Great explanation. I went to Danny Walker’s class earlier this year. He uses the Yamaha TTR-125. It was a humbling experience. I went out and got one as a small practice bike. I haven’t thought about actually racing it, but your explanation makes sense and I’m going to do it. More seat time is better!
I Attended Walker’s Supercamp. Ever since I’ve believed that one cannot have any more fun than sliding around in 2nd gear on an XR-100. A Great learning experience.
I ride a DRZ400SM as my daily commuter and an EXC 200 as my primary dirt bike. I've been looking for a small bike to fart around on when I'm tired at the end of the day from riding singletrack on the 200 so I've been researching the XR100 and TTR125L. I don't intend to race at all, but you did a fantastic job of providing so many positive attributes of the XR. Excellent job!!!
Great advice. I preach this to my kids as they move up each year. Huge flat track fan too. XR100 is even fun for thr dad to ride. I have a blast on my daughters
Thank you, this is an excellent video. My intention is to pick up a cheap Honda CRF 100/XR 100 and try the DTRA minibike class (in UK) this year. Thank you for the encouragement.
I just found a XR 100 on fakebook market place for $ 1300 looks like new 2000 model year and I have a 3 acre yard next door to my garage to practice picking up bike latter this evening.
I paid 1003 years ago. The one that looked like it just came off the lot. As of now I have installed a cam, lighten the flywheel about a pound and a hand built under exit exhaust. I’ve been waiting to get a 115 high compression kit for it.
I'm 6'3 and 350 lbs. They are a BLAST! I put 3/4" taller ATV bars on and rotated them forward just a bit from the stock position. Put BBR springs in the forks and shock. A TTR125 will give you a bit more room but an XR100 will work.
@@maxthunder2 Like Mike said in the video, training on mini's is extremely beneficial. I roadraced 1000cc bikes so when Mike suggested it I didn't think 7hp minis would help my riding. I was WRONG. I have 2 minis that I love riding. Try it, you'll love it. If I can fit, anyone can. Plus I'm old.
@@45triplex79 I saw your riding videos it looks like you were having fun on those mini bikes! These bikes aren't a big investment it couldn't hurt to try it!
Depends on how hard the track is. "Adventure" tires like the Bridgestone Trailwing work. Trials tires work too. It the track is hard and well-packed a street tire like the Pirelli scooter tire wins races.
@@FlatTrackFactory Thank you, gives me a good starting point, building an xl1200 hooligan bike but this has convinced me to invest in a seat time machine
I'm not real familiar with them. The seem small, and I'm not sure they fit into the average club race or semi-pro race night to everyone's satisfaction. My concern with adding new bikes is that new classes make the event longer unless a class is phased out. My question would be, what does [insert new bike] offer that the 13-19 existing classes doesn't already do better or very well?
A bit yes. You may have to run your wheelbase on the long side, and grind a bit on the swingarm flanges that get in the way. Different year bikes may need more or less material removal.

Very cool! Figuring out how to hustle a slow, poorly suspended bike pays off in surprising ways. Thanks for stopping by to comment.

This is still one of my fav videos that u made. Thx, Mike.

Right on! Thanks for checking the video out.
We would have 100’s 75’s one guy had an old sl125 and jam around a mini oval at buddies ranch it was so fun .
A great case of finding older content that's super relevant for me right now :-) - thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
The XR 100 is by far my favourite motorcycle of all time.
It's tops for dollar/fun!
Thanks again Mike fir a great video...now I want an XR100 to have fun with...
Thank to this video, last sunday I bought an almost new CRF 100. Cant wait to ride it on the speedway track
Good choice!
AMEN
I got a Honda xr 70 r for me for my practice bike and I’m giving it all it’s got little small for me but I’m looking to get a Yamaha 125

super big ass wisdom right here ...
Awesome👍
Awesome bike Thank you for your video with love flat track bikes and that’s a special little bike can’t wait to build one for myself 🤘☘️🇺🇸
great video!
Thanks for the visit
What is your opinion on the Sunday motors 147? I'm thinking about trying flat track. After watching this I'm not sure which bike to go with.
My friend races a Sunday 150. Its quite a bit faster than my xr 100 with 120 kit installed

Yes! But is it good for a new rider that weights 200+ pounds and 6"5.

@@45triplex79 a ttr125 is good for a tall rider! I thought I had to buy a 450 if you weight over 200! are 250 is good to?

Exactly. And they hold their value quite well.

What do you think about the small sunday bikes that are popping up every where

Do you have own 50+ motorcycles the XR 100 is a blast
Currently I have 5. Maybe 5.5 or 6, depending on how you count them. XR 100's are awesome. Thanks for watching!
WHAT SIZE TIRE YOU GOT IN THE BACK? THAT'S ALL I WANNA KNOW
130/80-16
@@FlatTrackFactory does it rub at all on the front on the tire by the guard?

@@FlatTrackFactory ok. I got a 99 xr100 and I wanna go with the the tallest tire without rubbing problems. On the rear what do you recommend
What pipe is on that
That's a Jemco.
Flat Track Factory where can you get that
www.jemcoexhaust.com/contact.html
Thank you
Came here looking to make my dirtbike faster... now I'm mentally ready to be a flat tracker😂
Sucking you guys in to our sport. One new racer at a time!
What bars and exhaust pipe are on that bike if you don't mind my asking? And clearly you only plan on laying it down on the left side ;-)
The pipe is by Jemco and the bars are Renthal (I think). The bark buster gets in the way of "elbows up" "screwdriver hand" on the throttle.
Who the hell didn't like this video LOL
It was me. I don't like the receding hairline or lack of drywall in half of the shop.

I was shooting for the 70's. I'll keep trying.
