Does taking a year break after final year, before internship and going for 12 months of electives in general surgery help boost our CV enough to match into categorical general surgery? Is that better than going for a post doctoral research fellowship? Thanks!
Great. Very inspiring video. I have been told many times that it is impossible for an IMG to match into surgical specialties in the US. I am a trainee surgeon in my home country who is dreaming of training in the US. How can I obtain a research position in the US from here which I can then use on my way to US General Surgery residency?. Thank you.
Great video, As NEXT is implemented in India by NMC where NEXT 2 must be taken after 1 year of internship . So, will it be possible to take break in internship to do electives?
After NEXT is implemented, will it be possible to take breaks during internship and go for electives, as we will need to write NEXT 2 after 1 year of starting internship ?
thank u v.much for ur valuable experience sharing. one question,...i am pediatric surgeon in my country,so can i apply for both pediatrics and general surgery?tnx .
@@lasa18you will have to try your absolute best on the STEPS, crush STEP 2, plenty of research and apply very broadly. Like I said it’s possible but it’s an uphill battle especially if you come from the Caribbean. But nothing is impossible, pour your heart into it. I’m vouching for you.

US research experience vs research publications from those experiences...how much does it affect having research experience but struck at publication stage..
Obviously publications in high impact journals are very valuable. Research experience is important but if you have researched for say 1 year then it is expected you will publish
@@narainsreekanth6593 You can use FRIEDA thats a good source for program search. we did a video on that under different context ruclips.net/video/mls0WUvaw8U/видео.html
It’s the honesty for me. Very sincere & humble young physician.
Glad you liked it
Dr Kavin was my senior during general surgery residency at KEM Hospital, Mumbai. A brilliant surgeon and an amazing human being.
Thank you very much, such a long journey congratulations
Our pleasure!
Thank you very very very much for responding to our opinions and making a video on it 🤩🤩🤩

If you have high scores then match in categorical may be possible without prelim
Congratulations! Well deserved :)
Great video,
May I know in which year did you complete MBBS?
Great video,
As mentioned in requirements should research be done in USA or can have research experience in home country?
Great.

A big thank you, sir!

we will need to see what individual colleges say
Yeah same doubt.
Did you get any solution?
Please let me know.
@@usmlesarthi2024 it depends on college or NMC?

How many total publications he was having before matching.

Yes
Is it possible to score high for usmle step by only doing questions from qbanks, that being uworld and Rx. Excluding first aid and video series?
Possible but depends on how strong the basics are.
It’s near impossible now. But with strong will and unbeatable work ethic, nothing is impossible.
GS is even harder now?
For MD/DO it’s attainable. For IMG near impossible. The landscape have changed tremendously in the past 30 years.

Hi doc, if I may ask.
Will repeating a year in medical school affect the matching for residency in general surgery?
Thanks in advance doc.
Definitely will make it harder but still doable.
@@usmlesarthi2024 thanks doc 🙂
Does UK research experience counts or helps?
Sir plz answer this qn
If someone can't afford to do electives can usmle step scores alone help to match into general surgery residency as an img?
you will need to do research and have good scores
Step1 255. Step2ck 265. Home country general surgery residency. I want to pursue I6 CTVS residency. Can you guide me?
Also I was planning on a paid research position with a program director. But somehow fell through. I seem lost now. Can you help me out?
Keep trying for research. Paid or unpaid it will be useful.
Sir do gap year between 12th grade and med school matters while matching hope u reply
Could you please give an update about it now? Did you get into an I6 CTVS?
What is the mean no. Of abstracts presentation and publication he had before match
He had home country residency from AIIMS, then 2 years research in the US. Quite extensive publications

Quick question, what kind of research is required for taking up a Surgical Residency?
Typically US research at a university (surgery program)
