If osu become mainstream, i'm afraid it will face the same fate as FNF. Those time are not great at all. Many wannabe kid tryna show of their skill on 3* chart and being toxic like they're the pros at rhythm game
to me at least, osu!'s better off not being a mainstream popular game. even with the size that it has at the moment, it's still small and comfortable enough that you can easily interact with the community despite not having a huge following there's still that charm in the community where the ppy and content creators can still directly interact with the community closely without any issues or concerns about people being left out
I remember my first week in osu I was playing 1 stars on my laptop on my college campus and a person conplained how slow the game looked compared to what they saw online. Like yeah buddy I just started 💀
The reason why I think osu not being mainstream is fine is because then Nintendo would actually give a shit and then sue the hell outta the game since it started out as a pc port of a nintendo ds game. I’d rather have it niche and still alive rather than a moment in the sun only to burn out like icarus.
I agree to a certain extent that osu! not being a mainstream game has its benefits, but having to explain the game to someone like a friend who has never played or heard of the game before is an incredibly daunting task...
I find accessibility a big reason too, thinking back to my early days playing and the skin options are so hidden and there is nothing to tell you that there are thousands of them out there which make the game more playable, or how about beatmaps, in stable especially it relies on osu direct which is locked behind the pay wall, but despite lazer not having the pay wall it still fails as it never directs you to where to download maps and even if you make it there you are still locked behind featured artists unless you know how to change the setting, I dont think we need to baby users into the game, but users need direction in order to continue playing, just my opinion tho
Standard is super unaccesssible because you have infinite maps to play but you can only actually play 0,001% of the maps at first. All easy maps look and play the same so it gets super boring, when I asked other STD players they just had no idea what to tell me other than "you get better if you play more, so youll have more fun eventually" (????), plus combo scaling made it not even a rhythm game back then, rather a combo game (IT'S SUPER COOL NOW THAT WE FIXED THAT GOOD JOB). I played VSRG for a couple years until I got into STD after watching many many hours of content on it and making more online friends who played STD, because VSRG was the simplest thing ever to learn. IMO osu won't be mainstream because it is based on music that most people but us dont like (and that's fine) I just think we need to quit the stupid "play more" mentality and be more friendly with the 7 and 6 digits instead of dunking on their scores like they are worth nothing 🤠🤠
I think it's mainly because of the bad rep the osu community honestly has. Not only that, but the issue with copyright is really bad for osu. Lot's of people don't like the fact that in osu, you can take any song and publish it as a beatmap for anyone to use for free. It has a bad reputation from sponsors and other communities because of that. Also the fact that the osu community kind of has a bad reputation. A lot of things come to mind, like the a_hisa situation, the predator allegations, the immaturity of the people in the community, and the osu backgrounds being way too gooner bait. It's to the point that it can be embarrasing to tell people that I even play the game sometimes, and I know a lot of people who also don't engage with the community for the same reasons. Even if there are many people who play the game, if there is no community engagement, and the engagement that is there is not comfortable for newcomers, the game will never be mainstream. A lot of people know of osu, but the reputation that people have of osu is that its filled with pedos and gooners, with the addition that osu is a huge copyright nightmare. I believe that is the biggest reason as to why osu is and will never be mainstream, which it doesn't have to be tbh, but I just want the reputation to be much better than what it is at the very least. That way i can confidently say that I play osu, without getting called a fucking creepo
@@AndrewWhithamI think they meant a chiller rank so that new players wouldn't feel like they're worth nothing. pp stuff is very competitive and hard to get for a new player, maybe score leaderboard era was fun for this
dude what th are you guys talking about. people are simply too suck to play this game. look how many 1h play time users. it actually reaches more than 30 million people. and only a small amount of them stayed

its kinda true, i think we need stream, jump, and slider hold tutorial for new player.

I think the community should create tournaments specifically for beginners, which will make new players interested in trying this game
Most of the people who would attend those tournaments would be mainly some pretty decent players which would just make the newer players frustrated

One of the main problem is the copyrights most of the songs in the game is copyrighted the other problems in the game is easily fixable
Just play only featured artists and problem fixed
@@SuperGion915you just said "play only 10% of existing maps"
the problem is most people playing farm map more and no one featured artist map that farmable

TRUEE i literally stopped playing cause of the awful reading in the classic skin (and then 2 years later i came back and still play to this day XD)
its partly because of the questionable weeb stuffs in the game too

horrible selection of songs for anyone that isn't a weeb, and difficult mapping for more complicated songs(mania doesn't really have this issue)
