Modding used to be a lot harder. Nowadays you have these nifty mod managers that have functions like auto-sort and allow you to easily remove mods without breaking anything, but back in the day modding often meant overwriting files, and if you got the order wrong, you had to scratch everything and start to install all your mods again. Worst case, you might even had to reinstall the game. I could never get deadly reflex to work in oblivion.

Modding was such a time sink. You're definitely right about it being an oddly enjoyable process.
It got to a wierd point where I would finish setting up the mods, I'd then play it for an hour or so, but I would be thinking about what else I could add to the game. Until I said "...ugh, these Mudcrabs aren't nearly sweary enough. And they look absolutely ridiculous without a monocle and top hat!"

I have done a lot of different playthroughs with different mod setups and the more times I did it, the less time I actually spend playing the game itself. About #3, it's not just modding specifically Skyrim that is tedious and time consuming, it's modding ANY game. I used to make custom maps for half life and quake, and it took FOREVER to make them even close to decent and playable. Not to mention getting everything to work right, and then trying to balance the difficulty and enemy and item placement. I spent hundreds of hours making my series of levels, and I think they came out great and love to play them. However, some of my friends who have played them said they suck and hated them. I made them mainly for my own sake. But the amount of time and effort I put into those maps was rediculous. I salute game developers for their hard work, and understand that making games is not all that fun most of the time.

As a founder of a very old, HIGHLY successful and active Destiny 2 clan, I can confirm that sometimes it does get a bit stressful, the worst part is when there is drama amongst members, it's pathetic, it's something you don't wanna deal with, but need to in order to show that you care, even though you actually think having drama in a game is ridiculous, it's worse yet when it's between admin. It's also a full time job, especially when, like myself you're in the top 1 percent of players, and a leading Sherpa player, so there are expectations. HOWEVER, the pay off outweighs the negatives astronomically, always having solid friends to play with, people you can bank on when things get tense in a raid, or when you need someone patient to lean on and pick up some slack while teaching new raiders how things work, or even just setting up silly events, like soccer games, Halloween costume contests, raid races, etc etc, and I'll never get tired of the way people count on me and come to me for advice, or confidence either in-game or out. It truly is an amazing feeling.

Probably never went beyond 200 mods on a game but 100-150 is quite common for me. It feels like the game before the game where you get to build it up to be as awesome as you want it to be. Slightly worried about modding these days though, I haven't done any heavy modding to a game since the whole nexus fiasco with the creators leaving. I've been to Disney World a few times, and we drove each time, about 14 hour drive from North Carolina to Florida, and there was always at least one traffic jam each time. It's wild to me that some people do that in a game by choice

Never used too, but recently i’ve been cranking the difficulties of any games i’ve been playing in the last year or so, i think its got me a lot more of out experiences by really having to learn the mechanics to survive

I am the opposite. Nowadays I have much less time. So to reach the end of games I quit playing on hardest mode :D and play only on "normal" or "hard"...

I totally agree with falcon I play games to progress, relax and to experience the story without having to fight extremely hard to do so. I'd feel like I wasted what limited free time I have if I spent the last hour or so dying and repeating. If I wanted to be stressed out I'd just wake up in the morning.

The saddest part of modding is when you come back to your favorite game, maybe it's old or been out a while or whatever. But your mods you used when you really committed to play might be out of date or there was a game update and or a mod became abandoned, so you're not able to come back to that original bliss of everything working right. Granted you could change game versions or whatever but if you're like me and forget to and there like 10 new versions since you stopped playing - it can be truly tragic lol

I knew that the simulation games would be on here. No sane person should want to spend 18 hours, in real time, driving or flying across the country, and yet people do it. Not me, damn sure not me, I would need a very real paycheck for that.

I used to play blues with this middle aged guy who played the harmonica and he was fascinated with planes. I could pretend for half an hour to be interested in him playing the simulator.
My dad once talked to him at a gig. When he found out my dad works at the airport he got so nerdy, my dad had to stop coming to our blues gigs lmao

I also felt the Guild Leader one before in Guild Wars 2. Having to constantly be on to defend in WvW Stonemist Castle. That was stressful when you always have to lead and give orders.

I will never be convinced that the headless aren't the most boring, useless, unimaginative, and overall shite boss in the entire From Software line of games. Would genuinely love to hear the devs thinking behind them. They aren't even satisfying once you beat them.

How is killing optional bosses stressful? I mean, to some degree yes, in be stressful. But people who are into these hard fights usually do them to show their competence in the game. We do it for the challenge most of the time. I do at any rate. If it was just for an item I probably wouldn't be as into it.

    1. Walk to Mojave Outpost from Crimson Caravan Company in FNV, like, no running unless in combat. Also no fast travel and hardcore mode always on
    2. Only collecting daily driver or pretty common sports cars in Forza Horizon games, no hypercars, concept cars, one-off cars, no engine swaps. And also no wrecking stuff unless it's inside events

I was a Fuel Rat in Elite Dangerous, which we pretty much just go out in ships carrying nothing but shit tons of fuel to save people who were either not paying attention to the stars they were jumping to and whether or not they could "scoop" fuel from said star, or people who tried cutting it too close and had calculations off. It was kinda irritating when someone was just being dumb, but also kinda funny. I ran out of fuel once, halfway to the center of the galaxy my first time out in deep space, so I joined the rats, I mean, it gave me more motivation to fly around new pockets of space

The underwater headless are actually easier cuz you can still swim fast as opposed to the ground ones that slow you down

Everything gets far more intense in VR. If you want to krank up the experience even more, get yourself some haptic backpack or feelbelt, that lets you even feel explosions , engine vibrations or dark monster voices...and you stresslevel will go off the scale ;)
