That Forgotton Toys christmas special changed a bit for the US release! The doll was voiced by Johanna Lumley in the UK version and there were certainly no yellow school buses in it. But got to add, what about The Racoons' Christmas special, in fact that was the pilot for the TV series!
Well, "technically" there are no buses in the UK for school kids, they have to make their own way to school. But here in London they put on extra double decker red buses, though that's still a standard paid for ticket service like regular buses. But you should check out The Racoons dude! loved the series as a kid!
I don't know why I prefer the American voice of the doll. Its pretty obvious that she is Lumley in our version and to be fair she does an okay job, I just never thought she was the right choice for a doll that looks like that.
+MegaSOSbrigade Personally I think that's what makes it work best, just because you also don't expect Teddy to sound like Bob Hoskins. It's all about contrast, at least that's the way I've always seen it.
I love re-watching this video when I'm in the mood for something Christmas-y! Although if you ever decide to make another Forgotten Christmas specials CR, might I suggest three Jim Henson productions? One would be A Muppet Family Christmas, one of the last things Jim worked on before he passed, and is beloved among Muppet fans as it not only stars the Muppets, but the Sesame Street muppets, as well as the Fraggle Five (and Gerry Parks as Doc) from Fraggle Rock - but also surprisingly doesn't seem too well-known outside of the Muppet fandom. The other would be Jim Henson's The Christmas Toy, which, while the characters from that movie were made by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, it's not a Muppet related movie. In fact, Kermit briefly shows up at the beginning of the movie, and that's it. It's definitely only really known amongst the more diehard Muppet fans. The third would be Mr. Willoby's Christmas Tree, which is a combination of puppets and live actors. Again, the puppets were made by the Creature Shop, and Kermit is the only well-known Muppet that appears at the beginning and ending of the special as the narrator. But it's still really good! It stars Robert Downey Jr when he was still wacked out on drugs (which you can totally tell he is), Leslie Nielsen, Stockard Channing and Kevin Clash (formerly Elmo). It's a charming little TV special, and I think it only ever aired once on TV back in 1995. But as far as I know, the entirety of the special is still on RUclips. I would mention John Denver's Rocky Mountain Holiday that co-stars the Muppets, but it doesn't really follow a plotline. John Denver and the Muppets just hike in the mountains and sing songs. Ahem. Yeah, I'll admit to being a huge Muppet nerd as a 28-year-old woman. :P
I just wanted to say I love the work you do, love seeing this in my sub box, love the history, love the drawings, and I love how the show evolves in a way. Keep up the good work. :D
Ziggy's Christmas and Bearenstain Bears Christmas tree were 2 of my favourites as a child. My mom recorded them in the 80's still watch them every Christmas. Loved Ziggy so much I still have my toys lol.
I actually had the book version of the Berenstein Bears' Christmas Tree story as a kid--didn't know it was an animated special. I'll have to see that next year.
Dude, I’ve been looking for old forgotten specials to share with my friends, and these little lists are a good mine for that. Thank you for compiling them.
I remember seeing Blue Toes as a kid and I loved it. Annabelle's Wish was one of the most adorable specials I saw (I was 12 when is came out) and looking now, I didn't realize that the Aunt was voiced by Cloris Leachman! It also includes Randy Travis, Jerry Van Dyke, Jim Varney and obviously Kath Soucie as Annabelle. Also, I want a teddy bear with the voice of Bob Hoskins!
The Trolls and The Christmas Express was by the Canadian studio, Atkinson Film Arts. They're probably best known for doing the Teddy Ruxpin animated series and are often mistaken for Nelvana.
Hey CR I love your work, videos and artwork. I have to say that you're one of my favorite reviewers on the net. I often watch your videos when I'm in need of inspiration. I'm often amazend on the different turns you can take on certain characters and movies, and I even learn from them. I have for a long time wanted to propose a suggestion for a Familier Faces. One that I've always wanted to see from you. Could you maybe take a look at Marvin the martian? It's ok if you don't want to do it
I'm sorry CR, as much as I love to say you made me die laughing once in every one of your videos, the one time you didn't was when Bob Hoskins was yelling in-character as Teddy. XD HE'S JUST SO FRIGGING ADORABLE!
Annabelle's Wish was a bigger hit on home video. I had the VHS tape and even remember seeing tie in merchandise for it at the PX in story and activity books.
To my surprise I've actually seen some of these unlike the first time you did this (though I had heard of a few from the first one). Specifically, Yogi's First Christmas, Father Christmas, a Christmas Carol and the Forgotten Toys. Though I think in the case of the forgotten toys the special came before the series (as a kid I didn't see the series until years after seeing the special which I'd seen several times by that point so assumed the series was new at the time).
