- LTX 2023 blew away my expectations. Definitely a great comeback after the pandemic break. Despite sometimes long lines, the enthusiasm and kindness shown by all those I met were amazing.
I didn't expect to meet so many people and have so many great conversations on the floor. I had to duck out a couple times just because the sheer energy was so high, lol.

lol just saw the title. Leaving it. I edited this in the airport in Denver waiting for my flight, so sorry about a couple weird audio bits, and the desynced audio at the end!
And right as I finished editing around 11 pm last night, the flight was cancelled! I'm stuck in Denver now (I mean, there are worse places to get stuck!), but I'll get home tonight! Hopefully!
That title is the reason I saw the video right away😂
lol was actually pretty catchy😂
lo key excellent title. mr beast would be proud.
Hope you have a safe rest of your trip back home Jeff!
So are you going to stop by the Micro Center in Denver? :D
Ah yes, timezones... A developer's greatest nemesis after inconsistent use of tabs and spaces in indentation.
I rewatch Tom Scott's video about it probably once a year.
If only the GPS manufacturers used the 'local timezone' fields in the ZDA message, he would not have this problem.
@@somefreshbread a timeless classic.
First one I can agree but as a c++ dev it's more like forgetting to free or double free. Time zones are definitely rough glad I don't work with time critical stuff now a days
Greatest nemesis? Try creating some form of input validation for names.
It was great to meet you, Jeff!
Ditto!
Quin in the comments section!!! :D :D :D
Wow, it's absolutely crazy to have seen LTT grow from the 'B channel' for NCIX Tech Tips to having their own flippin' convention full of so. much. stuff! The amount of creators I watch regularly that I've spotted in this video is kinda crazy.
Yeah, and there are probably 40-50 more creators I didn't even see! I completely missed ElectroBOOM and Louis Rossman this year; I wanted to get tased by ElectroBOOM's death stick thing, and I wanted to thank Louis for his right to repair work... but alas. Maybe next time!
seriously, going to LTX might be the only place I'd actually turn into a fanboy.
@@JeffGeerling Louis was there? Interesting...
@@brunoais Yeah, though I kept 'just missing' him! I did see him over at the LMG headquarters but he wound up in a different tour group, so I didn't get to shake hands.
@@JeffGeerling Nice! Thanks for sharing!
So fun hanging with JeffyG this weekend at LTX!
Haha you would say that!

Jeff powering through social anxiety just to give us a rundown of what happened. Dude, thank you so much! Your efforts are well appreciated ^-^
I wish for the case toss they had a sandpit. Would have been so visually satisfying. Like the long jump, but for metal boxes haha
Ha, yes! Though they'd need one more person per lane, to rake the sand making it nice and smooth!
@@JeffGeerling Perfect job for a volunteer! lol... I tried suggesting it to them on videos/tweets, but there's thousands of those! lol (and the logistics & cost of bringing in sand haha)
@@JeffGeerling Not necessarily. They could have a PC or small controller (like a raspberry or atmega) that control two motors that, at the push of a button, pull a v shaped piece of wood that simultaneously pulls the sand to the middle of the lane (using the inside of the v) and flattens it.
That is, as long as Red Shirt Jeff does not tinker with it :D
Thank you for all the videos :)
@@IanZainea1990 It's not the logistics of bringing the sand you need to worry about, it's the logistics of DEALING with the sand all con, and the cleanup at the end lol.
@@Nevir202 lol true
Thanks for sharing the experience Jeff for all the people around the world who could not attend.
And I notice you are still at the top of your t-shirt game. "Cosplaying as a SysAdmin" really cracked me up...
You, too, can have one at redshirtjeff.com ;)
Thanks!
As an introvert, how he heck do you manage to actually attend these?! Nice job on the coverage.
Crashing in hotel room at night!
As an introvert, the knowledge that literally everyone else there feels the same adds a bit of comfort
Also the fact that everyone has a common interest there makes it easier to talk to people
I appreciate you showing going to mass. Hopefully you and red shirt Jeff had a fun time! Can’t wait to see more on the studio build.
Red Shirt Jeff now has his very own screwdriver.
