almost like not driving your car and expecting your air conditioner to still work. Fleuro leaks really easily and evaporates insta story into the atmosphere, and there is no way to refill it most of the time. More maintenance I bet with this example of Fleuro-Propane. Trust me, we did a lot of maintenance and the military knows Fleuro liquid gases do not work in the long run.
Linus cant lift 70 lbs, biceps are obviously 3.5/4
Ahhh, the GTX970 rating scale? :D
motorbiker46 your pun 😂😂😂😂
motorbiker46 yes
Linus, you realize that the glass on the side blocks the camera from seeing much of the heat right?
lol you are right but still the temps on the monitor program cant lie... its truly impressive..
madjimms not only that. aluminum has a low emisivity, so the temperature showed on the IR camera is lower than the real one (unless he configured the emisivity to painted aluminium)

It's the holy grail for a music workstation.
Very impressive.
that makes me think - why we are not using computers to heat water at home.
titos2k Most people use their pc's during the summer as well as the winter
but you still wash your hands in summer, right?
titos2k I normally use cold water because I can't be bothered waiting for the hot water to start flowing. Although, Good idea, using it as a boiler XD
titos2k I originally thought you meant for just heating
you cant just use normal tap water to cool a pc
Hey linus, those FLIR Cam or any infrared thermal camera for that matter, can only measure Surface Temperature, you should remove the sidepanel glass if you want to see the real temperature inside, in the video you are measuring the Glass Sidepanel Temperature, not the internals.
But then if he removes the glass panel that will affect the interior temperatures. But I don't think infrareds would be stopped by glass. Maybe distorted and not be accurate but not stopped.
Rui Medina i have one of those camera, even in the app settings you have to manualy choose the surface reflectivity, is it matte, glossy, or else. Because thermal camera is only reading the surface and very sensitive to the surface reflectivity, it can have a false reading if the surface texture is not set accordingly.
Okay, but still, if he opens it up the temps will go lower than they are, since it's not a ventilated system the results wouldn't be accurate at all. They might still not be accurate but I just see why he did it like he did.
Rui Medina yeah but is it intended ?, because if it is me, i also wanna see the component that is not touched by the cooler, there might be a lit up image and high temp all over the VRMs area of the mobo, because from what i can see there's no cooling / recirculating air touching those component.
Yeah, I guess it would be useful to see with and without the glass because of that characteristic of the FLIR Cam. But because the heat from CPU and GPU are taken out, I don't think the other things would get that hot. But still I would like to see for real what the temps look like.
this was the coolest thing ive seen all week.
Pun intended?

Make a video about integrated cpu graphic, how much they downgrade cpu work while running regular desktop/office tasks. Benchmarks etc.
This. I've been running a third monitor on my CPU and haven't felt any degradation in performance, but would like to see a more objective view on this.
Why not, it is good and cheap for desktop office builds. Not everybody wants to game you know :D
That's dumb, Steve. Integrated graphics are basically a necessity. If you swap GPUs out, you will most likely need to upgrade or change your graphics drivers, or, if you install it for the first time, how would you ever even know that you're installing the right driver if you cannot even see at all? The signal might go through the GPU, but without a driver telling it to calculate the graphics, it does nothing. A CPU comes with integrated graphics that should work with the chipset of the motherboard and its drivers perfectly, so that you have something to look at when you hook up a monitor. Aside from that, not every single computer has or needs a dedicated graphics card, like the one your grandmother uses, for example.
***** They boot up, because they're using the integrated graphics. As I said, tyhe GPU at that point, just passes the signal through.
***** Seeing that a GPU simply does not work without the proper drivers (as is any hardware component), I cannot see it doing anything else than passing the graphics from the integrated chip through it to the monitor without drivers. Besides, it is impossible to find any computer of any kind which uses a monitor or screen without an integrated graphics chip, processor, or whatnot, even if there is a separate addon specifically made for that. Just because that addon may not always work or be present. Integrated graphics, while extremely weak in the 3D department, are extremely important.
$500 for all that custom work is a steal. Compared to a lot of crap, it seems to just flat out beat that. Would invest in this if it really was $500 for the case and cooling only. But I doubt that.

Well, that was "cool".
There's always a tradeoff. The obvious tradeoff with this solution is the extra weight, but the less-obvious tradeoff is the extra power needed to run the Peltier coolers. There's no way an unpowered heatpipe could make the heatsink _hotter_ than the microchip it's cooling, so there has to be a Peltier cooler in there extracting heat out of the microchip and into the heatpipe.
My thoughts exactly they could cause a pressure increase with an extruded pipe but thay wouldnt be significant enough to complete a vapor-compression cycle capable of moving that much heat
I think this is a great cooling solution and if it will stay at 500 pricepoint it can even warm up my flat! I can finally turn off radiators!
Max Hoffer put an amd cpu and gpu in it and it might get a little to toasty though.
But at least you wouldn't need to replace them when the next generation stole all the functional drivers...
I don't think thermodynamics works like this...
It will have equal heat output compared to "normal" coolers.
Actually a bit less since the cooling does not need electricity.
Max Hoffer I use my ps4 for that.

