I flew recently with BA to Tokyo, which is now 14hrs going and 15hrs return. As BA is not allowed to fly over Russia. Which fly’s over turkey and china going towards Japan and flys over the North Pole returning back to the UK.
The problem with very long flights is the plane must carry huge amounts of extra fuel which add many tons to the plane's weight. This also means more fuel per passenger is burned to carry the extra weight. Freight airlines stop in Anchorage to refuel so that they can carry more freight instead of more fuel to burn up. After about 4,800km or 3,000 miles, it's increasingly more efficient to stop along the way for a refueling.
Longest flight on BA was in 1992 and it was Detroit Mi to London Heathrow aboard a beautiful 747-400. It was always special to see the BA planes coming in for a landing in Detroit. They don't service DTW anymore as Delta seems to have that route locked down, as well as the connecting ability their code share partners.
Longest flight for me on a British aircraft was BOAC 1965 Entebee Uganda London on a VC10. A beautiful , quiet , smooth flight. The Chief Steward was a delightful older Cunard Ocean Liner Veteran. He and my parents had an interesting chat before we tipped the seats back for a good nap. We had departed at about 1:20AM.
Just flew Santiago to LHR. 787, in J. Very good flight, with great crew. Not sure about the ying/yang seating, but it served its purpose. BTW correction, Qantas uses A380 on sin-lhr, syd-lax, mel-lax. Longest routes ( per--lhr, auk-lhr, syd-dfw) are 787.
I'm off to SCL in early March, fortunately in First ( I hate BA's old Club World cabins ). Where did you stay, any recommendations? We have booked the Mandarin Oriental.
I do the #1 flight mentioned fairly often and it's a nice flight, works perfectly as an overnight flight leaving in the afternoon and arriving early next morning. I've never suffered any jet lag from the flight at all and always have a full active day after arriving. I put this down to the fact that at some point, longer flights are actually better than mid-length flights if well managed and actually help reduce the confusion of the internal body clock.
Can confirm: I've done SCL-SYD, LAX-HKG (continuing to BNE) and BNE-SFO. All of them are long undertakings but to my surprise I didn't have jetlag issues at all with any of them. I think it's basically a matter of ending up brutally exhausted after landing, so you end up falling asleep and ta-dah! You wake up the next morning like if nothing happened.
The longest I was on isn't a flight they do anymore. Heathrow to Lusaka was a 10hr overnight flight on a Boeing 767 in '06 and '07. The return journey was a daytime flight. The return journey in '07 was around 11hrs for me because we had to circle London for about an hour in a long queue for landing. It was a particularly busy day. I had to get the first train from Galway, where I was living at the time, to Dublin on Friday morning. Then Aer Lingus from Dublin to Heathrow. At Heathrow there was a change from terminal 1 to terminal 4 and a couple of hours to wait for the flight to Lusaka, arriving between 6 and 7am local time Saturday morning. So, altogether, I spent about 23 hours between getting on the train in Galway and arriving at Lusaka. Coming back in '06 was even longer because my flight from Heathrow to Dublin was cancelled but there were plenty seats on the last flight out of Heathrow to Dublin. I booked an overnight stay in Dublin for the return journey both times because the journey from Dublin Airport by bus or taxi wouldn't have got me to the last train to Galway on time. So I left Lusaka on a Saturday morning but didn't arrive back in Galway until Sunday afternoon.
I actually do that 4th Longest from London Gatwick to Mauritius most years, great holiday destination for me and got family & friends + a place out there too.
My longuest BA flight was in 2019 going from London Heathrow to Johannesburg in the a380. It was a great experience ! (And it still is my longuest flight to this day)
