I have enjoyed watching your videos. I’m going through and catching up! So kind of you to share your life. I especially love any cleaning or cooking videos. I grew up Mennonite and we definitely have the same emphasis on cleaning, good food, gardening and of course community. ❤ God Bless you!
Round rug…if you have to reach your hook to the next hole, put two stitches in that hole you then won’t get wavy or end up with a hat. I’ve made rugs for years. Yours looks great. Keep on practicing. @Gisellewaldner

Your sourdough starter takes the place of yeast in the bagel. Sour dough starter will have wild yeast from the air in it. This is why sourdough tastes different based on its location.
I'm impressed at your patience with the rug - I would have been crying in frustration. But that's why you end up with a beautiful finished product and I don't! Thanks for another great video, Giselle! It's always fun to see the many things going on in your life. God bless your Easter celebration - He is risen!
Giselle, your vlogs impart such warmth of personality. Halfway through watching I become aware that I have a grin on my face from ear to ear. You are such a blessing from above.
The base of the fronds are in the dark compared to the other end. Try putting the whole thing down on the level of the green leaves. It won't help the part already there, but new growth should be ok.
I’m glad you had a beautiful Easter with your family. I wanted to encourage you to keep sharing what you are reading both religious and secular. But I buy EVERY religious book I see you with and I love them.
I LOVE how your Colony moves so beautifully smooth between Christmas into the Easter seasons! Your perseverance in making your rug is admirable. It will give you an amazing finished product! This is how it's done right. Thank you for this inspirational video!
Ferns need a ridiculous amount of water. Try a self watering pot and a little fertilizer. If you feel like it's staying wet enough, check for fungal gnats by putting double sided tape on a small stick or wood dowel. A plastic fork with double sided tape would also work. Wait 24 hours. If you see even one gnat, change out your dirt for fresh dirt and treat the top or the soil with neem spray or any kind of gnat spray you're able to get.
Your so talented. I haven't crocheted a rug yet. I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials. I made a bag once with a round bottom. You have to keep increasing each round. I never tried sushi. I'm allergic to shrimp.

