13:51, having seen this OVA myself I agree with Sage on this part. Yes helping orphans is a noble cause and all that..... But when you opt to care for them and abandon your own child to basically help a bunch of strangers and never come back to see him for a decade, even for a damn day, yeah you guys can pretty much take your half assed apologies and go straight to hell, this story probably would have been better if Scrooge(Santa) didn't forgive parents and exploded at them when they call him or he learns the truth. He shouldn't forgive them and they don't deserve forgiveness, they're being selfish and his anger is a hundred percent justified.

Fors Clavigera Well interesting piece of trivia his parents in the manga were just on a holiday for their Anniversary and end up coming back to see him before the day ends and nothing indicates that they aren't there for the rest of the year. So yeah, the anime made his parents bigger douchebags than the manga.
The Fan Without a Face Wait, so they weren't even gone for the whole day? And they were there for his birthday the day before? But that makes him so distraught that he swears off Christmas forever? And I thought the characters of _Love Hina_ were bad at picking hills to die on! (Although his parents really should have found a way to go "Mommy and Daddy just need some alone time on Christmas morning sweetie" to him at some point.)
Well apparently they do this sort of thing every year and the whole parents appearing was due to some Santa magic. Still you have to admit having your parents never be there for your birthday, have it be overcome by Christmas and being named Santa, thus getting made fun of constantly for it, would probably make someone hate the holiday.
How are they not able to send him to live with them in ten years? how about they move the poor kids to japan with em? they obviously have the money to take care of a group of kids and pay for their son's needs. So how come they couldn't just.... bring their family together?

You should do the Pokemon christmas special some time, where Black Jinx's work for Santa and Ash rides to the north pole on the back of a magic talking Lapras. That shit be slightly insane
7:37, can be substituted for each other occasionally in Japanese. The spelling of Samba in Katakana actually uses the Katakana for N so it's spelt Sanba. So it's correct, just the joke trips in translation.
5:46, agree wholeheartedly. Asking someone WTF's wrong with them when they're miserable and that they should be happy like everyone else is not going to help anyone. It's just going to make that person even more miserable because they've just had guilt and insecurity added to whatever's bothering them. If you want to cheer someone up, great, but that's not the way to do it!
You know what the sad part is? I actually do like the idea of a Santa academy and a girl training to be the next Santa Claus. Such a shame the Love Hina guy took a genuinely interesting idea and squandered it.
my heart skipped a beat when you announced that you are taking a visit to the Tendo Dojo to celebrate Santa Day with a big ol' helping of anything goes martial arts. If its at all possible to have Suave and Happosai exchange gifts I beg of you to do so.
but Ken Akamastu really has a good series right now called UQ Holders! and its a sequel too Negima, and trust me when i say he has really improved on his writing. and is completely different from his early works.
his post-Love Hina stuff is rad. Mahou Sensei Negima and UQ Holder are both really good fusions of shounen battle/action and romcom (though UQ is much more of the former with some fanservice thrown in occasionally) ...as a diehard Negima fan though his old stuff makes me cringe.
the curse of Akamatsu: having your most mediocre stuff get adapted, or your best stuff turned into mediocre adaptations, or just the good shit not getting adapted at all. Fingers crossed UQH's anime breaks the curse.
Oh yeah, the OVAs that were direct manga adaptations were good, if short, and the SHAFT series was alright. Kinda a guilty pleasure crack fanfiction. It's just sad that with all the adaptations of Negima we never got a faithful adaptation of the tournament or magic world arcs.
You do know Santa Claus is short for Saint Nicholas, a Catholic bishop famous for punching heretics and putting money in the shoes of poor people while they slept, right?
EyeOfEld It could also be said that part of the Santa origin story is derived from the wild hunt and Odin. Which is a lot more badass than any jesus reference
She pulled a samba line out because the "n" and "m" sounds in some cases are interchangeable, particularly when followed by a consonant sound. ん or ン (pronounced like the "n" in "rain") is the only pure consonant sound in Japanese, so in gets subbed in for quite a few syllables you wouldn't expect, mainly "m" sounds. The joke is really untranslatable since the gag is she's サンタ (santa) and she summoned a サンバ (samba/sanba)
but you know this is for some reason my favourite anime this year yeah 2018 and this happened. Also when i first watched it and he showed the picture that was my reaction.
