A great idea for unique, personal artwork is an antique map! It could show the town you are living in now, where you grew up, where your ancestry is from, where you met your spouse, etc. not only do they look sophisticated but guests love looking at them and you can tell them about the meaning behind it.

Loved these! And YES to preventive maintenance. It can be boring and not very fun taking care of these things, but it’s so important and worth it in the long run. I’ve learned the hard way in the past how things can pile up and become much more expensive. This is always my tip for new homeowners that ask for advice!

I’m late to the party but… I agree with glassware, dinnerware, we use cloth napkins all the time, even when our children were small, down graded ones for breakfast and lunch, nicer ones for daily dinners, company ones and even linen cocktail napkins. Out door spaces: We extended our patio and made a walled courtyard with a gate so our dogs could come out with us. We eat, read, entertain and on nice days my husband will work on the patio. The price made me sick but the use has more than made up for it. We even wish we’d made it bigger.

I love your space. I always feel like I’m not “minimal” enough because all of my plants and decor that I have out because I decided NOT having a storage closet (I used to have a storage filled with boxes of stuff) now I don’t and everything I own is out on display so i can enjoy it. So it appears I have a lot but If you start opening cupboards, closets, pantry and drawers there is very little. 💕

I'm the same! Got rid of storage units and everything I own is on display. But my drawers/cabinets are very minimal. Love this.

Completely agree about the house cleaners! It's such a psychological boost, and they're professionals; they will be able to do it faster than you, leaving you more time, and honestly - unless you actually enjoy cleaning - It's just completely worth it to pay someone to do it.

Hi Elin. Yes on the cleaners! I am a public school teacher, but I have always had a professional come in every 2 weeks. It changes your life!

Although I agree in most of your points, I absolutely disagree with rug one. Rugs can be so time consuming that it's not worth it. My mother had a huge problem with rugs - she likes them, but can't clean them, so we made it a rule, that she can't have any rug that cannot be washed in our washing mashine. They are still a pain in the back, but a bit more managable. - When you plan on bying a rug you should consider this before your purchase. Personally I don't own any rugs.

Rugs were the bane of my existence too, especially when you live in the countryside. They look cosy but are dirty in two seconds. My time is too important to me to be patch cleaning rugs every other day

Agreed especially if you have animals. As much as I love rugs and have always been into rugs, I finally had to let them go a few years ago. I finally brought one in the living room. Keeps some warmth in there in the winter time and it is washable and the animals love it when it's out and I love it when it's time to wash 😂 I also have washable small rugs in my shower and bathroom area that's it

I live in a colder climate and can't imagine a home without rugs! However, we do not have a rug in every single space. The living room and the great hallway have rugs, but not the kitchen for example. We have cats, but I don't mind extra vacuuming etc. We love our furry friends! I guess you just have to find what works for you when creating an enjoyable home. Have a wonderful rest of your day!

@@karolinasundkvist5762agreed. Rugs keep the floors warm in the winter. As much time to vacuum rug as floor. Send out for cleaning every few years. No big deal

Great list, Elin. We actually have the dining table my maternal grandmas parents ordered from the local carpenter when my grandma was a small child. I love to have that piece of history in our home. We do have home cleaners at the moment but I find it frustrating because they always miss some details. I’m going to hire my 15 year old daughter to do the cleaning instead, she’s excited.

Interesting ideas! One thing - I live by myself and there’s no way I could get a mattress like that up 3 flights of stairs to my apt. I need to have a delivery where they set it up for me and take out and dispose of the old one. Otherwise it looks like a great mattress - I just couldn’t do it.
