Fun fact: that scene was originally meant to be one of the missions in campaign. the creators decided to take it down because fighting in outer space seems funny and unrealistic. but that plot was moved to call of duty ghosts.

Cpl. Dunn's voice acting in this scene deserves a medal. Seriously felt the tension as if i was in the game experiencing it with them.
His voice actor is Barry Pepper. The guy who played as Private Jackson in the movie Saving Private Ryan.

chilling moment from MW2, one of my favorite moments in the whole series!
whiskey hotel especially when the flares go up on buildings around you giving that heroic teamwork vibe
I love the nuke scene more like watching it happen in a helicopter close to it but then also in mw3 from a distance
I have to disagree. This is by far the most unrealistic scene in the entire trilogy, which takes you out of the immersion, due to multiple things:
Firstly, the ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) only takes about 20 seconds to fly from Russia to the US, during which time the solid rocket motors on it keep firing until impact. Real ICBM's take about 30 minutes to reach their target, of which the engines only fire for around 4 minutes (boost phase). After these four minutes the warhead has been put on a ballistic trajectory leading to it's target, separates from the upper stage of the and coasts through space for about 20 minutes without accelerating (post boost phase or coast). Following the coast phase the warhead reenters the atmosphere, which takes around 40 more seconds. Afterwards the warhead detonates.
(Please note that this is not an entirely accurate description of what happens during an ICBM launch. For example i left out any sort of post boost control system to make it easier to understand.) (this is a common misconception in games and movies)
Secondly there is the fact that the ISS is majorly affected by the nuclear explosion. There is absolutely no reason for the station to explode, since the nuclear explosion happened relatively far away from the station (Due to the orbit of the ISS the theoretical minimum distance between the ISS and the ground is 400km. If we subtract the height of an airblast needed to cause an emp using a nuclear explosion, we are still over 350 km away from the station.) Additionally there is the fact that there is a vacuum between the nuke and the station, making a shock wave impossible. However there would be significant damage to the electrical and electronic systems of the station due to the EMP. Due to the robustness of the station the crew would probably still be able to get home.
Then there are minor things wrong with the scene. The ISS, which looks fairly different to the real one or the plans for the final one in 2009, is a collaboration between the US and Russia(and a lot of other countries). Due to the war between the two, the station would probably be unmanned at that time. And I doubt that the most efficient way for NORAD to detect and confirm the launch of an ICBM would be to ask an astronaut(it would probably take NORAD about 20 minutes to find the right phone number to call ISS mission control), who just happens to be on a spacewalk at that time, to point his helmet cam at the missile, which has a very low quality live feed. And even if the quality of the life feed would be higher, you would still not be able see the warhead in the coast phase and need super high quality, high zoom camera to see the missile in it's boost phase (with optimal conditions). The military has infrared and radar satellites to detect an ICBM launch almost instantaneously and approximate it's impact point after the boost phase. The nuclear explosion also looks way too big.
Wow this is was supposed to only be around 3 sentences, but kinda exploded as i found more and more stuff to nitpick. To be clear, i don't hate the game. I just wanted to point out the ridiculousness of this scene.

And it’s not even a plot point
Apparently it was supposed to help the U.S. push Russia out.

Someone else notices that this scene is chilling, just imagine that you are in space and you turn to the horizon and you see an EMP knowing that your life is over and that you are in a bad time in a bad time knowing that your body will be lost in the dark cosmos And that the government will never talk about how you died is totally terrifying to have to fire you like that.

@@sadflix8754 bruh... You really just told me you don't understand how anything works without telling me
Why do people have such an obsession with the idea of things falling into the sun? Not even NASA's most advanced rockets can even reach the sun.
Also, space is really big. There are only 8 planets, with a huge amount of space in between them. Even objects that cross the orbit of planets, such as the car SpaceX launched into space, are incredibly unlikely to have a very close encounter with them, let alone falling into them.
That's because space is really, really big, and the sun's gravity dominates everywhere except the immediate surroundings of planets, which are *very* far apart.
Man that guy could never get a break from that EMP.
best campaign in any cod
Bops 1 and 2 👀
@@ianfudo5040 not two
ian fudo black ops imo is the most overrated cod series
Toxic Hawk no it isn’t lol. Black Ops 1 is the greatest Call Of Duty
I debate this a good bit in my head. The best Cod is either black ops or MW2. on one hand, black ops had probably the best story in the franchise. The reveal of Reznov not being real throughout almost the entire game, the numbers, the ambiguous ending if you actually killed jfk or not, and had some pretty great missions. The story wasn't just your typical "bad guys and good guys killing each other". It actually had a really compelling story. But MW2 had some fantastic missions and some great scenes like this one, you running on the rooftops and jumping to the ladder on the helicopter, escaping the gulag, escaping the snow base, roach and ghost dying, and of course killing Shepard. But I'm a story kind of person, so I tend to lean towards black ops being better.
This is a powerful scene, in that it takes you out of the good guys versus bad guys mindset for a brief moment. Even when the goals are arguably noble, some very horrible decisions are made to reach them. We can say that the ends justified the means, but then how different are we from Shepherd?
Bad and the worst guy. Makarov is the worst but Price is a baddie for killing all those astronauts on ISS and us troop in washington dc
@@bolobalaman"Victory cannot be achieved without sacrifice"