So sad that I couldn't come out this year! I was really looking forward to meeting you and a bunch of the other tech-tubers that I missed at OpenSauce... Hope you'll come back for LTX 2024!
I hope so too!
Thanks for your bravery fighting your anxiety to make this video and get out into the world Jeff. Top notch as ever.
It was great chatting with you Jeff, the home lab presentation was great.
Every LTX video I watch is making me more and more jealous... I have to make it out to '24, heh. Looks absolutely incredible.
It was honestly better than I expected! And I didn't even try out a few of the things that looked like they'd be really fun-I hope they can get some of those lines worked down a bit next year.
The thing I loved most was how instead of it being like a normal tech conference, where each booth is out there to sell something, even the more stodgy booths had a more interactive 'touch and feel' vibe. Though I didn't want to touch any of that ARRI stuff lest I break it lol
was there at the expo, unfortunately didn't get a chance to meet you in person but i did make an appearance in the vid 👀
Next year!
Glad you had a good time. This is good as inspiration to show that some short term stress, anxiety and discomfort can still ead to some great memories that you'll treasure for a lifetime.
All the voiceover was shot (and edited!) in the airport as I've been delayed quite a bit (hopefully I'll get home soon!). Sorry for a couple rough edits and the desync at the end, not sure what's up with that, but I'll just blame it on Air Canada haha
YVR's a quiet and exposed airport for doing your vlog! As a fellow introvert (that meet & greet segment made me shake), I salute you.
If ever you're there again a) Pop up to Whistler and I'll shout you a chai latte; b) The far end of the US departure hall is generally empty, and the domestic section also has lots of places that don't see any foot traffic 99% of the day,
Yes! I did find a spot that was relatively quiet, but there was someone sitting like 40 seats away, and triggered my social anxiety reflexes quite well haha.
I have heard a few people mention Whistler, I'll definitely plan an extra day next time around and head up there!
12:20 A wild "Hit me Dan" appears 😂 It's so amazing to see it on the WAN show set! great video Jeff
I was just amazed how the WAN show set was off in its own little space. I had thought all these years it was over by the build corner area! (Maybe it was originally? Not sure).
@@JeffGeerling It's moved around a lot through the years, But yes it used to be off to the side of the build corner.
@@Mellow_labs Ah, so I'm not just thinking silly things! Good to know.
Hi Jeff, loving the content, I think a video showcasing the technology behind in-flight Infotainment Systems would be fascinating. It could cover engineering, safety features, power efficiency, and aircraft integration. Not sure how you'd approach it or contact airlines, but keep up the good work!
Not a bad idea! I think it's consumer-facing enough I wouldn't have to worry about being told to redact anything I learn too!
It's a highly concentrated segment. Getting anything onto an aircraft program is complicated and costly. Most players are closer to aero electronics and avionics firms than consumer infotainment firms for that reason. For commercial aircraft, generally the airline will specify their system from a (very short) list of configurations offered and qualified by the aircraft manufacturer or cabin outfitter: IFE intersects with cabin equipment for obvious reasons - the seats often contain the entertainment screens and controls. There is more flexibility in general aviation and some of the 1%'s planes have bonkers AV and connectivity.
@@charlottelanvin7095 hence why a good video. commercial aircraft is more what i was meaning especially the A380 with its 500+ screens. It would be fascinating to explore the engineering, safety features, power efficiency, and aircraft integration behind them. Additionally, discussing how airlines manage the increasing connectivity would be great.
Good idea. The Swissair 111 fire was a major safety lesson.
@@collectorguy3919 oo just read about that
Nice to see you!! Sorry about the delayed comment! ;P
Haha, no problem there.
Thanks for sharing you went to mass on Sunday! It's a small thing, but great to hear about in passing.
Diet in French is pronounced "dee-ett". Thanks for enjoying Canada!
Sidebar, also thank you for showing yourself going to Mass. It means a lot to me as a nerd with faith to see other nerds exercising their faith.
Ah! I was wondering... I think I turned on the Spanish part of my brain when I was trying to pronounce anything French. My wife took French, I took Latin and Spanish lol.
@adamsavard535 I really appreciated the shoutout to Mass too!
