- Hydrotherapy is a story of adaptation, strength & re-wilding set in the raw and beautiful landscapes of Snowdonia National park. Laura has not only overcome a life changing illness through wild swimming, but has also found a greater connection to the natural world. This has ignited her mission to make a stand for the natural environment, and protect wild waters and wild spaces across the UK.

This activity comes with significant risks. With fewer lifeguards on duty at the moment, and cold water temperatures, now may not be the time to risk your safety, or risk putting any additional strains on emergency services. We really hope that you feel inspired to start planning some wild swimming adventures, but for now we urge you to consider yours and others safety in participating in any form of open water swimming. I found myself in the wilderness. I was healed of self doubt and loneliness. It seems strange that being alone in the wild can cure loneliness, but nature is powerful medicine. Nature has great curative properties, especially water.
Exactly what happened with me too!
Well said.
NATIVE MEDICINE
If you are in a busy place but can't reallt connect with anyone you will feel lonely for sure. But in the wilde it is only you and nature, so very peacefull. In the city you will feel lonely while never being completely alone. In the wild you are alone but not lonely

Thank you so much for this beautiful film. I too am a wild swimmer and I too have Fibromyalgia. Being in the water has been the biggest help for me and even on the days when the act of swimming takes pretty much every last ounce of energy I have, I come away feeling elated, grateful and immensely privileged. Today I am incapacitated by a lower back spasm and this film was a gift. The sounds, the light under peaty water and a feeling of solidarity. Thank you... these are the things that see me through until I can next get in the water myself. Strength to you.

Nature is healing. Being in it solves so many things for me all at once. I was raised on the panhandle on the gulf coast, and I have always swam in the gulf of Mexico all of my life and this is the exact reason why.
Nature IS therapy💛
Its all about balance, just spending more time in nature will help with anxiety. We still need to take care of our responsibilities and anxiety can be a great teacher.
Whenever the seasons allow, I'm swimming in the glacier water here in the Canadian Rockies. It alleviates the stress and pain I feel from my PTSD and anxiety and I've been doing it for years now. What a beautiful Film and stunning photography , im too an addict to the snowdonia waters. Being in the natural lake or river water is the ultimate way to experience, and be in nature making for a fulfilling time, and being in the moment as the attention is taken right away from every day stresses . I find the focus of my summer hikes revolves entirely around finding new locations for a dip and relaxing brew after. I say dip as being a weak swimmer stay near the safety of the shore, wish I could swim like Laura. Thankyou for sharing this awesome story

Never a truer word spoken. Here in Sydney, we're blessed with an abundance of beautiful places to escape. Today I was a bit blue for some reason, so I removed my shoes, stepped out the front door and did a 3km barefoot bushwalk, returning home with a renewed gratitude for my life. Just organised an early swim with a mate at a beautiful river beach on the Hawkesbury River just north of Sydney for Thu morning. Can't wait - it's wonderful that we can share energy and motivational spirit like this! Cheers - Dave

I’ve been doing the cold showers for 3 months now. Would love to get into this but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere local to go. I’m tempted to try the local reservoir but I don’t think technically you’re allowed. Plus there’s warning signs about green algae. Frustrating as it’s only 10 minutes on the bike to get there.

I have seen this film a few times, I know these wild places, and that together with the water sound, it makes me feel calm. I love wild swimming, and I too have fibromyalgia amongst other things. I would love to be brave enough to swim all year round, but even swimming in summer has become tricky. A lot of my pain is triggered by cold, so there is fear around getting cold. I miss that freedom. Throwing yourself into watery places you love. I learned to swim in the river at Capel Curig as a child, after years of failing to learn in a pool, despite lessons. The fun and precious times we had on that river bank were priceless, and I gave the same experiences to my own children. There is nothing like it 💜

Hi, I have C-PTSD and discovered swimming in natural lakes not only as a skill to feel my body again but also as a good resource to calm down from stress and anxiety. My therapist gave me the homework to go swimming in a lake after work at least 2 times in the course of next week, no matter how tired I am. I could relate so much to the video as I work late as well after everyone else has left, always feeling guilty. My concentration is bad. It’s interesting, I stumbled across this video especially now. It’s a wonderful, strong message that motivates me. Thank you for this great piece of art!
I have the EXACT same anxiety, the lack of not knowing the world around me as I age, its the nature and environment im not connecting with at the levels I used to scares me to my core. You have found your way!

