Kudos to pilots and ATC management!
How many charges does wiz air have?
All went well, everyone safe, and the passengers of Transavia 4E even got to visit Rotterdam!
Luckily in the Netherlands everything is close by.
@@YSLaurens Don't tell the Germans...
@@YSLaurens From Rotterdam to Eindhoven is 1,5 hours of driving.
I don't call that close by. 😅😂
@@Dutch_Pancake I suppose it is for Americans
Communication is as close to perfect as I can imagine. Thank you, Vas!
You do a great job with these videos, thank you!!!!!
Thank you for watching
Exemplary MAYDAY call. It's noteworthy compared to American communications, which I hear most often, that the crew told the ATC what they were going to do, instead of ATC telling them how to handle their emergency. That is by the book.
Agreed, the communication between all involved parties was superb! They did an excellent job of accounting for any ambiguities (such as the clarifications on holding for fuel or landing) and ensuring that intended actions were always known and accounted for (such as telling the other landing plane to stop climbing at 2k on a missed approach, because the mayday plane was at 3k).
The ATC immediately said 'Let me know the information when possible' :)
"Mayday, hello" XD
This is a masterclass.
Eventually the a/c stayed there 3days extra and affected engine was replaced at EIN.
Sounds like textbook work. Thanks for sharing the find, V!
I remember randomly bumping into this live on Flightradar24.
Absolute spot-on from both parties!
I flew into eheh the day after! had no idea about this one. Well handled by everyone!
The difference between American comms and this is unreal. Why are American aviators so unwilling to declare an emergency?
And insistent on not using the FAA procedure.
Someone will say it’s because English is their primary language and so they’re able to shorten phrases. However, this doesn’t happen anywhere else in native English countries / airspaces.
Do you wanna cover the incident in Korea recently where a passenger opened the emergency exit mid-flight?
"Midfight"… it happened shortly before landing and the aircraft didn’t even go-around.
Quite impossible at cruising altitudes to open an emergency exit door.
@@jamesjarrait2231 Correct but it didn't happen at cruising alt
Thank you very much!🙂👍
Enthusiast, not a pilot - so don’t bite my head off… is there a reason for this aircraft to sit blocking a full runway? You’ve got one fully functional engine, why can’t they get clear to allow other aircraft to land?
Also, how long had the Transavia been holding prior to WizzAir’s incident? Maybe it’s the editing but the whole incident seemed to be resolved really quite quickly, WizzAir didn’t seem to be holding for long, so why was the Transavia so close to their divert fuel?
The communication from everyone sounded very clear, very professional. It just seems odd to shut a runway for immediate inspection for a potential compressor stall and no mention of fire indication, rather than just taxi clear.
engine surge so better to let it be checked at the runway
You have a clock at the top left corner for time reference
I agree...he should have vacated the runway, since there was no longer an emergency
You don't know their reasons to stop. They did as they should
They were not entirely sure why the engine stopped working.
While it can be something rather minor that caused that, it is also possible that the engine sustained damage and that the full extend of the damage only manifests once there is no more airflow through the engine. A condition that could even start a fire, depending on what happened to the engine. Also it could be a bent or partially ruptured blade that causes an engine to stall. In that case the continous force on the blade might tear it off and damage the engine further.
So they go for the approach of rather being safe than sorry and have it shut down and have it inspected as soon as possible.
The tower controller reminds me of Tony Beets!
😀
The good: Acknowledge and stand by; clear all VFR traffic in terminal area. The rest would take paragraphs.
Transavia should stop saving on fuel......
Trans save ya
Looked it up on Flight radar 24. They did 2 turns in the hold. It was a wet leased A320 from Avion Air. Obviously they did not bring enough fuel with them. Two turns in the hold is about 40 miles tops.
@@glennkamers Avion Express is always sketchy
Normally you do not take extra fuel for these highly unusual runway closures. If somethin like this happens you divert, which is exactly what they did.
@@AviationChannel27 30-45 minutes of holding fuel should be on board of every airliner.
