I actually play Egypt in Civ V as my favorite country. This video fully represents my game style. I build all the World Wonders and then I get the most population. Eventually, I get the Science Victory.

And that's why domination only is the best mode in my opinion. It's the only way the game truly feels like it's "Over". That and you actually get to explore late game combat, and civs like Germany and Japan aren't worthless.

@@MrTreefoz i was playing a peaceful game with gandhi as a neighbor. I was new and didnt know anything about nuclear gandhi so i declared war on him in the atomic era bc i wanted some resource i guess. Last time i did that.

I like how it it ends with Egypt eating grapes with a whole bunch of wonders in the background. They spent their time building up their civilization instead of fighting a useless war.

@@alyssinclair8598 Impressive buildings are usually built via crushing taxes. Cathedrals, mostly funded through donations, were the exception.

I finally understand the joke in this sentence. It's because the AI keeps sending unfair trade deal offers all the time (and they kept that tradition in Civ 6).
When I play with friends we send trade deals demanding literally everything just to mess with the other players who are losing. And we'll offer like 1 gold for every non capital city or dumb stuff like that.
@@PatandSylus i often do useless 1 to 1 trades of iron, marble, horses, etc. Just because.
The trade deals are probably unfair if you're not liked by whatever leader sent the deal. Otherwise they seem fine to me.
@@julymagnus493 so if an ai gives me open borders and asks for open borders, horses, iron, truffles, spices and 3gpt its fair. And they were friendly with me at the time so it wasnt that. Its because the trading system is based off percentages and ai usually has horrible reasources

My first round I didn’t know the military actually used up money because I didn’t know which things they would portray more accurately so I was confused at first why I was making like 9 gold per turn

I have them because on the DS version of Civilization, a decade ago, you couldn’t upgrade your units.
Not sure you could even disband them either.
Sometimes I keep them around just in case someone attacks me. My friends and I have had plenty of games where we are using whatever we can.

I like to think that everything that happens in these Civ videos actually happened in a game you guys played.
Kyle always plays Egypt and builds. So yes.
After playing over 100 games myself, these guys definitely play and some of the quips really give you a little comic sting in the sides because they're so true, they not only happen in games, they happen in A LOT of games. Things like, "oh my friend is at war, this university is a higher priority for me, but after that I guess I'll build a military unit... or something." As well as two nations declare war and then suddenly everyone gets roped into it - they could have gone a step farther with this as 1.) when this happens you often find yourself suddenly at war with someone you've been cooperating with for centuries and had no intention of ever betraying, and 2.) you often find yourself at war with someone you really don't even know, like,"we're at war with Morocco? Who are they again? Oh right! remember that scout that dropped by two millenia ago? Yeah, that's them - he came from a civilization who's still in some part of the map we haven't found yet. Never bothered to talk to them, never traded with them, never had any reason feel one way or the other about them, but I guess we're at war now... with someone we can't even find." And my favorite is the line, "trade deals became a method of mockery." The other civilizations will hate you fast, hard, and forever if you declare wars and take their cities. There's a very specific way to do it where you can sidestep the warmongering penalties, but unless you're very meticulous about it, everyone will hate you, and then one after another they will denounce you which increases the hate, and then when you try to trade with them, they will only give you 1 gold (the basic unit of currency in the game) for everything,

@@darkimpulse2829 Gandhi wrote an autobiography where he mentioned that he dragged her wife out of house by her wrist(when Gandhi was young), and he later said it was his ego as he didn't view her wife as an human being before(due to gender discrimination in India for long time) and he realized it was wrong and corrected himself by letting his ego go and after that time both Gandhi and her wife (kasturba gandhi) lived a happy life in which gandhi treated her equally and respected him alot and remember 1 thing Gandhi did this all when Racism was at it's peak in India, he even abolished cast system (born privileges) and did a lot of things to make Muslims and Hindus respect each other.
Gandhi wasn't a very bright person from the start(you can see that in his autobiography he wrote) but with time he became the person we know him as of now
I have 1200 hours in Civ 5 and I've never been nuked by Gandhi ONCE. I'm starting to feel totally left out of the joke.
@@swahiliranger1022 It's been a thing since a bug in Civ 1. Basically, every AI leader had a "use nukes" value which would be lowered when taking a certain policy. Gandhi's value was 0, but when it was lowered via policy, it rolled over to 255 (since bits can't go negative; it would default to 10 since it can't go that high). Due to this, Gandhi went from "never use nukes at all ever" to "nuke everything because it's there". The devs, finding the oversight funny, put Gandhi at max nuke value in future titles.