A truly brilliant video! As a pain specialist I saw others who also found relief from cold water swimming. This video truly moves the spirit in a new and otherworldly direction too though and I think is very special indeed and since I first saw it decided to also try it for my own metamorphosis and pain relief and can now write here. This is pure inspiration at its best. Thank you for sharing.
It's true. Being in, cold water, is very renewing... almost like being baptized... invigorating... accomplishing.
My favorite, is being so hot from being in a hot tub, then quickly going into very cold, and back and forth for about 2, 3 hours.
After that, I feel so cleansed, refreshed, alive, healthy.
This is a really great film🧕
This refreshed my spirit so much. Thank you. I think we all need to rewild back to nature. We are not meant to be in these concrete jungles or with metal devices in hand. We are part of nature and our separation from it is partly why we are ill.

I’m still trying. At times making some progress but have fallen down, what seems like, even more and the last one and a half year it’s started to become too much. Every one around me have now been with their partner for many years, have several children and high educations with blossoming careers and achieving and reaching more and more of their dreams and goals. I started breaking down mentally and physically 12-15 years ago. Today I am nobody. I have nothing to be proud of. No capacity, no money, no education, no family, no friends (even though I am cheerful my friends are busy living life and we have nothing in common anymore - I’m the disabled, lonely, single, broke one), no love life for years, and youth is gone now. I seriously have been contemplating to end it all again. I am soon 40 and my brain break down from slightest mental exercise/challenge and my body as well. I can’t even afford to go to a hairdresser, the dentist or buy a commute travelling card, a car is out of the question, and I’m stuck in a tiny rental apartment with all the neighbor’s screaming children and concrete walls/tiny yard outside my two windows. I try but I can’t find any energy or strength to do much more than just try to get better but break down. Being lonely and severely ill for years while seeing high achievers all around me just moving forward for years ... I’m the “tragic” loner in my neighbourhood. :/
I have no identity anymore, I don’t know who I am, who I want to be, where I want to go. I have to many dreams going all different directions and all of my dreams are too high. I can’t even control my temper anymore during the worst weeks. I have been isolated for many years being disabled and too ill, while most of the rest of the world started making a huge fuzz about feeling depressed and freedom deprived after only weeks into the pandemic started (can’t go to the Alps or their summer houses on the French Riviera or to their retreats around their world, and how dare society make them need to care for their own children during daytime ...). Try my life or someone else’s that has been ill, lonely, outside society for over ten years or even a whole life I think.
Yes I’m stuck in deep depression. Even went back eight years and tried antidepressants for several months but only get extreme headaches and head lightnings/flashes.
I do deep breath, I do the cold showers, I try meditation as much as I can, I try to go into good feelings but wake up from extreme stress dreams and nightmares and get stuck in a mode just trying to change my vibe. I’m stuck and exhausted. Most days my day is a struggle to think good thoughts and lift myself up to brush my teeth and hopefully get a shower. This routine takes approximately 5-6 hours.
Don’t worry mate at least you have no addiction problems....
You think your life is bad . I don’t even know where to begin.....
All I can say is don’t give up and seek Jesus Christ Lord and saviour
Went swimming in a lake in Scotland only last week. It’s so refreshing and calming and the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful (tbh it might have been the icy water that took my breath away but still).
I also swam in an amazing gorge, full of waterfalls, plunge pools and the sound of bubbling, trickling water. It really helped me to focus on the present, drawing me out of my anxious self.
I remember very clearly swimming in a cold lake surrounded by the natural world. It helped me a lot when I was going through a very painful experience. I shut off from what was going on around me and didn't feel much except adrenaline and anxiety. The freezing water seemed to wake me up and allowed me to feel. Very thankful for that.
I hope you are still doing it.Once you have literally broken the ice,you should continue. Bless from nz.
Cold water definitely and powerfully affects the mind-body connection. I went on a bad 'trip' underestimating edibles and a voice said take a cold shower---well, 4 coldest of cold showers completely sobered me up. I'll never forget it!
Water carries memories when you are fully engulfed in water especially cold water all your senses at the moment. You have to focus to keep your breath calm and to start swimming.
I always try to go for a swim on every journey, even if it is just 5-10 minutes. I can always recall these in so much detail even 20 years later. There is nothing better to connect with the land in a deep way. Every time is unique.