Did TRA4E refueled and came back to Eindhoven or dropped all pax at Rotterdam?
Refueled and flew back
What is it with 4439 being an emergency aircraft? Brickyard 4439 was that aircraft with the "trim runaway" in ATL a few years back that was just a switch mounted upside down. Now Wizz Air 4439 is another emergency?
Interesting that they bark light aircraft out of the airspace but allow Transavia in.
If that Transavia blows a tire on landing, the emergency would have to divert...
Also stopping on the runway after a surge; if there is no fire warning, just shut it down and move on. But it may be company policy....
Makes USA comms sound like student pilots...
Was there a request for the usual "Souls on board and fuel remaining"? I listened twice and did not hear it. Just wondering if this is required for a "Mayday" or optional depending on the situation.
Not America. Not part of the process.
No need to. The aircraft just departed. The controllers know how much fuel they have and how many pob.
We have to declare it in the flight plan in the Netherlands
Does anyone else realise they don't immediately ask for souls on board like the Muricanos do?
where's the south korean open door while landing atc voice? I'm dying over here u know
How can I gain access ATC recordings?
LiveATC
Look out now.
Well done for most of the process, but I'd love to know what aspect of this particular engine failure warranted stopping on the runway and not take one of the exits to keep the airport open.
It seems they were unsure if it was simply an unproblematic surge of if there was some heat damage, fire damage, leaks, etc. Like you better know of a leak asap before going all around the airport with something dripping.
Moreover on the runway there is plenty of room for the emergency vehicles. On the taxiways there is not.
Wheres the squawk code?
At least ask them if they can vacate and hold. If it's a no then divert the other guy.
Always makes me cringe if I hear Dutch people speaking English like this. xD
(I'm Dutch too.)
It always makes me cringe when I hear Dutch people complain about Dutch people having a Dutch accent when speaking English. (I'm Dutch too).
Actually lol 😂 (English person who just became Dutch and speaks Dinglish most of the time)
Once again they will be delayed. As always! #wizzair
Are the PH*** callsigns military?
Negative
general aviation, those are the registration numbers of the planes
I thought it would be funny if PH-COP is a police chopper since they often use the callsign POLICE0* but apparently they are PH-PX*
@@dutchr4zor the PHCOP was previously a police plane but unnecessary so they sold it to our club in Eindhoven. I've flown it many times. It's a Socata Tobago TB10. Terrible climb performance.
that diversion couldve been avoided with better communication between ATC
Madam! She sounds too young to be a Madam.
Even the French are trying to drop the Mam'selle now. 😅
It's just to be respectful
Yea definitely a translation thing for non native English speaker. Just trying to be professional and neutral. Suppose they also assumed her gender which isn't really allowed these days haha😂
Anyone else feel that this emergency was unwarranted? The engine was idling normally and the pilot was having no handling issues, nothing was on fire, everything else was working...
Seriously? An engine failure on a twin jet is an emergency. The fact the engine will still idle does not mean it can be relied on for power. So if the other engine fails then you may or may not make it back to the airport on an engine that has already shown it is faulty. The idling engine will run the hydraulic pump and generator though, so it means landing with all hydraulics and electrics still operational. Being able to land a crippled plane does not mean it wasn't an emergency in the first place.
If my plane had an engine shutoff during start and my pilot would decide „yep, just about what I would expect“ I would have serious issues with this judgement! Also different airlines have differend codes of conduct about these types of incidents. Maybe a PANPANPAN would have been enough, however it would have not changed much, how the ATC would have handled the situation, so in my oppinion this was a great example how such a situation SHOULD be handled!
I don't think that's a good mindset. You don't know when it will get more problem and worsen the situation.
"Special people" like you cause deaths of people. Wizz pilot didn't have the same brain damage issue thankfully
There was an incident with a BAW 747-436 that continued with one engine off to their destination - 6 hours farther, including a transatlantic crossing! I suspect the pilot was z33511 😉