9:46 The longest BA flight I've flown was flight BA33/34 LHR-KUL vv (which is slightly shorter than LHR-SIN featured in the video). These routes are currently not in the network, suspended since the pandemic but I truly hope BA will reinstate it back soon. p/s I dreamt of BA reinstating LHR-KUL with a new tag-on to DPS with 5th freedom rights. Also, competing head-on with QF on LHR-PER and purchasing the same aircraft that QF is acquiring for Project Sunrise to compete with them on LHR-SYD and LHR-MEL.
I flew from London Gatwick to Lima Peru in July and August 2017 direct with a flight time around 12 hours. Unfortunately they don't do that route anymore.
The LHR-CPT flight is twice daily in the southern summer/northern winter and the A350-100 joins the B77-200ER on the route in summer to meet the increased capacity.
Great crew on BA, when we have flown from Cape Town to London the crew have been fantastic. On one trip, my wife a diabetic passed out. The crew and captain were fantastic. They contacted us after the flight to ensure my wife was ok. Great people. Sadly their.internal South African flights have stopped.
Was going to do BA LAX to LHR when i went to Europe last month than i thought let me check delta first and the ticket for them was 6,000 compared to 10,000 for BA wasn’t a very hard decision after i saw that
straight distance wise LHR to HND is 9615km which is just 30km short of LHR-CPT if taking in actual flying distance then it would be one of the longest direct BA flights currently operating
Hong Kong from LHR was one of the worst flights I’ve ever flown. You really forget how good the Asian and Middle Eastern airlines are until you experience some BA customer service It was the most cramped A380 seat I’ve ever seen. Not helped by a huge electrical box in the footwell. Spent 11hrs with both legs aimed 20 degrees to the left
254 - 262 is maximum a B777-300 ER operator should operate . . . the 300+ dense seating configuration (one or two classes having more seats than usual) on B777-300 ER should be dropped altogether, not just by BA but all B777-300 ER operators as well . . . as for the B777-200 ER that's a whole new story altogether & no one knows it better than Japanese operators of the B777-200 ER . . . B777-200 ER operators should stick to a maximum seating (dense configuration) capacity of no more than 306 seats . . . the B777-200 ER has always been & still is BA's workhorse for it's international long haul services, (after the B747-400 ofcourse) . . . however with time everything ages & so has the B777-200 ER . . . infact the B777-200 ER has aged gracefully, a saga that started way back in the early-mid 1990s . . . but now it needs to be replaced, starting with the oldest B777-200 ER airframe in BA's 777 fleet & logging the most flight hours . . . and speaking of apt replacement for the B777-200 ER what could be better than the B787-9 & B787-10 wide body jets . . .
Love to know how long the flight is in distance and time for BA London to Tokyo with the Russia flight restrictions. I never understood why BA has such a poor network to Asia, you would think flights to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul Taipei, Jakarta, Manila and many cities in China would all be no brainers. Especially with many of these being major tourist destinations or very major cities in Asia.
They used to have Bangkok, Lumpur, and Seoul but they got pulled when the pandemic struck. They had even introduced Osaka in late 2019, but the pandemic ruined everything. If I recall, they used to operate to Taipei using the brand “British Asia Airways” but that became defunct I think pre 2000s or early 2000s.
Without their inherited slot dominance no one rational would choose BA ad a result of the plummet in service, failure to spend on basics like IT, catering, customer service or even cleaning! #BeyondAbysmal and #BestAvoided
I only entered this forum to say that the worst aviation company in the world is "British Airways" and the second worst is "Iberia". Thank you "IAG group" for treating passengers like we are garbage.
I flew recently with BA to Tokyo, which is now 14hrs going and 15hrs return. As BA is not allowed to fly over Russia. Which fly’s over turkey and china going towards Japan and flys over the North Pole returning back to the UK.
Thanks for clarifying this.
I was just wondering about this route(s) when I first saw the map at the outset.
Same here
All flights from London to Japan now take 14-15 hours.