I hope you didn't take those thermal shots while the glass panel was on?
Okay, you took them while the glass panel was on... *facepalm*
he also shows the input from the thermal sensors in the computer. the thermal shots where on purpose to show what a person might feel if they were next to the computer
Uhh... It's glass, you need to pretty much put your face onto it to feel any heat, so seems irrelevant to take such photos from that side of the case. Component level hot spots would have given some revelant information how well the temperature is conducted from the components to heat sink and shown possible trouble areas, for that the sidepanel should have been removed.
Only the heatsink ones were relevant -- the glass side is opaque -- just has the parts because of the visual camera on the flir.
I had to come down to the comments to see if anyone noticed but not many people seem to know that glass does not heat readings through it.
Interesting concept, it would never see production. If 70lbs is giving you that much trouble Linus it may be time to hit the gym, some Deads and overhead presses will do wonders.
TalesOfWar I'm just giving him a bit of a hard time, you are right it is a bulky object but all in all not that bad, I have a large cube case that is over 50lbs and is more awkward to carry but yeah it isn't easy.
why would it never see production? this is like a legitimately good solution that has a market, as opposed to most of the gimmicks shown here. it's also environmental as far as I can tell
lusteraliaszero There is a trend to SFF cases not 72lb ones, and having a few fans isn't that loud so I can't see enough of a business case, no pun intended.
SS S There's an actual demand for fanless servers though.

So the difference isn't that huge for the true enthusiast. It's size is huge though.
After all the "zero fans" claims/hype, at the end of the video he says, like a trival after thought, "oh, by the way, it has a gtx1080 fan". How is it that what is typically the loudest fan in the computer doesn't count???
+Jeff Buchanan it doesn't have a fan
He says "there are lots of fanless computers, but this one [fanless computer] has a gtx 1080 [that is fanless]." Implying, correctly, that there are very few computers that are fanless that have a gtx 1080 in them.
i think you missunderstood what he said. He says there are alot of fan-less computers out there BUT this one has a 1080 in it, as in just the gpu - no fan
ZX Spectrum, Amiga and Atari of the 1980's were also fanless.
cringe
The way this works is fairly easy to explain. Chose a refrigerant that boils slightly below the max continuous operating temp of your electronics but will condense again once it gets close to ambient temps. Mount an evaporator to the components you want to cool, this is where their high tech metal sponge comes into play, the capillary action will draw in more liquid refrigerant as the warmed stuff evaporates and flows to the big passive radiator where it cools back down below the boiling temp and collects in the reservoir at the bottom ready to cycle back to the evaporator. No need for pumps or fans if the radiator is massive enough.
You should have taken the side window off before taking those thermal images. All we see is the temperature of the window, not the parts behind.
Also the radiator is partly blocked by the transport cover. I think you could get a better performance by removing this Polystyrol parts

Linus, it moves in one direction due to membrane valves. Basically, the membrane is large enough for the vaporized coolant to pass through but too small to allow the liquid to pass through, due to surface tension.

+Adaman134 Get a bigger case. $30 for a cheap full size case, plus another $10 for a cheap set of 4 case fans you can use along with the ones you have. $40 is much less than an aftermarket air or water cooler, or a new card, which are the only other things besides airflow that are going to get you better temps. Besides reducing your ambient temperature (room temp), but I'm pretty sure your're not asking this with your thermostat at 85 degrees.

