The interesting thing about this street fight is that it shows that, as powerful as he was, Tommy was not on the same level as Rocky's other rivals. Although taken advantage of and not really thinking for himself the dude is a true fighter. Didn’t care about the ring
I've talked to alot of people that say they did not like Rocky 5. I thought this film was fantastic! Sure, it didn't live up to the action film that Rocky 4 was, and was a little slower, but the story was great! Rocky was forced to come back down to earth and go back to his roots and teach his son how to survive the street life that he himself had to live in the past, at the same time, carry on Mickey's legacy and teach a new fighter the politics of the business and what to be cautious of and when to recognize a scam, while protecting him at the same time. I don't know why people don't like this film, but it was fantastic as far a I'm concerned
I liked it. I just liked the first 4 Rocky movies MUCH better. But Stallone does some good things here. I DO wish he had remained with a musical score that was more in keeping with the tone of the previous films. The urban style of music didn't really feel like a Rocky movie. But the cast-as always-was outstanding. Stallone, Shire, Young...they are all perfect at their roles. By any other standard, this is a good movie. Like I said...I just like the others better.
I think most of the outrage with this movie is mostly comparing to the first 4. There just seems to be a lot of inconsistency with characters and motivations in the movie, in my eyes. The biggest issue I had was with Duke. Like, I get he wanted Rocky to fight because that was a big money-maker for him, but considering it looked like he was going to make just as much off of Tommy teamed up with Rocky to take on Union Cane. It seemed like they were trying way too hard to make Duke-- and by extension, Tommy-- the villain of the movie. If this was its own movie, I would be much more forgiving of it, and probably even like it, and maybe that's why a lot of people like it. Being it's a Rocky movie though is ultimately why I was disappointed. And no, Rocky retiring wasn't a problem. It was understandable. Drago practically destroyed his brain. But let me put it this way: Creed IMO is what this movie should've been. That all being said, this movie is Oscar-worthy compared to a lot of recent crap that has been coming out; especially from Disney.
@@jadenmuniz8817 Well most of my bad-mouthing of Disney is with their live-action remake phase they're going through. Most of their original stuff I definitely appreciate. I didn't mean that all Disney movies were bad. And even if I did, that's not your problem. If you like Disney movies, that's perfectly fine. Opinions are opinions, and in countries like the United States, (my home country) the First Amendment Right to Freedom of Speech/Religion gives you a right to have any opinion you want about anything.
At 4:03 when we catch some quick visions of Mickey, then showing his eyes, like he's there watching it go down; I get goosebumps EVERY TIME, such a good moment!
Rocky would have died without his wife or kids present. If this was a private area then Tommy would have killed him. Rocky V’s original ending was to have Tommy kill Rocky.
Tommy Gunn's actor in this movie is Tommy Morrison, he was a real life boxer on his way up and he actually fucked his life up by sleeping with countless women contracting HIV. Had to retire, got addicted to drugs, went to prison for a bit, still addicted to drugs, got pec implants, died from AIDS almost ten years ago.
so much real life tragedy surrounded this film and came through in it, especially considering Sage as well (RIP). No wonder Stallone would rather pretend it doesn't exist, it's probably just too painful
I always feel bad for Sage Stallone. It is like he was never born, and Stallone fawns over his three daughters. Sage, you will never be forgotten. You were the hero in Rocky V.
"Get up, because Mickey loves ya." Sure, it's a corny line, but Burgess Meredith was such a fine actor, and because the audience was so invested in Rocky and Mickey's characters, that it pulled everyone in. Cliche or not, this was one badass scene, and the cinematography (where Rocky has his flashbacks--lightning cuts, blood running in an almost Expressionistic way) was exceptional. Combine that with the music...winning!
All of Tommy’s managers random screams of rahhhhhhhhh during the fight are hilarious 😂😂😂 “fight back you bum fight back!!!”also the shaky zoom ins to his son 😂 so cheesy I love it
Rocky will always be with us all. Rocky never quit and always took the shots. He was a street fighter that alway had the heart to win. And that’s the Rocky we love.
When Rocky was knocked down, and lying in the street and hearing Micky's voice, he was actually feeling that he was about to be killed at the hands of Tommy, like Apollo was killed at the hands of Drago. He was about to give up, and accept that his time had come, and just slip into unconsciousness and die right there in Paulie's arms, but Mickey gave him the strength to survive and he found the courage to get up, and fight for his life!
@@castortroy7704 Yeah for sure. It's pretty bad when Tommy's Manager Duke told Tommy over and over that fighting Rocky in a street fight was a terrible idea and he wouldn't win lol.