@@JeffGeerling Way to shout out the Mass! I took know Spanish and Latin too, it would definably help with the French! Nerds in faith for the win! Appreciate you.
This was my FAVORITE video out of ALL the LTX videos!!!! THANK YOU JEFF!!! :D
Thanks for watching :)
Thanks for your coverage of the event, Jeff! Great for those of us who couldn't make it.
Definitely feel that social battery comment. The primary reason I've always found it difficult to stick it out at conventions.
Great coverage of the whole event! Thank you Jeff! Awesome work even with worn down vocal chords! ❤
Introvert energy relateable
It was funny identifying fellow introverts who also kept ducking out now and then :D
LUCKY THE DRAGON IS STILL ABOUT!!!!
Yeah, definitely a spot where there were many selfies.
This reminds me of the Tom Scott video about time. Forever thankful that I just import the time library and things just work
Great to see you there, Jeff! I was the photographer shooting in the Whale LAN and stage areas. I'll have some show pics up by the weekend - still on the trek home to the studio. 🙂
Oh awesome! I used to do event photography in St. Louis, I know how about 3/4 of the work happens *before and after* the shoot, so thank you SO much for your photography!
@@JeffGeerling I finally finished the processing. I'll email you the link. 🙂
I really like your presenting style and way you put the video together, it's calm and relaxing to watch, as a fellow introvert I feel your pain in making it. Your "airport voice" is soothing in a way 😊
So jealous that you went though, I've never left my home country before (UK) and I would so much love to visit LTX and meet you and all the other content creators - almost everyone you mentioned I watch almost every video and it would be so incredibly awesome to meet so many great minds in one place
I love this Jeff. Well done getting through everything with your health and anxiety the way it is. A serious effort rewarded :) I was glad I got to see some of your livestream before bed. Congratulations on all of the ITDRC support :)
Fun fact about the last shot in the video, that green roofed hotel (The Fairmont Vancouver) is actually the exterior shot of The Tipton hotel from Suite Life of Zack & Cody 😂
Glad you enjoyed the weekend!
Awesome footage Jeff, and great commentary.
What a blast. I am in New Zealand and really unable to travel, so seeing a great personal report like this made my day! Thanks Jeff. :)
What...?? I TOTALLY missed the retro area. Bummer. Also, this is incredible for an airport edit, lol. Glad I got to meet you in person and hope you get some rest after two days of flying.
Okay, so next time we need to have an informal creator retro console tournament, maybe Halo, Mario Kart, and some other game :)
@@JeffGeerling I’m in. We also need to figure out the introvert party bus situation.
First Open Sauce and then LTX! July was a busy month for the tech/creator side of RUclips!!
I really wish I could've made it to Opensauce, perhaps next year!
Thanks for sharing Jeff, super awesome to see so many RUclipsrs I follow all in one place!
Awesome video, please keep up the awesome job sir!
I didn't know any of those other RUclipsrs! But I know how cool it is meeting people you've only ever known online for the first time. Looks like it was an awesome event for you!
Glad you had fun in the city I call home, love your channel and hopefully you'll be back next year!
Looks like a fun weekend! Congrats on the Donations hope you reach your goal!
The reason you went to Texas first is because it's more efficient for airlines to operate through central hubs than to operate lines between every possible pair of airports. Think of Houston as the switch in your local network.
True, but there are a few other hubs more between STL and YVR, just bad luck I guess there weren't any other flights
I'm sorry, this isn't really on topic, but I just saw your comments on another platform amplifying the message shared by an ex-LMG employee, and *I just want to thank you* for continuing to be a force for good.
You're welcome! LTX 2023 was great, for the community. Anything that could harm either employees at LTT or the community at large needs to be called out and fixed! My hope is by next year, I'll be happy to attend another LTX after LMG has resolved their internal issues and reconciled with Madison, the community, and the rest of the tech youtube community.
@@JeffGeerlingmore stuff has dropped and I don’t think there can be another LTX in the future

what is the more stuff?
Really cool video. The more I see about LTX, the more I wish I could have gone. Seems like an amazing experience. I really love that creators are just walking the floor too being super approachable.
