Don't get me wrong, I love a good Drop E 0-0-1-0 riff but I find it's often quite muddy and undefined compared to that tightness and melody you can really hear in tunings like Drop C# and Drop D.
I also find playing a 6 string more pleasing for me personally. I have 7 string that I sometimes play in G# standard, but I always find myself spending more time playing in D# standard or Drop C# with my 6 string.

      Yeah very funny ha ha.
Riffs still do exist today, in fact they are even more powerful and heavier than ever before, since a 7-string or even 8-string guitar creates much more powerful riffs than a standard 6 string guitar
And there are still Melodic Metalcore bands today too, in fact even "Ambient" or *"a t m o s p h e r I c"* Metalcore, which lifts the sound to a much higher Level than ever before.
Just because you don't know good examples today, doesn't mean they don't exist. It just means you didn't dig deep enough.
Granted, they are not easy to find because they are more in the underground scene, but they do exist.

that's just your own personal preference then, but I (and many others) like heavy and groovy Metallic riifs, so there's nothing wrong with that.
I don't know what band you're talking about exactly but if hey tuned higher than E standard? then it would be hardy Metal at that point, if at all.
I guess at that point it's more of a Progressive Rock rather than actually Metal.
Again, not knowing who the band is I can only draw some vague conclusions

First of all, one thing does not have to exclude the other thing.
The 2000's had riffs AND goove at the same time and so does metal bands still today. Of course it always depends what specific bands we're tanking about because bands have very different style, but riffs still do exist today in metal music and groovy too (and even melodies, I know crazy right) you just need to dig deeper.
And to the other guy talking shit about nu metal: Nu-metal is actually one of the best modern Metal genres it has heavy and powerful metal riffs with Groovey and rhythmically drumming beats and powerful heavy vocals with breakdowns and some pop elements to make it more catchy and interesting. What more could you want?
Second, the Metal today is nothing like the nu metal from the 2000's, it's very different so your statement doesn't make any sense
Not everything that has heavy metal riffs with pop elements is automatically nu metal.
The metal today is just a very different typ of its own and it's not all bad. There are still very good examples of modern metal bands today, just because you don't know aby doesn't mean they don't exist.
It just means that you don't know much about modern metal Music or you just didn't dig deep enough

    • @RockandMetal-u9x
      @RockandMetal-u9x 2 месяца назад

You opinion is irrelevant, Nu-Metal is one of the best Metal genre that ever existed that's a fact (together with Metalcore and Symphonic metal) it helped to make metal music more dynamic and more interesting and more catchy than ever before.
Nu-Metal had the same impact like Grunge did for Rock music.
Without it rock and metal would still be boring 80's shit.
It's good that metal evolved and progressed instead of rotting away
Black Metal is by far the worst, it's very monotonic and boring wall of noise, no meloics or emotions, only screaming, no changes in rhythmics or patterns (rhytm don't even exist in black metal to begin with) and it has no Groove because again no rhythm, just a blunt wall of noise.
It's like flushing the toilet or turning on my vacuum cleaner which makes the same annoying noise lol
I can't even take you serious dude 😂

@@tsk3884 I get what you mean, people usually prefer what they grew up with as it creates emotions, feelngs and memories of the past times they are familiar (nostalgia)
I was born in the 90's and grew up with the 90's and 2000's music mostly, although I didn't even know many Rock or Metal bands at that time because in our country (Germany) Rock was not really Mainstream anymore, only generic POP and Hip Hop was Mainstream 90% of the time.
Although there were a few rare exeptions such as Rammstein, Linkin Park, System of a Down, Bullet For My Valentine, but those were only the rare exceptions (less than 10% of the total Mainstream)
So I was very happy when in 2006 RUclips came along and gave us the possibility to find new Rock and Metal bands outside the Mainstream.
I literally discovered 99% of my most favorite Rock and Metal bands from the Internet, mostly modern era bands (2000+)
I still remember chilling in my room in 2006 at the age of 15 years, jamming to amazing Rock bands I just discovered that day by accident...
literally my entire life changed from that day on, I was obsessed with it for years to come
Personally I like the modern 2000+ music more, it has more complex structure, it's deeper and more diverse, with more emotional range and more vocal range and can be a lot more energetic and intensive than compared to the older stuff from the pre-90's
There are so many new sub-genres today that didn't even exist before the 90's (Grunge, Post-Grunge, Nu-Metal, Symphonic Metal, Metalcore, Post-Hardcore, Pop Punk) these are all my most favorite sub-genres, which is probably the reason why I'm not so much interested into the 80's music because it was missing the genres I like the most today

The "classic" Metal bands from the 70's sound more like generic Rock bands for modern standards; simple and easy Rock riffs, simple structure, simple drumming patterns (nothing too crazy or exessive like today)
Thrash Metal and Death Metal in the 1980's was the first real thing that can be recognized as actually "Heavy Metal" music, with lots of excessive drumming (blasting beats) using double-kick bass drums and more aggressive style overall.
Anything before the 1980's was just too soft, too slow and too calm to be considered Heavy Metal music LoL
