3D scanning should NOT be the difficult for first time users. Thanks for the review

I think it's probably very early in its maturity, throw enough processing power and AI and give it ten years....maybe. who knows!

@@LostInTech3D It´s just the tool you used is a low tech cosumer grade chinese something. I have used scanners which cost 250k+ they are a lot better.
However you are much better off simply using photogrammetry.

@@sierraecho884 I do actually. I work for a company creating and writing the software for 3D scanners.

I whole heartedly think that companies are purposely making it seem more difficult than it actually is to get ppl to pay for the “services”. Our technology (phones and personal computers) is plenty powerful to handle this.

Honestly a super cool video on your first venture into 3D scanning. The plushie scan and then print was very impressive. The coolest part of this compared to other scanners is the color camera. Having the actual image of the part automatically textured onto the 3D mesh is really nice. Definitely some skill involved!

I think given time, interest and maturity of the hardware and software, 3D scanning will become easy and an everyday thing.

i got the pop2, tracking and performance is horrible. marker dots never worked its just the smaller version of the range.
they could have made both devices into one by making the cameras focus adjustable and some slider mechanism that slides the cameras further apart.
but once you fiddle around for quite a while and do some major cleanup in blender afterwards it gives great results.
would have gone with einstar if they didnt released revoscan 5, some things improved but they also took out a few things like auto-exposure on the depth cameras.
but its accurate, before calibration i had deviations of 0.5mm on parts, after calibrating it went down to 0.1..0.2mm quite useable for CAD.

Dry shampoo is usually something like fine rice flour. At least that what's in that can of Baptiste that you used. The rice absorbs the grease on your head, so it doesn't stay white, and then it can be taken away (partly) by water.

If you have a newer Iphone, you can use that to 3d scan things..... I still gotta try it out on my wife's Iphone 14.

So... how good the scale accuracy is? It doesn't know but if you scale the model using one known measurement, so you get any other out of the model?
The finished models resemble those objects from urban decay games ;) Rusty and falling apart, but recognizable.

According SuperFastMat channel, the scanning is easier if you spray it with baby powder + IPO. When alcohol evaporates it leaves white dust that is easily removed

I think the biggest use for 3D scanning is making your prints print preexisting stuff with complex geometry, that would be hard to model in CAD

Yeah, basically. Or if you want to spend a lot of time editing the mesh, etc.

I liked the video but I didn't much like the scanner, all of these types of scanner have the same problems with too dark (and too shiny) surfaces.

Considering what you can do with Meshroom and a simple camera, it's a really hard pass for me.
I love the technology behind this 3d scanner tho, but for a first time user ? Nahhh ... too expensive, too little results..

Nice video, seems like something fun to try out. A little of topic, is it possible to write a Gcode to have the hotend drop to 100c and retract 200mm? I tried, M109 100 and then G1 E-200.0 F1200. The retract works but wont cool down first. Is here a way to trick the printer to wait for the hotend to cool down before the retract?

    • @LostInTech3D
      @LostInTech3D  Год назад

I think gcode sometimes just carries on, m109 should certainly work if you have the syntax right, I think it's m109 s100 but remember that the extruder also won't typically work at 100c, that's another setting....min extruder temp or something...
I feel like setting the temp first, then issuing the wait command, might work better.
One place to look for working syntax would be the tool change code on any idex printer, where they do this every time the hotend switches over