I REMEMBER FATHER CHRISTMAS!!! I saw it ONCE! However, I could never remember the title and this was before the days when TV's had "Guide" and "Info" buttons on the remote. Heck it was the days before REMOTES. It always stuck in my mind due to the animation style and how Santa would say "MERRY BLOOMIN CHRISTMAS!" Made me think that I just saw a special where Santa cussed.
I actually remember both seeing the Bearenstain Bears Christmas special as a kindergartner and being read the book. I really don't remember that ending with the salmon though--pretty darn funny.
when i saw the ziggy one it made me think of harvey birdman where he says "ladies and gentlemen, we all remember the 70's the fashion, the music, the heart warming ,but rarely amusing ziggy cartoons"
I saw Annabelle's Wish once. I barely remember it. In fact, it had completely slipped from my memory until I watched this. I'm gonna have to track it down.
I remember a special back in the 80's that was about a white teddy bear that helps return Santa's toy sack after leaving it behind. He meets up with 2 other bears, a boy bear that is like his evil twin and tries to stop him, and a girl bear that flies a red airplane that helps him. It was kinda popular at the time cause Mc Donalds or Burger King had plush toys for it for a while. If anyone knows the name of this Christmas Special please let me know!
I was watching the first list when the mention of Cosmic Christmas made me wonder: you think you could do a review of the other Nelvanamation specials, especially Easter Fever, Romie-0 and Julie-8, The Devil and Daniel Mouse, and Intergalactic Thanksgiving? I've already seen these specials quite a few times, but I'd still like to see your point of view on them.
Oh man Annabell's Wish! One of my top 5 favorite Christmas Specials! (most of them also not being as well known. *cough* Rankin Bass's Nestor the Long Eared Christmas Donkey, and Disney's Small One. *cough*) I guess you can say I love the Christmas specials with more... non Christmas traditional talking animals? (Donkeys/Farm Animals.)
Some are my favorites (#11, 8, 7, 5 and 4) #9 is Dad's favorite. On RUclips, I couldn't find a special that involves a girls older sister running away from home 'cause of a tattoo
I grew up watching The Forgotten Toys and I never saw the special, Teddy and Annie never found a home when I watched it. Canon or not, I just watched the spciel and it was amazing, just like the show
I find it quite funny that tbe special with santa going on holiday wasn't shown in the US due to him drinking. My family have allways left santa some sherry or port ;D
+MaveriKat I'm disappointed to, the first list was what got me interested in checking out Christmas Is Here Again (sorry, got the title wrong) and I ended up really enjoying it. Yeah the songs could've been improved, but the rest of it is great
+MWolfL AS MUCH AS I WANT TO SEE IT NOW, I am wiling to be patient for CR to upload it. I'm aware that it's not easy making a living as an artist and he probably has his own reasons why he can't upload. TYT man and hope all is going well.
So apparently, you're #12 on the list is the Nostalgia Critic's "worst Christmas special ever". Thing is, like you said, this is like The Room, in that it's so bizarrely bad that it has to be seen to be believed!
I need your help with an obscure bizarre Christmas film. When I was a kid I saw a little bit of a movie that was a modern day adaption of A Christmas Carol. BUT, it takes a sudden left turn when one of the ghosts, sick of doing the job hijacks the time travel whatever to go back in time and fix his own life forcing the Scrooge and other Ghost to stop him. I swear this was a real thing but I can't find anything about it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
No that's Scrooged which is more of a straight retelling of the story. I would recommend that one if you have the chance, it has a lot of great dark humor.
Was wondering where you got your version of 'The Forgotten Toys: The Night After Christmas', cause the voice of Annie seems to have been switched. The original series had Joana Lumley, who also did this movie (which is the common version I keep finding online), and the one you have has Shelly Thompson.
The pickpocket in the Ziggy special reminds me strongly of the thief from The Thief and the Cobbler
"Are you sure?" "No I'm Tender."
That got me.
11) I like how Ann and Andy looks in the Jones' specials.
9) This was the first Christmas special I ever watched.
3) I love this short.
That Forgotton Toys christmas special changed a bit for the US release! The doll was voiced by Johanna Lumley in the UK version and there were certainly no yellow school buses in it.
But got to add, what about The Racoons' Christmas special, in fact that was the pilot for the TV series!
I don't know much about the Raccoons.
But why would the Bus's not be yellow. What color should they be?
Well, "technically" there are no buses in the UK for school kids, they have to make their own way to school.
But here in London they put on extra double decker red buses, though that's still a standard paid for ticket service like regular buses.
