Since the string spacing does not change when skipping the lowest cross, it seems unlikely that the spin will be much affected unless you hit close to the bottom of the frame (so not *really * a 16x19 experience).
@@mathiaswestlund8403 We are in agreement. I do not believe that missing the lowest cross somehow creates a 16x19 racquet from a 16x20 frame, which the video implies.
@@brunis_m I found this the only way to keep using my SV95 which lacked spin. Pocketing improved as well but some sticks really need proper open pattern 16x19 and maybe Im wrong but Jonas hitting better with the mistake version at the end. Now would love to see Thiem testing this softer version which is likely to help his wrist?
The game has changed. Thicker frames and 98/100 head sizes (generally stiffer as well) are all the rage now because they better align, generally speaking, with what works for the modern mechanics of the game and it's increased physicality and power/spin etc. I'd say this largely applies to younger gens on tour and younger non pro players of a highish level. I think there are also benefits for older players in the form of increased forgivness, which is a big deal. I get it though. If you're used to way smaller head sizes and more flexible beams etc that are all about precision and a plush feel the modern rackets are going to not feel great (doesn't mean you couldn't get used to it if you wanted to). Its an adjustment that's for sure. It's not even necessarily an adjustment you personally need to make if you can source rackets that you like still.
Is this racket similar to the 2016 babolat pure aero vs? What I liked about that racket is that it had a thin beam but it had the babolat throat. This has a thin one.
I've played 4 hours now with the Pure Strike VS. First two hours with MSV Focus Hex 1.23 Red and yesterday two hours with Luxilon Vibe 1.25, both around 23kg. First things first, this frame design is excellent for one-handed backhands. I haven't been able to dial-in with the slices yet, but that's on me - with some other rackets slices seem very easy like Pro Kennex Q+ Tour Pro, Angell TC95 V3 16*19 and Diadem Nova FS100. On the forehand side, one has to use very fast rackethead speed to get depth. It's not as underpowered as the Tecnifibre TF40 315 16*19, but it's less powerful than the Diadem Elevate V2 FS98. The Pure Strike VS with its tight 16*20 string pattern is great for flat hitting from the baseline. From the midcourt it's very whippy, but got better topspin from the Focus Hex than the Vibe. On the serves, the 2nd/slice serves are super easy to hit. Flat need very fast rackethead speed, as do the flat forehands. First impressions are very encouraging for me to keep it as my main stick. Some say it needs some added weight at 3 and 9, but that's too personal to judge, especially after only 4 hours.
Jonas, there is not a person in the world who strings racquets that has not made a simple mistake, don't beat yourself up too much. Really easy to fix, Cut them out & start again :D
Hi Jonas, nice review! That’s very interesting with 1619 and 1620 stringing. How would you prefer these new racquets, new ezone 98 or new pure strike vs?
The beam profile seams like the Textreme Tour, 95 or the Twistpower 97, I mean kind of the same recipe : a elliptic throat for power and stability and a boxbeamish head for control and feel. It's a superbe combination but think I prefer the other way around ( box throat, elliptic head like in my Equipe 95 LB or the new Head Boom as it seems... ) The regular Strike also flexes in throat but I never really liked the feel as it is a full elliptic construction. The feedback of a boxbeam is very distinct and unique, it's actually not really about the softness but the way it bends ( the box throat of my Equipe is stiff but still provide superbe feel )
I've become allergic to Babolat. In my neck of the woods it's like every rando with a beer belly, knee pads and a waiter's serve is sporting a Babolat stick, while loudly complaining about his sore elbow and how it's probably a sign of him hitting harder and getting better 😆
Maybe inexperienced players tend to go for the more well known brands or they like the feel of the Bobolats? I'm getting back into tennis after many years away and I tried many different rackets and opted for the Strike and have no regrets. I've never heard anyone at my club claiming an injury is a result of them getting better usually it's an admission that they've done something stupid. From what I can tell, bad technique is a much bigger cause of injuries than racket choice.
Can you explain how missing the last cross affects play? I wouldn’t think it would do much as it’s so low down you never hit it… I’m playing with 16 20 so would like to try it out
I missed a cross once also, and honestly speaking, I don't feel there's much difference. You don't hit that area, and the frame won't really deform to change tension of string where ball lands
And yet they are infinitely better than when they started. I agree, they are too stiff, but I played with the original pure drive, and hitting the ball felt like hitting baseballs off center with a metal bat. Whether you were clean or not. I'm also certain that racquet is the reason I have so many elbow problems to this day.
How would you compare it to the head 345.2? I’m looking for a replacement for the pure strike 16/19 with less power, lower SW, same stability and same spin potential. Thx in advance✌🏻
Hey TennisNerd how does this compare to something like the Ultra Pro line from Wilson. I assume it’s a bit more powerful since you compared to the PS97?
Is this still a slightly rounded box-beam like the Pure Control/Pure Storm/PS VS previous version? It looks different now but maybe the picture is misleading me.
Thanks for the heads up but I'm not sure what Babolat are trying to do with this frame.....Last year's Pure Strike was a great players stick and strung with a low tension 20 had plenty of comfort, spin and power for me and the control was superb.....but I still preferred the early gens(3) which were crisper on striking.
I think babolat gets a lot of flak from people who don't like babolats or people who prefer the more flexible, less powerful archetype of rackets, and so they're trying to appeal to that market a little bit. Conversely for those who do like what babolat does, it may seem a bit off putting.
I have my 2014 pure strike 16x19 and its my favorite racquette ever the way it looks too... but I need a new racket now and I think I'm going with this
I disagree, I played with the 16x19 and it was too brittle feeling and too light in general, no feel, and eventually hurt my wrist/elbow from the jarring effects of occasional off-center shots. This VS doesn't have any of those issues and it's much more soft and precise, better feel. It can do it all really as long as you add some weight to the hoop.
Complete BS that skipping the last cross would impact the amount of spin. Come on. Ok you screwed up, why not take the opportunity to compare what the last cross actually gives you? Spin! No.
Trevlig ton. A more open string bed creates more "spin potential". The racquet did get a higher launch angle and a more lively feel. It doesn't mean your shots actually have more spin without you doing anything though.
Since the string spacing does not change when skipping the lowest cross, it seems unlikely that the spin will be much affected unless you hit close to the bottom of the frame (so not *really * a 16x19 experience).
Please explain this. The missing cross doesn’t effects the space between the strings in the sweetspot.

I played with the pure storm ltd gt back in the day. So glad babolat is bringing back a control oriented line. Hope its soft on the arm!
I still play with a ltd! I'm down to my last one, so I'm thinking of upgrading to this.
Loved the pure control. This looks like a modern version of it. Might try one out
I grew up playing a high level in the 90s. Never understood the thick frames and 100+ sq inch heads.
Agassi and Michael Chang are just 2 on the top of my head that played with such specs in the 90s
I get it but I think it's over marketed a bit.
Oversize racquets were more in 90s then now, now all wants the 98 sq inches
Try ‘em out!