The one thing people can all agree, whether they like or dislike Rocky 5, the street brawl is one of the best moments in the Rocky franchise. I have yet to find anyone who legit didn’t like this scene, at least without a proper reason.
Agreed. And this movie as a whole isn’t half bad. It’s just not as good as the others and there’s some legit silliness. I mean, i never felt Tommy was much of a threat to Rocky if Rocky had gone through with the legitimate fight. The guy beat Ivan freaking Drago for crying out loud! The satisfaction in this fight is not so much about him overcoming the odds, but more along the lines of a delivering a well deserved beat down.
@@abehambino yeah, this movie lost some slight credibility in the beginning because of the writing. No way Adrian allows them to fall into financial issues , even if that happened ,no way does rocky not get a sponsorship after beating Ivan lol overall I enjoyed the movie but the inconsistencies with the writing was a bit much compared to other Rocky films
@@castortroy7704yeah. Tommy was a lot like Rocky except for one thing. He didn’t have Rocky’s heart. He didn’t care about anyone else. Tommy only cared about himself and going to the top.
lot of people don’t like Rocky 5, but i do. it makes a change watching Rocky fight in a street fight. This is how Rocky live through the years fighting in the streets getting stronger it isn’t always about the ring so it’s cool to see a different fight.
I remember when my parents went to the movies together to watch this while I was at my grandmother's house. I grew up watching Rocky 4 all the time as a kid and I asked them what they thought of Rocky 5 and they both said it was a good ending to the series. It must have really felt like the end
As criticizes this movie was I still enjoy it! It was the first time we actually seen Rocky fight outside of the Ring in the streets. Boxing is a unique skill that shines when it's protected in the ring. Fighting in the streets is something completely different and requires a completely different mindset.
Firstly: Sly looks irresistible in this scene. Secondly: great end with Rocky fighting from where everything started (the street) which is a double message to read in the story. Everything goes back to the beginning, to the roots of the character. I love it. Fan of Rocky ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can watch the flashback of Mickey over and over, especially where he does that abrupt glance down. I guess Mickey knew Rocky was in trouble, and encouraged him to snap out of it.
When Rocky gets knocked down by Tommy, I always thought it was silly at first the flashbacks and stuff, but know watching it as an adult I like it. It’s just flashbacks from his fight with drago which clearly did or did the most of his brain damage and which fight he was probably most bothered by.
Rocky embodies the spirit of man which is all about mission and purpose. Doing what needs to be done even though everyone fears for you and wishes you weren't doing it.
From the SOUL, I feel very badly about what happened to Sage. He was a great actor, and, I'm sure, a very nice person. He was definitely too young to pass away. I'm a fan.
Some people don't like the fifth movie....i honestly enjoyed all of the Rocky films including this one..perfect ending because it showed that Rocky is not always a sports film series 100%..its more than just that

@@SuperHitman55 I have Tommy lasting eight or nine rounds because I consider him to be somewhat better than the various contenders whom Rocky beat to defend his title between Rocky II and Rocky III and Rocky III and Rocky IV (a.k.a., fighters not up to the level of Apollo, Clubber, or Drago). I also have Rocky knocking out Clubber in the 11th round during their first fight if Rocky had simply trained for Clubber as hard as he did for Apollo and Drago.
Stallone and the whole rocky series. Even if he only did this movie and nothing more would still be one of my favs. The bound between Rock and Pauly even after the stuff they’ve been through at the beginning. All Rocky really had, there in a heart beat to defend family

This Rocky old middle aged, brain damaged, untrained and far past his prime still mopped the floor with Tommy in a bare knuckle street fight despite Tommy gaining the upper hand in the first half of the fight only by sucker punching Rocky from behind after Rocky floored Tommy easily head on. Yes, Rocky in his prime would've obliterated Tommy Gunn in seconds fighting dirty regardless. Tommy was very strong, resilient and a very skilled, capable boxer and a fairly good, experienced street brawler from the streets of Oklahoma but easy work to a pro street fighter like Rocky or all of Rocky's past opponents. Tommy was tough but far out of his league against Rocky.
After reaching the pinnacle of boxing and being still doubted because the previous champ retired would do numbers on a guy that thinks he’s the best. He’s a fighter not scared to fight. @@tgran1258 This happened to Karpov in chess and he did fine.
@@nascarfanatic2425Hey please respect people like me. I love Disney!
I thought Rocky 5 was fantastic as well, I don't know what they're talking about.
Rocky taught Tommy his final lesson: Street Fighting 101.
@k you saying that rocky should have died?
The flashbacks with Mickey and Drago get me every time!
The same thing happened in creed (2015) whenever Adonis was knocked down and a flashback shown of Apollo made him get up and keep fighting!
Cause Mickey loves ya
Tommy Gunn's actor in this movie is Tommy Morrison, he was a real life boxer on his way up and he actually fucked his life up by sleeping with countless women contracting HIV. Had to retire, got addicted to drugs, went to prison for a bit, still addicted to drugs, got pec implants, died from AIDS almost ten years ago.
so much real life tragedy surrounded this film and came through in it, especially considering Sage as well (RIP). No wonder Stallone would rather pretend it doesn't exist, it's probably just too painful

"Get up, because Mickey loves ya." Sure, it's a corny line, but Burgess Meredith was such a fine actor, and because the audience was so invested in Rocky and Mickey's characters, that it pulled everyone in. "Snap - Keep It Up" playing in the background is just 👌👌👌
When Rocky was knocked down, and lying in the street and hearing Micky's voice, he was actually feeling that he was about to be killed at the hands of Tommy, like Apollo was killed at the hands of Drago. He was about to give up, and accept that his time had come, and just slip into unconsciousness and die right there in Paulie's arms, but Mickey gave him the strength to survive and he found the courage to get up, and fight for his life!

The one thing people can all agree, whether they like or dislike Rocky 5, the street brawl is one of the best moments in the Rocky franchise. I have yet to find anyone who legit didn’t like this scene, at least without a proper reason.
True
When Rocky gets knocked down by Tommy, I always thought it was silly at first the flashbacks and stuff, but know watching it as an adult I like it. It’s just flashbacks from his fight with drago which clearly did or did the most of his brain damage and which fight he was probably most bothered by.