I watched this last week and it moved so fast my brain stopped. For real it's 2 episodes but it feels like they crammed 26 episodes in them. I love how the extras are staring at them like "What the fuck?" Santa Chick decorated a house in nothing but a shirt... Not to mention She just met the guy and she's walking around in nothing but a shirt... When time stopped they went to a restaurant... Who served them?
I know of another good Christmas anime(episode)...but it's an episode of a little girls show, Aikatsu. Still, it had the right Christmas spirit, and it was about making sure that everyone has a joyful holiday. But there is some godawful CG in it, and Sage has no tolerance for cute, so, it never had a chance.
there is somthing I dont get with the ranma anime and that is why they have a flash back from season 1 involving an episode that dident air untill the middle of either season 2 or was it 3 cant remember what season exacly but the episode flash back(or flash foward) was when they where in the ice scating challenge by the two crazy ice scaters.
Ben Rush probably never, he doesn't review anime that are less then ten years old but I doubt he'd review it since he isn't interested in the Moe Genre
The movie is way too new, but "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" was released in US in 2007. Sure Sage doesn't care for moe but maybe just maybe there should be a review of the series that many think as the first major success of KyoAni and the industry's overabundance of moe.

@@SamuraiMotoko See the problem is that these Manga creators have editors that always give them bad ideas for anime adaptations in the future. Hes basically a yes man to his Editor.
All I can think of about this OVA is the police arresting Mai for assault. And it could've ended right there.
Really enjoying the review so far sage, I'm especially grateful that you've retired the faux-rage reactions to this schlock and are going for more deadpan comebacks, and visual gags.
Holy hell the Ranma Christmas special
Squeeeee! Ranma!
I love that series so much. The christmas special has such a touching end that I wish would've happened sooner.
What the? A Sage episode on my Birthday? Yay!
I have to think Sage would absolutely loathe things like Excel Saga.
Shiirow surprisingly, you'd be wrong. he put it on his top 10 fav anime, actually.
Thomas Jenkins unless you're "emergency rations" that is....
hombreg1 hehe, dogs.
You should do the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure OVA.
Jacob Connerley how about the movie
you mean the movie that was only screened on theaters and NEVER RELEASED
ironmaster64 yes that one
if he could find the roger corman fantastic 4 he probably still will not find this
Yeah, that one makes Araki shiver.
i hope he does find it then, but im pretty sure that its not a good movie and i have a lot of reasons to believe that but it all comes to THERES NO FUCKING SPEEDWAGON WTF!!??
18:35
Obligitory "Za Warudo!" joke.
When i saw that, i had the biggest grin on my face. Lol
"TOKI WO TOMAREE!!!!
If Dio just popped in out of nowhere that would have redeemed this entire thing. Then again I can think of few things that can't be improved by a sudden Dio appearance.
DIO can enrich anything if you believe hard enough. XD
AA is so simple and similar to other reviews in form but I dig its style/atmosphere and Sage's way of delivery. Sadly other people from TGWTG original "cast" ;) are not focused enough on new material like they were back in the day. I hope AA will go for couple of years and stays fresh ;) Thank you Sage and keep the good work till you can ;)
7:25 "That's a lotta fish."
Ranma 1/2 eh? Sage, prepare to be introduced to the works of Toshiki Inoue. Brace yourself.
YES! Finally! I've waited so long for a Ranma review!
18:27 Zā Wārudo!
18:40 She theorized she had a similar type of stand.
I want this guy to tackle Hellsing at some point. Either the original anime or Ultimate.
Or both.
im excited for your review on the ranma 1/2 christmas special. i can wait. ranma 1/2 is one of my favorites in anime.
7:23 that's a lotta fish!
You could do Mobile Suit Gundam War In the Pocket for Christmas. If you wanted to make everyone sad, of course.
7:24 I Know This Joke's Been Done to Death Already But, That's a Lot of Fish!
Because there's a good chance the person will say "Y'know what, YOU are my problem!"
You know what the sad part is? I actually do like the idea of a Santa academy and a girl training to be the next Santa Claus. Such a shame the Love Hina guy took a genuinely interesting idea and squandered it.
HE SAT THROUGH ITSUDATTE MY SANTA!?!? The brave bastard........
next review was one I was hoping for a long time.
my heart skipped a beat when you announced that you are taking a visit to the Tendo Dojo to celebrate Santa Day with a big ol' helping of anything goes martial arts.