Sometimes, to reach the impossible, sacrifices have to be made. In Price's eyes, it was either sacrifice a lot of their allies lives or let the possibility of a nuclear war that would resound for centuries occur

In 2009 I was only in 6th grade. When i was playing This mission and it affected me seeing the astronaut I was playing as in first person dying like that..in 2020 I am now 22 and reliving that moment as I’m watching it now as a grown man, knowing it’s only a game but, (what if) this was an actual occurrence. Picturing myself being in his position. Thoughts racing in my head with all the possibilities that would happen to me...that I will never see my family again..that I will never get out of this...I’m going to die..
this is the end.
Have a feeling a shockwave like that wouldn't propagate through the vacuum of space due the the lack of a medium, so I don't think the ISS would've been ripped apart like that
@@luciachlys5041 i remember watching a video that says that a nuke in space would actually be a thousand times WORSE because of the reason you said it wouldnt work, it was something about the atmosphere and air pressure reducing the impact and area being affected, and due to space not having any of that it would just go on for MUCH much longer and get way further, im not sure what it is though i'd have to find it again

Ikr? It was so chilling on the original because of how quiet everything was. It was just the music and the heartbeat raising up.
They really did an amazing job on remastering mw2. I like that theyve added a bunch of new small details, like that astronaut panicking after detonation
Poor astronaut. Safest guy in the war still dies. :(
MW2 made a cool scene, but the explosion would be too far for an EMP or even a shock wave to reach the station, comparing the ISS in that scene compared to actual footage of the ISS, that's very unrealistic, but the Russian's are at war with America, so there's a good chance the station was changed in a very big way.
Even though the ISS is in low orbit, there's essentially very little/no friction plus electromagnetic radiation can travel at high speeds in space as it doesn't require an atmosphere like sound does so the EMP waves can travel further. So it is kinda realistic. In real life, the US and Russia both detonated nuclear warheads in space which resulted in the destruction of satellites and fried electronics here on Earth.
TLDR, it is realistic as it has happened in real life before.
Chicken Fingers there would never be a shock wave destroying the station like that lmfao
Dude..there is no shock wave in space
@@HeIIfire2073 I think it’s less about the EMP and more about the shockwave as there’s no atmosphere the explosive radius is much more limited
There's no shockwave in space. A wave needs a medium to be carried through. On Earth that's air usually. The ISS however is in the "thermosphere". At that point the pressure of air is so low that while it's not *technically* a vacuum, it basically acts as one and waves cannot really propagate "within" it.
That being said the EMP *would* actually propagate and hit the ISS since electromagnetic pulses are weird and propagate through something called the "electromagnetic field".
Still beautiful to this day.
It's enough to make a grown man unload a few tears they saved for Loose Ends.

not many things i think the remastered versions did better (mainly cause i like the nostalgia), but the scene of the nuke going off from space is absolutely terrifying, and i think that’s because of the sharp and hurried breathing
"looks like we aren't making it home baker.." touched my heart
3:10 sgt Foley a badass
The scary part about this is that the astronaut probably SURVIVED getting hit by one of the panels of the ISS. Most likely he suffocated to death after floating in orbit of the earth for days before running out of oxygen. Nuclear war truly is the most terrifying things I can think of, and this game nails that fear perfectly.
All I can imagine is he is simply floating in space, waiting for the inevitability that he runs out of oxygen, no way anyone can save him. It’s a slow, painful death, and a very scary way to die too.
Wait, it just hit me. Why the hell is there a shockwave at this kind of altitude? Shockwave only propagates through atmosphere, and ISS is orbiting outside of it. The EMP would still reach it, for sure, but it wouldn't blow it to sherds
That scene is still beautiful and terrifying anyways
Electromagnetic waves don't need atmosphere. As such, they can carry small amounts of particles at high speed through the vacuum of space. Look up "solar wind."

This just goes to show how out of tune Activision is with its community, this shows that the fans would love an ultimate Call of Duty type of game. Honestly, we've recently started playing Call of Duty Mobile and it was fun but also addicting. The fact that it was a Call of Duty with maps and weapons from across all Call of Duty's, I honestly think its the way they should go especially since they're so negligent towards Multiplayer now in favour of Warzone. At least we have SM2 on the way which will be great fun and bring back all those memories on great Call of Duty's such as Modern Warfare 2 etc