But you should check out The Racoons dude! loved the series as a kid!

+MegaSOSbrigade Personally I think that's what makes it work best, just because you also don't expect Teddy to sound like Bob Hoskins. It's all about contrast, at least that's the way I've always seen it.
Yeah anyway to make it appear like some northeastern city in the states!
In a more just world, Ziggy's Gift would be every bit as beloved as A Charlie Brown Christmas.

+cannibalisticrequiem I know that feeling.
CR will be happy to know that the Gift of Winter and it's Halloween counterpart are finally being released on DVD. It's true.
Why did the academy made that "no TV specials that eventually made theatrical runs" rule?
I love The Forgotten Toys if only Bob Hoskins was still alive to see this special.
I actually had the book version of the Berenstein Bears' Christmas Tree story as a kid--didn't know it was an animated special. I'll have to see that next year.
5:34
Deadpool(Wipes away an imaginary tear): I’m so proud!
Gosh, most of these specials take me back--way back. Thanks for going over them.
Dude, I’ve been looking for old forgotten specials to share with my friends, and these little lists are a good mine for that. Thank you for compiling them.
Chad make another one of these for this year! my family loves these. I'll support you on patron as soon as I run into some more money.
It's too bad that a lot of these christmas specials aren't played on TV anymore, thanks for showing these and talking about them.
DUDE! I LOVED Yogi's First Christmas!
Awesome list! Thanks for including Annabelle's Wish! I just love Kath Soucie in that! Ever seen Twas the Night Before Bumpy?
I remember seeing Annabelle's Wish as a kid, back when I was really into Country Music. I forgot this one, and how sweet it was. Thanks, CR.
Over a decade after this video released, and I JUST noticed all the "Christmas is Here Again" references during the Blue Toes segment.
What a blast from the past I didn't even remember that yogi special but I remember that clip and that voice thanks for that
I remember seeing Blue Toes as a kid and I loved it.
Squeeze his tummy, he talks!
*squezzes*
"WELL NOW THERE'S BEEN AN ERUPTION!"
this reminded me me of why i want to work in animation.
The Trolls and The Christmas Express was by the Canadian studio, Atkinson Film Arts. They're probably best known for doing the Teddy Ruxpin animated series and are often mistaken for Nelvana.
Raggedy Ann... every few weeks, she turns into *On The* Raggedy Ann. 😀
7:30 Domestic terrorism in a holiday special. Gotta love the '70s.
Oh...and parents, don't name your kid Snively. It's just asking for trouble.
31:46 nightmare fuel? what are you talking about?
i laughed my but off when i say that as a kid
I haven't forgotten Yogi's First Christmas.
To my surprise I've actually seen some of these unlike the first time you did this (though I had heard of a few from the first one). Specifically, Yogi's First Christmas, Father Christmas, a Christmas Carol and the Forgotten Toys. Though I think in the case of the forgotten toys the special came before the series (as a kid I didn't see the series until years after seeing the special which I'd seen several times by that point so assumed the series was new at the time).
awww that 2ed to last one hits me right in the feels.
Will you be down to another Christmas specials video like what you did with the recent 13 weird halloween specials?
I remember seeing Annabelle's Wish when I was 12.
Okay for real, I'm almost sure Cindy made me realize I was actually a furry. She's the first biped animal character I recall crushing on
I REMEMBER FATHER CHRISTMAS!!!
I saw it ONCE! However, I could never remember the title and this was before the days when TV's had "Guide" and "Info" buttons on the remote. Heck it was the days before REMOTES.
It always stuck in my mind due to the animation style and how Santa would say "MERRY BLOOMIN CHRISTMAS!"
Made me think that I just saw a special where Santa cussed.
OMG Blue Toes.....I had this on vhs but had forgotten about it completely
ive been trying to find herman the hermit for at least 10 years and this video finally had a picture of him. Fucking memories man lol thanks bro
OMG ANNABELLES WISH!! I USED TO WATCH THIS EVERY SINGLE CHRISTMAS!!!
#12 This is available in full on RUclips. It DOES have to be seen to be fully (un)appreciated. I'm glad you mentioned Santa's super-creepy voice.
Doh! It is Santa Bear! Now I remember
I remember the forgotten toys one I think I saw it once
Weird thing is i never knew the ohter 9 but i do remember watching number 2 and number 1 at one point in my childhood
I guess crying does solve problems after all! 7:56
3:05-32 the bolt of lightning turning her into a drooling vegetable helped.
Will there be a third, PLEASE LET THERE BE MORE, I want to see more of these forgotten specials
I saw Annabelle's Wish once. I barely remember it. In fact, it had completely slipped from my memory until I watched this. I'm gonna have to track it down.