You must be new here to be shocked by this... Socks and Sandals have been his trademark for years.
JohannesMP never noticed it i guess
Autism is just some kind of a trendy inslut in youtube comments lately. It's stupid and makes no sense at all. Most people that use it have no idea what it means but they have nothing better to say i guess.
That is no way to pick up things Linus. Don't fuck up your back pls.
its basic themodynamics, as the compound heats it expands, so you block off one side with a check valve, it only has one way to go, which when closed off in a loop, forces more compound through the check valve, allowing for more cooling
Put dry ice on the aluminium heatsink!
omg imagine the temps
You know that dry ice is a toxic material? (due to hypercapnia)
HistoricaHungarica You know that oxygen is toxic?
Dry ice is fairly safe as long as you don't touch it and if it's in a well ventilated room.
HistoricaHungarica Ah, always someone who takes stuff too seriously.
As long as you have some decent air exchange, it's fine. Technically, all gases can kill you.
How is 55 degrees on a 5820k better than anything but high end water cooling? My 5820k overclocked to 4GHz only hits about 40 under load gaming, and that's with a 280mm corsair all in one that only costs £100. Also, my case isn't an immovable object.
this product isn't for you then my friend
people that make music and such would kill for this PC
amazing performance (not the best obviously) and silent
Run AIDA64 and tell me what your temps hit.
Yeah, even with a stock fan, I get about 40 under heavy load, I think it's more for the silence on top of it. (My computer is literally deafening)
I thought an artist prefer using MAC.
***** not fans, he wrote "a stock fan". must have it in a 5 Celsius room. and heavy load is minesweeper
Is there any sadder image than a small man walking away with socks and sandals to find someone to help him lift something?
Ultimaniac yes, there is.
I’ve been genuinely considering building a space heater function into a rig. In the winter it gets cold and cold hands suck. With ever increasing power consumption of chips I feel it’s a totally reasonable idea when a pc starts drawing 800 watts
i can never get out of my head that he keeps wearing socks with sandals lol haha
Seriously what a slob.
"I wanna run this game for one hour"
come back in 3 freakin day 😅
Iedereen uit belgie whoop whoop in de comments
Misschien wil ik wel helemaal niet uit belgie komen
Michiel De Jong misschien kom ik wel uit Nederland?!
Michiel De Jong tzal wel zijn
België ftw
DBhaacht?
I love how the called a car radiator a "heatsink" so technical 🤣
When they produce that, it will be the last pc case I would ever need.
500 bucks for a case that will make my pc quiet?? hmmm interesting.
aditya yadav hahahaha I loled
Not a bad price actually
"Edited by Drinking Bird”
what the hell. I just watched a video on how the automatic drinking birds work.
Finally... there is no rule that says heatpipes shall only be inside the computer. Would love to see homemade externally radiated, fanless heatpipes.... huge Steampunk style.
the heatsink looks like combine technology
Please correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't all your "thermal readings" of the internals with your IR camera just measuring the temperature of the glass? Most (all?) IR cameras work in bandwiths that cant pass through glass.
9:04 A quad radiator GTX 1080 watercooling loop would outperform this thing by miles, sitting at 40-50 degrees Celsius under load. Just saying.
But would it be dead silent?
Dantheman1you0 "quad radiator" doesn't sound dead silent.
Would you honestly NEED dead silent ever?
But that would not be passive.
I repeat my previous question. Where do you ever need that?
The glass side panel of the case is likely going to be opaque to infra-red (your flircam overlays some kind of edge-detected image from your camera onto the infra-red to make it easier to see what is what). What you're probably just seeing is the temp of the glass (or acrylic) not the temp of the heatsinks on the CPU or GC.
Linus, stop skipping arm day! 73lbs is a LOT for a pc, but certainly not enough to warrant this kind of whining.
he doesnt lift bro. thats what nick is there for
Brad Gefroh he's the bottom bro.
72lbs is like 35kgs.... How weak are you Linus???
yeah
The thing is huge that is the problem. Try to pick up a watermelon half weight of it and you feel it too.
PC techies aren't known for having strong backs...
Sitting on a chair all day...
Advection357 they all have standing desks
lol pcs are heavy lol better with 2 ppl though 30 pounds for pc is nothing
i want to see the amd 9590 in conjunction with the fury x, both full load
dafff08 and boom, 100°C on the heatsink
dafff08 gtx 480 ;)
fury x is cool wtf are you smoking?
They use their own cooling solution here, replacing the 1080s. The Fury X chip itself is definitely not cool without the closed loop AIO. 300W
The Fury X is one of the highest power consumption GPUs in modern times. It only runs "cool" because of the closed loop water cooler.
If they had acoustic insulation it might be truly silent, i have a custom water cooling and a big external MO-RA3 cooler, and semi-passive power supply unit. I could not tell if my PC is running or not. The water pump is bedded on latex pillow material, which decouples the vibration pretty good. But the system is also clunky, heavy, not good looking. I have put my PC on a transport roller for furniture. The Calyos solution looks pretty cool. I think 500$ would be a reasonable price point. A custom water cooler, with a big passive radiator, GPU und CPU cooling, silent water pump will be the same. But if you would like to add acoustic insulation, you might get problems with the in-case temperature, i also cooled my voltage converters for that reason. And if you want to change your GPU or CPU, you might run into problems with such an exotic solution.
500$? that can't be right.
Flip Zilip For just the case
and coolers...
Jakugen
the case plus a completely silent cooling solution that is on par with good liquid cooling. that is not expensive!
*****
i am terribly sorry. noone would have understood what i meant without your correction, thank you.
Sklin Depends, if you're French, you out the $ after the number. Could just be a habit of his.
U guys need like a month to just reorganize the warehouse so u can stop knocking shit over haha
Jman and they will have to reorganize again in no time
Work in a grocery store and you'll quickly realize that no matter how much you clean, it just gets messed up when the next few loads come in.
Jman I hate their office. They get this huge space to work with and it's messy AF. Like seriously, get some storage and keep the the floors clean. It's almost as bad as the house was.
72,5 pounds is 38,2 kilograms. For the entire world outside of America.
I had 13 fans between my case and internals in an earlier build. Sounded like a jet engine. But I think, as Linus said, this was more about server room noise and heat management. I use my newer built PC as a home entertainment/gaming rig with fan throttling to keep it quiet during movie time. This concept would be an asset for hi end home entertainment, or more importantly, pro audio mastering when every dB is crucial to finished product. I also do refrigeration for a living, and yes, I'm certain that there are other freon blends that would perform as well or better so long as they migrate through the capillary 'pores' on par with design specs.