If its at all possible to have Suave and Happosai exchange gifts I beg of you to do so.
7:23 thats a lot of fish.......
This was the funniest review I've seen in a while
Wait, a Ranma review? Oooh this should be good
Sage, you um, you got a little... something... uh little something on your, um, on your nose there *cough*
Ranma 1/2!? Finally!!! I cry tears of joy
but Ken Akamastu really has a good series right now called UQ Holders! and its a sequel too Negima, and trust me when i say he has really improved on his writing. and is completely different from his early works.
He made more than just Love Hina. Fuuuuuuuuck...
his post-Love Hina stuff is rad. Mahou Sensei Negima and UQ Holder are both really good fusions of shounen battle/action and romcom (though UQ is much more of the former with some fanservice thrown in occasionally)
...as a diehard Negima fan though his old stuff makes me cringe.
the curse of Akamatsu: having your most mediocre stuff get adapted, or your best stuff turned into mediocre adaptations, or just the good shit not getting adapted at all.
Fingers crossed UQH's anime breaks the curse.
The OVAs were pretty cool, and the Negima!? anime was good.
Okay the part near the beginning with the egg nog did actually get me to laugh out loud XD
keep up the good work! have a happy holidays sage team :)
You do know Santa Claus is short for Saint Nicholas, a Catholic bishop famous for punching heretics and putting money in the shoes of poor people while they slept, right?
clearly this anime doesn't.
ShadowWolfRising True. I was just saying that Santa Claus talking about Jesus does make sense.
EyeOfEld I'd appreciate some randomly found sock money though...
Saint Nicholas, the original Badass.
EyeOfEld It could also be said that part of the Santa origin story is derived from the wild hunt and Odin. Which is a lot more badass than any jesus reference
Pass the bottle this is gonna be a painful one to sit through.
The joke is really untranslatable since the gag is she's
サンタ (santa)
and she summoned a
サンバ (samba/sanba)
IN ADDITION! The dialog point about Maimai vs. Mai needing to return makes more sense in Japanese.
Really the whole thing was poorly translated.
What should the translation have been, in that case?
This seems like one of those anime where you put on to laugh about how dumb it is with a friend.
man every time he mentions that sins of the sister jesus it gets me everytime
but you know this is for some reason my favourite anime this year yeah 2018 and this happened.
Also when i first watched it and he showed the picture that was my reaction.
an anime about the Easter Bunny explaining the resurrection of Christ make it happen.
That DVD would be great in a coal sack.
"next one is the ranma christmas special" OH BOY HERE WE GO
Sage, you make the best reaction gifs.
San- and Sam- are spelled using the same hiragana. Depending on what follows it, the sound will either be "N" or "M". So that's what's going on. :)
I was so excited this came out towards the end of my work day! God bless you Sage, I needed your swearing to put a smile on my face!
That's the voice of Misaka Mikoto, my favorite voice.
Not gonna lie, that "Okay, leave and come back as your hotter self" comment in the anime got a chuckle out of me. XD
Leave it to Sage. Just when you think he's cleaned out the septic tank of bad anime he always seems to find one more brown nugget in there.
if you want a good version of this kind of Santa story, Read the manga "Sweet Rein"
I'd still probably watch this over the Love Hina Christmas special.
That's a lot of fish...
there is somthing I dont get with the ranma anime and that is why they have a flash back from season 1 involving an episode that dident air untill the middle of either season 2 or was it 3 cant remember what season exacly but the episode flash back(or flash foward) was when they where in the ice scating challenge by the two crazy ice scaters.
YES!!! I cannot wait for Ranma 1/2! That's my fav anime! :D
so, when's he reviewing "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya."?
Ben Rush probably never, he doesn't review anime that are less then ten years old but I doubt he'd review it since he isn't interested in the Moe Genre
True, though it's more a sci-fi supernatural series then moe, to to me anyways
The movie is way too new, but "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" was released in US in 2007. Sure Sage doesn't care for moe but maybe just maybe there should be a review of the series that many think as the first major success of KyoAni and the industry's overabundance of moe.
It's also one of the few Christmas movies.
My God! I remember watching this, the cringing overpowered my will power to watch it completely.
Weirdly enough, I want to see more of that universe.
