J-20 is built ground up as 5th generation aircraft with internal weapon bays though canrad wings may make it less stealthy than f-22 or f-35, to assume that 4.5 generation rafale with all its external weapon stores, external fuel tanks , fuel probes etc would be more stealthier than j-20 is based on erroneous reasoning and facts probably done with vested interest to promote one contender.
To assume that Chinese cannot or will not improve the 5th generation characteristics including stealth features of j-20 would be underestimating an known opponent with nearly 4 times the economic power of india.and also the world's largest industrial producer with world's nearly 30% industrial production.and also USA may have 4 times more defence budget than china but USA also has large number of oversea bases where a disproportionate portion of USA defence budgets goes into the maintaining of these oversea bases.

@@vamsi2070k when in peace time airforces fly their jets with Luneburg lenses in order to hide their real stealth signature , Luneburg lenses increases the radar signature of a fighter jet in order to make it easy to spot and to avoid any accidents while flying in friendly airspace. Indian su30 were able to spot j20 so easily because chinese wanted to make sure Indians see j20

J20 on the other hand is a 5th gen stealth aircraft having internal weapon bay with much lesser rcs than rafale and also radar with 1800 drms soon 2200. Rafale stands no chance in bvr conflict talking about experience I am sure you know in which countries rafale was deployed countries also I would recommend you to read some articles of usaf commander's when f35 faced j20 in South China sea

The simple fact that rafale has seen combat just supercedes everything. Let me explain. When these platforms go into battle they are not just destroying targets for a particular mission. They are gathering electronic, ir and even visual signatures via various sensors like radars, pods etc. This becomes the part of a core threat library which later is used to train ml models to detect enemy assets in a much more accurate way. This is the reason a b2 spirit is never flown near Russia cause they don't want any signature being collected by the Russians

If the original MMRCA process had been allowed to complete, we would have had 126 Rafales by now, out of which 108 would have been made in India (instead of 36 imported Rafales). As far as the "India Specific Enhancements" are concerned, if Dassult Aviation agreed to include those in an order for 36 aircraft, why wold they have said "no" in case of a 126 aircraft deal?

I don't think so the reason for f22 raptor not being produced so much isn't that the tech was difficult to maintain but that us didn't need that much numbers at that time.

Even if J20 is not as stealthy as F22, in BVR warfare against India, the J20 is going to dominate the skies.
India has to acquire 100+ F35B which can operate from anywhere and will pose a significant deterrence against Chinese 5th generation advantage.
This, coupled with S500 type systems can checkmate Chinese air superiority.
F35B can also be operated from aircraft carriers and LPDs.
Technology from F35B can give a major boost to AMCA.
Turkish participation in JSF led to its fast development of indigenous 5th generation fighter program.
We too need a hedge against the AMCA program which will fructify only post 2035.

Tejas has Israeli radar and China has been after Israeli radar technology got some time. Information about Chinese Radar performance is hard to come by. If Tejas has better Radar, it can play its interceptor role well against J20.

It is not that the Politicians and the MOD are not aware of this issues but the willingness to make strong and smart decision. This Defense culture has to change because we are now fighting a Communist country (PLA) and Respective people will have to take decisions according to the situation, Be it J-20A, B or anything else.
Now we need to focus on BVR fight and need to make all our fighter aircraft capable of BVR and if our fighter aircraft are capable of BVR and dogfight then it will be a great achievement.

If Pak knowing only 18 rafales will ever be used against them as another squadron is for China , they still inducted 2 Squadrons of J 10c even if it meant to buy them on loan . We should learn from this and finalize MRFA by these year so we can counter China after 5 years .
India spent a lot of time and money on the Su 57 and left the programme because it wasn't stealthy enough. The Su 57 is arguably better shaped for stealth than the J20. US estimates put the J20 frontal Radar Cross Section at 0.2 square meters. As a comparison, Tejas Mk1A has a frontal RCS of 0.3 square meters due to its use of composite radar absorbing structure for 92% of its surface areas, and radar absorbing coatings on the intakes and the rest of its surface. With some air to air missiles and external fuel tanks, that will increase to 0.5 square meters, compared to F16 and Gripen at 1.5 square meters. Therefore J20 isn't true stealth like the F35 which has a RCS of 0.02 square meters, but a low RCS aircraft in a similar category to Su 35 or a clean Tejas.
The Chinese definition of stealth is different from everyone elses definition of stealth that is all, similar to what the Russians call stealth, although the Russians do not lie about it.
Even after all of this - an IAF Rafale would detect a PLAAF J20 before the later can detect the former.

Let's say a war happens between two countries A and B.
Now, A has say 500 Aircraft and B has only 20 Aircraft.
But B understands the asymmetry disadvantage and has done the following :
1. They have wide Radar/Sensor coverage and have ensured that their situational awareness and alertness is top notch.
2. They have 10,000 SAM systems which are extremely mobile and spread across the border.
3. Their 20 Aircraft are the best and complementef by Missiles/Drones which can deep strike Enemy A's territories from standoff ranges.
With this approach country B has ensured that their defensive posture is sufficient (via sensors, AI and Manual systems as well as AD systems) to neutralize the 500 Aircraft of Country A. While they can do stealth and deep strikes with their drones, missiles and 20 superior aircraft.
Immediate possible counter to J-20 doesn't exists right now with India. In the mid term 126 Rafale F4 under MRFA and later Tejas Mk2 can be a good counter. In the long term AMCA will match and maybe exceed J-20's capabilities.

India's AMCA will take atleast 10 years from now, and AMCA mk1 will not even be a full 5th gen fighter. AMCA mk2 will take atleast 15 years, that is around 2040, by that time, USA, Europe and China will have moved far far ahead of us. We need to look at a 6th gen platform from now so that it can be ready in the next 15-20 years

If J20 is that much capable then why they use Su-35 or J-15 as their main fighter in any confrontation against taiwan or japan? AMCA and tejas mk2 is the only answer to any foreign enemy.
