    Is this still being produced with this exact configuration? It’s exactly what I’m looking for to back up my sd card reader port’s everything even a screen ! Does it read all the different codecs for Sony and cannon ? Peace 👽

      It does not appear this product is still in production, but you can still find a few on Amazon. I am not sure if it handles all of those codecs through the viewing app, but it will transfer any files from any card to the internal drive.

    I bought one for my iPad Pro 2008 with usb c. Firstly i had to connect to another device(in my case my android phone) to update the firmware so that the copilot could connect to the ipad. I did that and then connected to the ipad and copied some files onto the ipad successfully. However the next time I tried to connect to the ipad the copilot boss program doesn;t start, and when i start it connect the copilot it says connecting, and then tells me to connect the copilot. I then tried to connect it to my android phone, which worked when updating the firmware, but that too has the same problem. So I currently have a very expensive hard drive that i can connect to my computer and nothing else.

      Geoff Cooper That’s odd. I have never had any problems connecting. Make sure that when you go to disconnect the Copilot that you actually hit the eject button in the app. This ensures the drive is disconnected properly. Let me know if this helps with your connection issues.

      @@BartJohnsonProd Hi Bart. I have solved the problem. When I originally updated the firmware , via my Pixel 2 XL it was updated to 1.0.17 and it connected to ipad pro fine. Incidentally that is still the version number showing on the App Store. But what I did today was to uninstall the app on the Pixel and then install again which then required a firmware update again. I did that, and then connected to the ipad pro successfully and the version is showing at 1.0.41. I just hope I don't have to constantly repeat the process.

      Geoff Cooper Glad you got it figured out! I believe now that you are all up to date and having no problems connecting, you should be able to do any app and firmware updates directly from the iPad. I hope it starts performing better for you!

    Best drive for backup all type of cards, as hub and as expansion storage for iPad. Have you tried with xqd reader to usbc port of lacie if that works? And what about using a usb c hub connected to the usb c port of lacie, can i connect in that way for example 2-4 ssd at the same times?

    • @BartJohnsonProd
      @BartJohnsonProd  6 лет назад +1

      I have not tried XQD as I don’t use those cards, but I have tried the CFast and even Shogun SSDs and it works. I haven’t tried connecting a hub, but I don’t think it will work. That would require some sort of OS like a computer to recognize each individual attached SSD as a volume. This is looking for just a single attached source. Again, haven’t tried it.

    Didn't Apple say that none of their iOS devices, especially the iPad Pros (all 3 iterations) would NOT support external drives? I first heard about this on Ted Forbes's channel and it looks very promising. I do agree about the Spinner v SSD, hopefully, an SSD is in the works. Like many field shooters/editors who have migrated over to mobile editing, leaving our MacBooks at home, an external drive that will interface with iOS will make a life a WHOLE lot easier.

    • @BartJohnsonProd
      @BartJohnsonProd  6 лет назад +1

      The drive does not interface directly with the file system of the iOS devices. Instead the Copilot app acts as the controller and does allow you to access the drive. The app will even allow you to save files directly to the drive via the iOS options. They also recently updated the Copilot app to work with the new USBC iPad Pros. I use it with the Pro 11 inch. I have been experimenting with leaving the laptop at home, dumping my cards directly to the Copilot, plugging it into my iPad Pro, and then editing the footage with LumaFusion. And it works!

    Thanks for this video. Can we do backups to Google Drive from the Copilot Boss app?

    can it work with iTunes films I have a 512 gig iPad pro and im looking to offload my movie collection to a hard drive to free up space

    • @BartJohnsonProd
      @BartJohnsonProd  4 года назад

      It can hold the files, but you would not necessarily be able to play the directly from it. I haven't tired this specific application of it.

    • @JFL1988
      @JFL1988 4 года назад

      yea. I thought so because of the stupid drm movie studios put on your files you get from iTunes if you could try it to see if it works that would be great

    • @JFL1988
      @JFL1988 4 года назад

      we really need a way to download our purchased movies drm free so we can load our files to hard drives and offload them on our iOS devices

    2 things: I assume when you transfer files to the iPad, they are in the same format you shot them in? (ie Raw)
    Can you erase your memory cards with this after copying the files?

    If you copy your SD card does it copy all the content of the card always, or will it know to only add copies of new images?

    • @BartJohnsonProd
      @BartJohnsonProd  5 лет назад

      It will create a new folder with the time stamp and will copy all of the contents of the SD card.

    does it possible replace with 2TB SSD ourselves?

    • @BartJohnsonProd
      @BartJohnsonProd  5 лет назад

      I don’t believe so. You would need to disassemble the unit and would risk damaging it. I hope they come out with an SSD version in the future!

    Will this work as a battery bank?

    • @BartJohnsonProd
      @BartJohnsonProd  6 лет назад

      Sadly it will not. It will charge your phone or iPad when connected, but not other devices. Would’ve been nice!

      I haven’t had any issues with it so far, but I only received it about two weeks ago. I have given it some good use and it has performed quite well. LaCie is a reliable manufacturer, so I have confidence in it!

      Bart Johnson Productions nice! Would love to have this, makes sense that DJI would pair up with them because when you go out and film with drones this is a must

      Early reviews from people who paid for them (not sure if Bart paid or not) is that they overheat, can only transfer on battery (not plugged in?) and that they're not meant for professionals yet.
      For the price ($350?) I have a VERY solid SSD-based laptop that boots up instantly always, lets me copy from anything to anything, and I can even preview clips to make sure they're solid.
      With my laptop, I also get checksum to verify that the data actually copied.