Wasn't Bob Hoskins in the running for voicing Rocket Racoon in "Guardians of the Galaxy" before he passed away? I can see why...
Figure out a way to add that first list. It was a really good one.
I totally forgot that Cindy Bear apparently tries to seduce Boo Boo, I haven't watched that special in my years.
*SLAM*
seriously though that special makes me laugh every time because of the fucking sound effects..
its just so damn funny.
"Don't worry about Mrs Mavilda,( blah blah blah). Don't worry about Mrs Mavilda", said the narrator, Torgo
I owned Annabelle's Wish growing up and I wore that tape out.
I grew up with the trolls one here in Canada. I was made by the same people that did the Raccoons I believe.
I cried at the end of Annabelles wish! :')
I actually saw Witch's Night Out. Man that was bizarre
I have the VHS of Annabelle's Wish! I love that movie!
I remember a special back in the 80's that was about a white teddy bear that helps return Santa's toy sack after leaving it behind. It was kinda popular at the time cause Mc Donalds or Burger King had plush toys for it for a while. If anyone knows the name of this Christmas Special please let me know!
If I am right Kaiju means Kari from Digimon the voice actress did a couple other animes and was the voice of Juniper Lee
I remember that Yogi Bear Christmas special
I was watching the first list when the mention of Cosmic Christmas made me wonder: you think you could do a review of the other Nelvanamation specials, especially Easter Fever, Romie-0 and Julie-8, The Devil and Daniel Mouse, and Intergalactic Thanksgiving? I've already seen these specials quite a few times, but I'd still like to see your point of view on them.
I BELIEVE IN SANTA BUM!!!
Can you bring this back this year?
Some are my favorites (#11, 8, 7, 5 and 4) #9 is Dad's favorite. On RUclips, I couldn't find a special that involves a girls older sister running away from home 'cause of a tattoo
Wait wasn't there another Yogi related Christmas Special? One that crossed over Hannah Barbara w/ Casper of all things?
Casper’s first Christmas.
Merry Christmas from California 😎
14:09
Oh hai, Bert Raccoon. When did YOU become a troll?
Got it on the first list.
Damn it, Annabel's wish still makes me cry.
And Blip no longer exists to check the first list. :(
+MaveriKat I'm disappointed to, the first list was what got me interested in checking out Christmas Is Here Again (sorry, got the title wrong) and I ended up really enjoying it. Yeah the songs could've been improved, but the rest of it is great

He just uploaded it to RUclips recently as of this writing.
I love the Forgotten Toys!
I LOVE the title card
I have trolls and the Christmas express on tape too
Ziggy looks like a mix between Doug Funnie and Humpty Dumpty.
Santa bum will forever live
Wow people joke how Santa's job might be creepy if you think about it,but in the case of The Christmas Tree....wow O_O
So apparently, you're #12 on the list is the Nostalgia Critic's "worst Christmas special ever". Thing is, like you said, this is like The Room, in that it's so bizarrely bad that it has to be seen to be believed!
He said forgotten, not good.
I need your help with an obscure bizarre Christmas film. When I was a kid I saw a little bit of a movie that was a modern day adaption of A Christmas Carol. I've...heard of that,I even might have seen it...but I can't remeber the name.
That's alright. Ask anybody you think might now. With 7 billion on the planet somebody has to have seen it.
No that's Scrooged which is more of a straight retelling of the story. I would recommend that one if you have the chance, it has a lot of great dark humor.
do you mean the 2005 movie Chasing Christmas that starred Tom Arnold in it?
Is that an instumental version of McArthur Park?
I remember seeing The Christmas Tree
To this day I am annoyed they didn't go for the obvious alliteration with "Happy Holidays to Herman".
Yes I have very petty concerns.
I don't agree with all the choices on the list, but I do like the addition of Annabelle's Wish.
Now I want to see The Christmas Tree
Also, I think Kath Soucie plays Annabelle
Was wondering where you got your version of 'The Forgotten Toys: The Night After Christmas', cause the voice of Annie seems to have been switched. The original series had Joana Lumley, who also did this movie (which is the common version I keep finding online), and the one you have has Shelly Thompson.
2.dosent that one has jim varney?
I guess Linkara was wrong, in the case of the ending of Annabelle's Wish you can rearrange DNA

"It was spelled 'Stein'! IT WAS SPELLED 'STEEEEEEEIIIIIIIINNNNNNN'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" - The Nerd
seanmyster6 im glad that I'm not the only one who noticed that he pronounced it that way
