I feel I saw this special as a kid, and genuinely thought it was supposed to be a Tail Spin special. At that age, changed names didn't bother me at all so long as the characters looked similar, since I would just account that to being a necessary part of telling a specific story.
The Town Santa Forgot.... HELL! You are literally the only person that reminded me of this vague memory I have of me watching Cartoon Network on my winter break. They used to marathon only Christmas specials during December on the Latin American Cartoon Network.
11:19 For "Nick and Noel," The curious thought occurred to me, wondering where they found a full wedding dress in time for a spur of the moment, Christmas Day wedding. Then I realized that she's marrying a single father...very possibly a widower. That's, ah...an almost Burtonesque level of "re-gifting," I have to admit.
I kinda felt had "Nick and Noel, been longer maybe have Sarah's dad and Lesley talking about themeselfs and theme starting to know each other a lot more maybe it would've showed up Sometimes forming a relasonship is getting to know the person and seeing what you have to like or Dislike or find common grounds
There are two ways that the "Joy to the World" segment of the Festival of Claymation could have been done: 1) a log of clay carefully molded to make all those different features in the middle, and then sliced through to make each frame 2) simply smearing the blobs of clay into the different shapes.
The "12 Days of Christmas" one was something far more entertaining than "Noel", which Phelous covered. Though that stop-motion Santa Claus special is freaking bizarre. But Christmas DOES take place during some of the "Harry Potter" movies. This isn't the last time Ed Asner and Betty White have played Santa and Mrs. Claus. :) ("Elf", "Prep and Landing" series) Also, Opus is awesome. And that running gag about 'wassailing"/"waffling"...
The Story of Santa Claus is my favorite Christmas special. I had it on a VHS tape my parents recorded from TV and never stopped watching it as long as I had a VCR player. It's an underrated special.
I saw Cosmic Christmas the year it was created. For years I thought I had imagined it. My favorite part the the main character's grandmother reminiscing about how magicical Christmas was for her as a child.
I love these forgotten special lists of yours. I watched a ton of these, and completely spaced it on the names. Thanks to these, I've been able to put these in my holiday marathon list each year.
I am eternally grateful for your release of this particular video. I was just hoping that your #8 would indeed be on this list. I've been trying to remember the exact title for over a decade.
I always come back to your christmas special videos every year, and in full honesty of the season, the letter reading in Yes, Virginia still makes me weepy.
#6 is my favorite Nutcracker adaption out of all Nutcracker animations. I don't know why, but this is the movie that I so fondly go back to every Christmas. I'm so glad I am able to have my copy at home to watch.
My family had a VHS of taped Christmas specials we'd caught over the years and A Wish For Wings That Work was probably my mom's favorite. My aunt found it in a DVD bargain bin a few years ago.
This is good too see again on RUclips, especially together with your other Christmas lists. Though I was hoping to see a new list for this year, I'm still glad I got to revisit the first 12 forgotten.
I hope you do another one of these forgotten Christmas specials lists. Ones I’d like to add are: 1. “Jingle Bell Rap” - a Story about a rock band of anthropomorphic dogs. 2 and 3. “The Bestest Present” and “For Better or Worse: The Christmas Angel” -based on the Comic strip. 4. “Christopher the Christmas Tree” - originally aired on Fox during the Fox Kids era of the 90s 5. “The Merry Mirthworm Christmas” - from the animation team behind “Jingle Bell Rap”
Ahhh Rankin Bass Specials. They will always be my favorite Christmas specials, for they have a charm that others just seem to lack. (Not saying they are not good, but there was just something in Ranking Bass Specials....) Nestor the Long Eared Christmas Donkey is by far my favorite of them.
Funny thing is I was looking for this on your old channel the other day and couldn't find it. Thanks for putting it back up. Like your holiday related episodes.
I LOVE A Wish for Wings That Work. Heck, I just love Bloom County in general. Politics usually go over my head, but Breathed's sense of humor actually makes his political jokes funny even for me. "I might as well be a dung beetle! Or a fly-infested worm-infused molded mildewed SCRAP OF ROTTEN BANANA! Or a network executive." XD I also enjoy Christmas is Here Again myself. Yeah the songs need improving - though I do laugh whenever Krad says that he'd rather do a dance than be good and his selves end up doing the dance - but I do like the characters (at least the goodguys). Plus I'm kinda a sucker for orphan stories, since I'm planning on adopting kids in the future.
OMG!!!! The town Santa forgot!!!!!! I could not for the life of me find that anywhere..it was just.kne of those weird memories of a movie I thought might have existed.
You probably know by now that CBS recently reran The Story Of Santa Claus. It may be a stretch to say that this video had anything to do with that, but what harm is there in thinking it might have? :)
When we were kids in the 80's our mother made these VHS tapes with holiday specials on them like Christmas which we had 2 of and 1 for Halloween so most of these weren't forgotten in my family, in fact the life and times was a favourite of our families and was watched every year. We also had Nick and Noel in a box VHS Christmas special set, still have them to this day. Sad that so many have missed out on these.