Giselle, I live in Boulder, Colorado where it is very dry. I have tried to grow ferns and I have found they need a lot of misting and/or things to keep the air around them moist. I have tried a humdifier next to the plant. That can work. I've tried keeping a spray bottle of water nearby and spraying the fern well at least once a day. My grandmother kept her plants on a shelf my grandfather made for her that was made of some light weight metal so that the plants could sit on a bed of gravel that was always moist. That kept the air around the plants moist. It isn't just the soil. They need moisture AROUND them. Good luck! I kept several ferms growing for awhile, including a stag's head fern mounted on a board on the wall. But I could never keep them as long as some of my other plants. (I can keep geraniums for years, jade plants, mother-in-law's tongue (sorry, I don't know any other name.) But ferns, at most, I can keep tor a year or two. Good luck with your fern. yhour friend Dhyan in Boulder
For the fern, I say hang it lower so that the base of the plant will get more sunlight. In my garden, the fern is a kind of weed and boy, it kept coming back after a few rain fall.
Ferns are thirsty. Try to water your fern so that the ground is wet. But no water in the bottom of the container. Try to water down the sides and not in the heart of the plant. They dont like direct sun. Good luck!
I wish your grandmother a very happy birthday 🎂 may she have many more blessed years to come 😊. Can’t wait to see your rug when it’s finished, beautiful choir singing ❤🙏. Happy Easter Giselle!
Is that a Rabbit's Foot fern (Davallia)? The fuzzy rhizome leads me to wonder if it is. Here's what I remember: Their fronds are kinda "leggy" anyway. It's an epiphyte and they don't mind if the soil gets a little drier. Just enough to keep the soil mixture moist but allow the top to dry out between watering especially during the winter dormancy. Now regarding light and humidity. The less light the slower, more spindly they grow, so consider a different position like another commenter mentioned but not in direct light. Your winters get pretty dry don't they? Do you mist the fern? One last thing, don't cut off or bury the furry rhizomes. They're important for plant happiness. p.s. Really like the rug you're making.
Sister Giselle your wonderful and your people are wonderful. You've inspired me to wear my hair up now. I haven't gotten around to a head covering yet. I have found it so freeing because no mans lookin longingly at my long locks. I'm dying more to self. Carrying the cross of self denial. Did you know that the head covering actually looks like you have black hair. I am watching again for the second time. My husband likes listening to you talk. It's your accent I guess. We are observing Jesus in the Passover. I hope you and your people have a blessed and peaceful Easter. Shalom Aleichem Mishpocah.
It is Palm Sunday today and our church service was full. My daughter braided our palms which I keep until next year when we get fresh ones. Happy Easter to you and everyone in your Colony Giselle. Wishing you God’s Blessings 🪺🌷🐇
So, basically, for the rugs you first chain several yards of yarn and then you crochet that chain into either a flat circle or an oval? That seems pretty easy to figure out now that I have an idea how it is done. Do they start with a magic circle for the round ones? Also, for flat circles, the key is to skip an increase round every so often so that it stays flat. If you increase with every round, it will buckle like that. I usually start skipping an increase round here and there once I reach about six inches for a project that is being worked in the round.
Yes basically or you can also make a hexagon or a square. I don't know how the round one was started my mom did that for me, but I can ask her for you.
@@gisellewaldner9406 thank you so much for replying! I can see this being a great way to use up my big bin of yarn that is leftover from other projects. I can just chain it mindlessly while relaxing in the evenings, and then can make a rug once I get enough chained.
Ferns do not like to dry out (even for a few hours) so keep them well watered. They prefer to be watered from the bottom just like African violets do .They don't like full sun - a north window is great. If you have them in other windows, make sure the light is filtered (sheer curtains) because strong sunlight is too much for them. Also - mist frequently if not daily.
I’m actually into black coffee unless I’m making a cappuccino. I suppose sushi wouldn’t be too bad if there is no fish in it. Lol on the rug. Are you using a row of stitches? That doesn’t look like plain yarn. I love the saying about putting my trust in you. And not be shaken. The last part really hits the heart of me. Possibly lack of light on your fern. Also misting your fern is a good idea. Not direct light though. I also like to ware my plants once in a while with black coffee. I’ve only used caffeinated coffee. They really like it. Thank you for the video and Happy Birthday a bit late to your Grandma. Hi Priscilla! 💕
the yarn is actually about 5 different types of yarn crochet together to then be able to make the rug. thank you for the tips about the fern, I have lost two others before this one and don't want to lose another.
Not sure about your fern. Mine has never done that. I just keep the top of the soil moist, not soaking wet. Also use a spray bottle to mist the leaves. I'm guessing it may need a little more sunshine??? But not sure. You could try trimming the fronds back to the soil and try to encourage new fronds to grow?
I enjoy viewing your previous/past VLOGS. Special activities and life occurrences that bring knowledge and love for community. Be and stay well--enjoy the cold while it lasts--I know you prefer chilly weather. Smiles.
Your rug is coming along nicely! I think that is a rabbit foot fern and as they get older, they op like they. In u opinion anyway. I’m not an expert. Id think sone new growth wi come out too in summer. The sushi looked so good! When I get it at restaurant there’s very little filling and I see you were generous with filings. Yum! Bagels also! I really enjoy the singing and praise. Your videos give me peace . They also confirm how daily ice tasks are important. Thank uou. Oh! I also rush my hair once a day. Lol I’m not much on poking in the mirror and always touching up.
Hi and Easter blessings. Have you thought of cutting back your fern, yes each stem to about 3 inches above the soil? New fronds will come but bye bye to the "stringy" ones, to be used in vase decorations, maybe? It is a perfect season for new starts. Also, my mom kept telling me I crocheted too tightly. That might be causing any bending you may be experiencing in your beautiful rug. Crochet just a tad loser, not much, but it gives the yarn room to lay down. Thank you for loving life so much. Love is infectious.
Thank you for the tips, I was looking at my fern today and was thinking that maybe I should just chop it, but then when I go for the scissors I can't quite do it 🤭
Really love your channel! Can I ask a question, when young women first start doing kitchen duty is that when they learn how to cook and all the recipes could you talk about your experience of when you first started working in the kitchen?
thank you, we are happy to have you with us. yes young women start cooking at the age of 17 and that is when we learn all our skills. I want the next Q&A to be about the kitchen and that would be a lovely place to talk about my experience, thank you for the idea.
Do you make the chains & then crochet the rug with the chains. Very interesting! Its looking beautiful. Will look fwd to a tutorial sometime when you are ready!
Enjoy seeing you make bagels. My mom and I used to make them for my dad lots before he passed. I haven't made them since. The chewiness is dependent upon how long you boil them, we would boil less than a minute.
Ferns are a finicky bunch aren't they. They like it wet, but not dripping wet, high humidity & bright indirect light. The best luck I've had is to hang ferns is my bathroom where it got humidity & had a north facing window. If that isn't an option try getting a pie pan or a plant saucer, put fine gravel in it :& fill with water, set the plant on it, increases humidity but bei sure not to get the roots wet. They don't like wet feet. Also you could try misting it with water from a spray bottle. Hope this helps. Have at good Easter & bless you & yours.
☀️The details on your blouses are so nice.

Happy Birthday to your Grandmother!! Hav e a wonderful week!
Thank you and to you too ❤️
I've never grown a fernet, but I've never seen one do that either! Lol. Looking forward to seeing what the other plant parents have to say.
Do you make the chains & then crochet the rug with the chains. Very interesting! Its looking beautiful. Will look fwd to a tutorial sometime when you are ready!
I think that is what she is doing 🙂 then crocheting in the round. Interesting!
Yes 😊
Happy Easter and many blessings to you Giselle and all your loved ones.💖💐.
Thank you and to you too ❤
Enjoy seeing you make bagels. My mom and I used to make them for my dad lots before he passed. I haven't made them since. The chewiness is dependent upon how long you boil them, we would boil less than a minute.
The recipe told me 1 minute per side and although I love the chewy part after a day they were a bit tough 🤭
Oh I agree finicky and fussy that they are 😊
Beautiful decorations ! Thank you for another uplifting vlog❤
My pleasure 😊
