It’s actually quite funny how old some of these “future” weapons actually are. Makes sense when you think about how militaries are still using weapons from pre-WW2 today. If it works it works.
My favorite aged prediction is the US navy wearing the Navy Workman’s Uniform Type 1 (Blue Digital) in 2025. Navy introduced it around 2008 irl, fully adopted it across the entire Navy in 2013 (a year after the game came out), and then discontinued it in 2019 for Area of Responsibility Type II (AOR II) camouflage which is what they use currently.
@@ace8656 If you're talking about the 2POC, that's a replacement for the FRV's (Coveralls). Not the NWU. Khaki for Chiefs and officers, blue for lower enlisted.
What they got right was the fact that a majority of firearms in service are well over a few decades old by this point. Militaries in general are extremely slow to adopt new weaponry and they'll make use of a weapon for many decades to come before they even consider adopting new weaponry. Black Ops 2 generally played it safe with their weapon choices, seeing that a good majority of them have seen some degree of service in some militaries/law enforcement agencies. What they underrestimated was the US Armed Forces' attachment to the AR platform, seeing that they had the XM8 act as their standard issue rifle. It would be logistically impossible to replace every AR variant with an XM8 by 2025. You probably would've had to start that process as far back as the 90s/2000s to make that believable, especially for them to already develop an A1 variant.
Counter-point: most of the M8A1 users in the game were clearly special forces (Yemeni Special Force, Navy Seals, Presidential Guard, etc.). For all we know, the regular grunts might still be using regular M4 in the game
Well, they also couldn't predict the SIG Spear or anything related to the NGSW program, which is actually more confident of being adopted than what happened to the XM-8.
There's at least 4 presentations on Paul Harrel's channel on the judge(executioner.) If you want to know how incompetent the gun actually is, its one of the few times where Paul said this gun sucks compared to him usually letting the viewer come to their own opinion based on the presentation. The really short version on why it sucks so bad is because the .410 guage shells spread so far out even at distances of ten yards its not worth shooting 410 guage. As for 45LC/454, those rounds have weigned in popularity so Paul had to go to multiple stores to find them(i think it was 4) but if you just bought a autoloader in 9mm/45acp/40S&W/22lr/380 or got a revolver in 38/357 you could find ammo at basically any store. In the accuracy test it was also shown to be the same/less accurate then other common pistols. The gun is also about half the size of a cinderblock so its just way too big to conceal/carry in the woods. Basically the guns main problem is it is average to abysmal in everything while costing more then any polymer/steelframed guns that are good to excellent in everything.
20:13 actually DSarms provided the Argentine Army with upgrade kits for their FAL rifles, converting them into what was called FAMCa (Fusil Argentino Modelo Carabina), its not the standard issue but a lot of specialized units (like the 601 commandos) have them.
Great Video! There are a few things that I’d like to add here that I feel like give BO2 some extra credit. For the XM8, LSAT, KAP-40, and AN-94, although those weapons specifically weren’t adopted or straight up don’t exist, the idea of them are all fairly accurate in concept. The US Army is replacing the M4 and M249 SAW with the XM7 and XM250, which are expected to get into hands of troops by the end of this year. So although the weapons in the game aren’t exactly what happened, they were correct in the idea of the M4 and the SAW being replaced on or around 2025 and to the context of 2012 it’s not unreasonable to assume the XM8 and LSAT were where the US military was headed. This similair concept applies to the KAP-40 in my opinion, as even though it’s totally fictional the US military has replaced the M9 with the M17 since 2012, so I feel like that’s another credit to predicting the replacement of the US Military’s sidearm. And as for the AN-94, although it’s a 30 year old design that even as of 2012 everyone knew would never see the light of day, shortly before the war in Ukraine the Russian military started to field the AK-12 platform, an upgraded AK-74 that includes the AN-94’s 2 round burst feature (although not a hyper burst and simply at the weapon’s mechanical cyclic rate of ~900 RPM, the concept is there despite mixed reviews of its effectiveness). So the AN-94 itself is virtually non-existent but BO2 was correct to assume that by 2025 the Russian military would be using an upgraded AK-74 with the hallmark “hyperburst”. I’m in no way trying to take away from the video, it was a great watch and I definitely learned some things about some weapons that I figured no military would touch, just felt like adding my own autistic two cents. Edit: Various typos lol
They didn’t NAIL it… but, imagine how cool it would be if they did. The weapons were SO distinctive and satisfying, and they’ve stuck in my mind ever since November of 2012. They took a huge risk doing A LOT of guess work, and it clearly shows… especially with cool concept designs and prototypes which were being discussed back then being adapted into the game one way or another.
17:41 The QBZ 95 began being phased out and replaced by the QBZ 191 when it was anmounced back in 2019 It is an AR180 style rifle with a rock in mag like an AK
DSA does have military contracts. It is usually for refurbishing or supplying spare parts for FALs. As a Ship of Theseus, there are DSA FALs in south american military service.
What’s also notable about the Peacekeeper is that it fires the aforementioned FN 5.7x28mm round used in Both the P90 and Five Seven. Which is why it feels lukewarm a hybrid between an SMG and AR, since it’s an AR platform (not AR-15, I just mean assault rifles in general) firing a PDW round. The closest equivalent is the AR57 which is actually pretty dang cool
20:45 The hk416 wasn’t created to replace the mp5, rather to make a more reliable m4 variant for delta. That’s where the name actually comes from. The 4 is for the m4 and the 16 for m16. Hk416. Also while in development it was called the hk m4 but they had to change the name due to copy rights. Also technically speaking it’s not an ar15 derivative due to the fact it’s a short stroke piston rather than a Direct impingement like the ar15 is. It’s an AR18 derivative which is based of the ar15 but with a short stroke piston system
Socom doesn’t use the honey badger, they use the sig mcx lvaw for 300 blackout, they might’ve used it before tho in limited use but I have no evidence for that.