the Town that Santa Forgot somehow takes place in the 1950s or 1960s and the Grandfather (played by Dick Van Dyke) was living in the future (circa 2020s) to be exact!
"Well I'm not an elf...I'm certainly not a scholar. But I do know that Belief, above all else, is the one thing that _really_ makes magic happen." Sounds like Mage: The Ascension. A tabletop RPG where Belief alters reality, and adherence to one's world view can move mountains.
#8 Is one of my favorites @12:28😂LOL. This is exactly what I was looking for some of the film's you mention I am familiar with however others I've never seen, I'll be looking those up and watching them soon. I was looking up Forgotten Christmas movies because I got bored of the ones I'm familiar with except a few & I don't like too many of the new ones they just don't have the same spunk.
The ironic fact of the Nutcracker Prince is that it is the only one that is close to the original story. The story within a story about the brat Princess and the MOUSE Queen is a big part of the original version.
Hmmm, am I the only one to rather like the colorscape and saturation in 12 Days of Christmas here? Just havin' this brightish vibe and it bein' a Christmas special despite no snow or cold colors anywhere. Kinda like how the pink tint in Sailor Moon became a thing in Future Funk or such.
I remember one Christmas special I loved watching as a kid was the 1992 Christmas Special Noel, luckily they have that special on RUclips so I can watch it every Christmas. :)
Nick and Noel had a tie in with Toys R U where they sold both stuffed dolls before the special, I remember getting Noel.. probably still have her somewhere..
The Story of Santa Claus still is shown on CBS. Christmas is Here Again doesn't look perfect, but I do like the story, especially the part about Santa's sack being made from Jesus' swaddling clothes. Too bad that they couldn't show it on T.V., because the Atheists would think it's "offensive" and the Jesus freaks would think it's "blasphemous". It would be nice to see something like that on Cartoon Network especially, since all they have are shows like Teen Titans Go! literally teaching kids to be lazy and disrespectful.
Man, I remember so many of these. And yet I probably will forget about them again. Which is sad because I loved Life and Times of Santa Claus, the hand drawn version
FINALLY!! Someone who remembers not only the Twelve days of Christmas special but ALSO A Claymation Christmas and The Nutcracker Prince!! YES!! HOLY CRUD?! The number 8 spot, I've only seen a snippet of that on an old VHS in our house and could NEVER find out what it was! Why does everyone hate rankin/bass? Just remember that several of the studios in Japan that worked for them became Toei (Dragon ball and One Piece) and Studio Ghibli! Also, anyone remember the Special "Blue Toes" the "For Better or Worse" special or the ever enigmatic "The real story of O Christmas Tree"?
The '70s cartoon version of "Yes Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus!" I only saw it once years ago but I want to see it again. I think it's out-of-print on DVD.
13:29 WHAT IS THAT MOVIE!!!! i only saw it once as a kid i NEED the title. That's the ONLY one i remember that has a talking mountain lion. And if i remember correctly, one of her lines was "show yourself or risk your life".
I wish I could find a good quality version of The Stingiest Man in Town. The best one I can find has the audio getting unsynched right by the ghost of christmas future part and foward
TindraSan there's a collection DVD of Christmas classics that has the Stingiest Man in town. Along with the grinch, Christmas in July, rudolphs shiny new year, Nestor the Christmas Donkey, frostys winter wonderland, 'twas the night before Christmas, and the year without a Santa Claus.
WI don't know if it's deja vu or if I knew of them through other channels, but I've heard of some of these before. But now after seeing the description, I guess that explains that Deja vu.
Well almost made it through the list with nothing I had heard of, but I have seen the last one. It's usually on Netflix. Still though, how does anything Christmas-y made by Rankin-Bass become forgotten? I definitely want to check out #8.
There's one Christmas cartoon I'd wish they'd put back on. Jingle Bell Rap. This one's about four Beatles like dogs. One of the dogs, Rollover had a fight with his dad about his band career. Dad did not want him to spend his time being in a band! To make up with Dad, Rollover comes back to town to see his father and someone gives him the impression that his father died. But there's a big secret about Dad. And Rollover gets a big surprise just before he performs his song, Jingle Bell Rap.
I always love coming back to your forgotten christmas specials and the Halloween specials.
Thank you. And yeah I'm working on a halloween video.

Yep, I can see it
More like a taller ancestor of Sunni Gummi.
Using Jesus' swaddling cloth as Santa's magical sack... Makes a hell of a lot more sense then what Kirk Cameron thought up for the swaddling cloth

I really liked THE TOWN THAT SANTA FORGOT.

I love these forgotten special lists of yours. I watched a ton of these, and completely spaced it on the names. Thanks to these, I've been able to put these in my holiday marathon list each year.

I loved all of the holiday specials on this channel before and this one is no exception!
Life and Adventures of Santa Claus has always been my favorite of the Rankin Bass specials since I saw it in the 80's as a kid.
I'll have to give some of these a watch, though it does make me wonder if he'll do another list this year.
Wow...
That Star Wars Christmas special killed so many careers...