4:02 Did I hear 747-400ER?
I was under the impression that only Qantas ever operated those and they were created especially for them?
Longest flight for me on a British aircraft was BOAC 1965 Entebee Uganda London on a VC10.
A beautiful , quiet , smooth flight. The Chief Steward was a delightful older Cunard Ocean Liner Veteran. He and my parents had an interesting chat
before we tipped the seats back for a good nap. We had departed at about 1:20AM.
0:28 BA no longer fly to NRT, instead flying twice daily to HND, since the UK was allocated an extra daily slot pair there
Just flew Santiago to LHR. 787, in J. Very good flight, with great crew. Not sure about the ying/yang seating, but it served its purpose.

I took this flight early this month. Same jet lag non issue here.
The flight back was horrible just in that regard.

1:59 It is a 777-9 with GE9x

Is mentioned briefly in the video but thanks for clarifying!
I've done the LGW - CPT route on the 777. Good flight.
Interesting and BA15/16 is actually LHR🇬🇧-SYD🇦🇺 via SIN RAF Changi
1:57 isn't that the 777x
Yes it is

I flew SYD-LHR with 747 long time ago. Pre Covid I flew LHR-MCO with A380 and LHR-IAD
My longest flight with BA was London to San Francisco
I’ve done Heathrow-Santiago but it was closer to 14 hours 30 mins.
Was going to do BA LAX to LHR when i went to Europe last month than i thought let me check delta first and the ticket for them was 6,000 compared to 10,000 for BA wasn’t a very hard decision after i saw that
British Airways do have an Gatwick service to Cape Town but only winter seasonal
When i flew to Cape Town, it was an a380
They used to schedule them, but now they don't
My longest BA flight was from LHR-JHB it was about 12hrs on the A350-1000
Done the LGW-MRU flight before and it was hard going.
Booked it again with Emirates on a 380 stopping off it Dubai.
More civilised.
What about LHR to HKG?
Finnaly new air video on british airways my fav airline after oman air 😍
So the 380 are used mainly on high density transatlantic routes
I have always wondered why the 380 is not used on the routes to Australia?
My longest flight on BA is London - Miami back in 2008 on a B747-400
Heathrow To Lax, doesn't seem that long but it was still 10 ish hours
They should really just not include LHR to SYD when it already is one famous one. Mention a few that is rarely mentioned seems to be better
The 777-300er is actually business class heavy. Not premium economy
My longest flight was from Heathrow to sfo which was about 10 hours
Is it still expensive and more than other airways.
What about Heathrow to Tokyo?
and to Hong Kong?
straight distance wise LHR to HND is 9615km which is just 30km short of LHR-CPT
if taking in actual flying distance then it would be one of the longest direct BA flights currently operating
I used BA15 and BA16 and they used 777-336(ER) not the 787-9 Dreamliner
Booked man-lhr-scl july/august before i found this video.
Doing it in 1st due to ba Avios redemption.
My longest flight on BA was DFW-LHR. I refuse to take a flight longer than 10 hours.
Hong Kong from LHR was one of the worst flights I’ve ever flown. You really forget how good the Asian and Middle Eastern airlines are until you experience some BA customer service
It was the most cramped A380 seat I’ve ever seen. Not helped by a huge electrical box in the footwell. Spent 11hrs with both legs aimed 20 degrees to the left
But the BA28/29 31/32 to HKG...seems on the list as nearly 13 hours from Heathrow using 35K for 31/32,789 for 28/29😂
Hopeing to fly on the 6th july
British Airways has not operated to Cape Town since 1932 as the airline has only existed since 1974.

Wow. I'm wondering what's the longest flights with stops?
It’s to Sydney
LGW - YVR 10 hrs
LHR HKG on an A380!

7 hour 30 minute
Always annoyed when Simple Flying pronounce Changi as Chang-Gi. 🤣🤣🤣
We want this type of video on Air India ❤
I wish they would pronounce Changi properly. It's not Chan-gi. It's Chang-i (pronounced Chang-ee with the stress on the pure vowel at the end).