It's so fun, had a ton of interesting conversations about Pis, servers, Ansible, etc!
I love that you included personal comments along with the tech new! Great video!
Hey, welcome to my hood! Glad you liked Vancouver!
As someone who hopes to attend LTX one day, I want to thank you for this great coverage of LTX 2023. There is so much to see and do at LTX, I suspect I'd struggle to choose where to go or what to do. Btw, I don't think I would've picked you as an introvert (despite being one myself) so good job lol.
That looks like a real good time. I was happy to see you still made time for Mass. 🙏 I already respected you, but that just added another level for me. I wish I was able to attend. Glad you had a good time. FYI, I still think you do just fine in social situations. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Can't wait to see you in Nova Scotia later on this month! Looks like LTX was a lot of fun!
It's okay Jeff, I love telling dad jokes too, even though I'm not a father. I'm a faux pa.
I see what you did there!
Jeff, I'm glad your first trip to Vancouver was a great one. Seeing all of your video has made me home sick. I haven't been back there in just over 10 years, but I'm planning to go back to see family and friends soon.
Nice to see you there, we all love your work dearly!
Brilliant video. Lots of LTX and LMG behind the scenes stuff I have never seen before.
Can't wait until GMG (Geerling Media Group) opens their "red shirt" satellite site in the NL, so I can quickly hop over from Germany to get my social anxiety squealing when meeting Jeff in person one day! Awesome video Jeff 😃 (leave funny comment here)
What an excellent rundown!
I had no clue that they had retro consoles there! I feel like I had seen everything, but that was new to me 🤯
Glad I got to meet you there! Hopefully I'll see you next year as well 😁
Yeah, unfortunately a lot of people completely missed that section! Made me want to buy a few Xboxes and network em up at home!
Thanks for sharing, Jeff!
Thanks Jeff, I live in Australia and was adopted. My father's family live in Vancouver and Vancouver Island, love the scenery.
Im Dutch so this bike racks on the trolly busses (ts 6.36) really was a big surprise to me, we Dutch have more bikes then ppl. We have got a realy good bike infrastrusture, yet these bike racks on busses are next level. Never thought this would be the thing I would be commenting on about a LTX tour video LOL Great job showing us you LTX experience, tyvm Jeff👍
Vancouver's downtown area at least did have a number of bikes (though nowhere near what I remember visiting Amsterdam!); lots of electric-assist bikes nowadays, too. A little interesting sometimes having those whiz by!
Oh my God!!!!! I made it in the video! I'm the LED tie guy!!!!!! It was an honor to meet you I'm so glad I was able to have a quick conversation with you!
look like great fun , all these great guys under one roof
Great wrap up video. Looks like a fun time! Vancouver is so nice!
At least you got to fly direct from Houston. When I went up to film a video with LTT a few years back, I had to fly to San Francisco first and then up to Vancouver. So much time on a plane.
This looks like an incredible event and I would love to try to attend one of these years!
They need SMART LINES for the next LTX. So you won't waste time waiting in lines and can look around and get a notification while you wait for your turn.
Ooh. First year it'll probably be painful but that could help!

Thanks for coming to check out our backpack printer! Super great to meet you!
I loved it! There were four main highlights to the entire weekend, and seeing that thing was one of them :D
Someone else in the comments suggested the next upgrade, a gyroscopic mount, lol. Thanks for sharing your creativity and being so willing to talk to everyone about the project!
Glad you still made time for the most important thing on Sunday!
I'm from St. Louis too! That is awesome love your content!
Hey that's me at 4:57! It was so cool to meet you and everyone else there! That backpack has almost every surface in it covered with signatures! I got almost the entirety of ltt to sign it and most of the creators!
Glad you made it, thanks for saying hi!
Welcome to Canada, glad you had a good trip.
thats awesome, keep the title at it is lol :D
I love to see LTT from other perspective from time to time
Now a days I'm realising that the internet tech community is the online internet community who don't carry any type of hate and toxic fan's, followers i mean you can see on internet non tech youtubers fans talking rubbish about each other and here we are (geeks) supporting every geeks equally.
Tech RUclips ftw! We have differences but we can still be kind to each other!
