- British Airways has always been a pioneer in its field and has a history of taking chances and risks to test market trends. OpenSkies was an exciting chapter in their history and is often overlooked, arguably because the airline itself was largely overlooked by British Airways. In this video, Airways illustrates the history of Openskies, from its origins to its downfall.

There is a small mistake there is no B757 with GE CF6 Engines. The B757 was only available with RR RB211 or Pratt and Whitney PW2000 Engines.
I flew Open Skies R/T between EWR and ORY in 2015. Those flights were my first transatlantic business class experience. Given that lack of exposure to main line business classes, I found it to be a big improvement over the economy flights I took between JFK-LHR the previous year. Since then, I’ve flown business in Delta, Iberia, and Air France and realize how subpar Open Skies hard product was. It definitely beat economy but it was underwhelming in retrospect. Yes, it was cheaper and it remains the only transatlantic business trip I’ve paid for (I am one of those points and miles geeks) but having managed my miles accrual my subsequent experiences on award tickets have been far superior.
Thanks for this video. I saw those B752s many times at Newark and assumed they were BA planes celebrating the agreement. I didn’t know until now that it was a separate entity!
Love this style of video with the deep dive into the airline strategy would like to see more of it!
Thank you for sharing.😊😊
Always wanted to do this route on the 757 and the prices were so competitive.
That business class on 757 is even better than the current most on latest narrowbody
I was on the last flight, unknowingly. Newark to Orly We got a certificate and little model plane. It made up for the lack of usual amenity kit. The attendants were great. Weirdest biz class seat ever but cool.
The A318 service from LCY was discontinued a few years ago, having been cut by then to one daily flight.
Yea it’s pretty sad in my opinion I personally like that plane and I often go to nyc and live near LCY
Open skies used to be my favorite. You had gotten through security at EWR in minutes and then through customs in Ory in minutes
The 757 was a brilliant aircraft. Ironically, it was its over engineering that led to its demise.
Openskies was Found in 2008 & Ceased Operations on July 8th, 2020
I’m more of a jumbo jet fan but narrow-body service has its benefits.
That 75 layout also had a partial economy cabin by the looks of it. So was it actually all business or was it just 2 different business products along with economy?? And has Brussels ever been a sustainable top tier European hub? Their history of airline operation hasn’t been stellar
And F HILU was an ER, not an R….
I’m ashamed to admit that I had no idea OpenSkies was a thing, but admittedly, I’ve never been across the pond!
Why 😭😭 openskies had a very good concept
British airways “not what it was?”
Is any airline? I might point out that even Singapore Airlines now serve economy class meals in cardboard boxes.

@@actuality it's normally Americans trying to talk about European business.

BA does offer an all Business Class Transatlantic product.
I'm British, and I avoid British Airways whenever possible. Their staff are dreadful 🇬🇧
I am british 2 and I agree ba and just sub par I travel from nz to uk regularly but if I have go through Australia if I on Qantas I make sure I not on a ba code share there hard product is bad staff rude there are better options
If you haven't tried them recently give them another go.
Most of Qantas UK are ex BA crew 🤣 and BA has plenty of ex Qantas, Virgin, Emirates, Japan Airlines etc working for them
Annoying, distracting and unnecessary background music. Had to stop watching