Benjy Rabin I'm watching gameplay from the Yogscast Civilization channel mostly. Most people don't like civ games when it's released, I don't think this is going to be an exception. Over the course of months however they seem to fix things with dlcs. I'm just going to wait.

2:59 Fun Fact: The Ghandi nuke joke came from when there was an issue with the AI in Civ II. Even though he had the lowest aggression level initially, however it underflowed into a negative value of 255, the highest aggression level.

Actually it was CIV 1 not CIV 2, in CIV 2 they on purpose put the bug in.
In CIV 1 if Ghandi was alive when you hit the right age and he gets to pick where to put the "upgrade" points he put them in peace full solutions that lowers his agression from 1 to -1 the game couldn't handle that and changed it to 255.
But beside that yes.
No, that is a myth spend by some internet trolls that the dev eventually made into the game as feature.
The bug was in civ 1. Ghandi would start with an aggression level of 1, then pick a government type (democracy) that would lower the aggression level by 2. Making it wrap around to 255. *out of 10.*
Since noone else cared to say it, Ian's soldier progress is amazing.

Enemy has entire army.
They lose that army to one Composite bowman owned by me.
Repeat every era, replacing the composite bowman with it's upgraded counterparts.

This line is actually so brilliant. For people that don't understand, well. Let's just say that Venice enjoys a bloody war, especially a large scale one. Especially being the one who usually funds both sides.
I played a game of Civ 6 with 4 human players (including myself) and 7 AI players. The humans and AI had split into factions of 2 humans and 3 AI each, on pretty much opposite sides of the map, with Gandhi as a divider around a large inland lake region. One of the people on the other faction accidentally started a war with one of my city states, which cascaded into a global war. Gandhi’s land was reduced to ruins, with his formerly 20+ population cities reduced to under 7. It quickly became a stalemate, until my faction discovered nukes. The enemy was surprised when we began to withdraw our troops from the border region over 20 or so turns, until the entire region lit up in nuclear fire, decimating their armies. Our newly upgraded troops rushed through the wastes and gained much ground. A stalemate was again reached at a large mountain range, and D-Day was planned. The naval battle of the Tethys Ocean was the largest I had ever seen, and we hopped from island to island, capturing cities to use as forward operating bases. We would raze cities if they didn’t have a spot for an airfield. D-Day proceeded as planned, and the enemies were reduced to rump states with only one or two small cities each. The Great War had been won.

This is basically an entire civ game... settle too close, war is declared, everyone gets involved, war lasts forever, troops become obsolete coz u building troops instead of science, a player who doesnt get involved wins.

Between AIs in Civ I find it goes one of two ways: They have their units thrown at eachother for years with no gain, or one of the nations present is a super warmongerer and has like 50 Catapults and just rolls a continent or three.
Charles Dewitt I mostly play multiplayer too. I guess join a group with more skilled players. That's the mp equivalent.

Edit: after watching the video again, i have noticed that sweden founded new cheese land closer to the ottoman city that the game would allow (you cant settle a city within 3 tiles of another, and new cheese land is), so gustav is a hacker

yeah that's what it looks like but its just boring. the music is forgettable, the game lacks any personality or diversity. if you play one game of Civ: beyond earth you've essentially played a million games of Civ: beyond earth.
the game has 3 victory paths to go down. Purity where you essentially just do what you were supposed to do in the first place, Harmony where you integrate with the planet's flora and fauna, and Supremacy where you turn everyone into cyborgs or robots or something and convince homeworld by way of violence that this way is best for survival. they all are practically the same, all ending with the same thing Civ 5 did with the culture victory prior to the Brave New World expansion as in build a special wonder to win. the only major difference between the three are about 3 or 4 unique units that each one gets. Harmony gets access to the aliens that are essentially this game's barbarians, Supremacy gets Robots, and purity gets space marines that are just different enough from Warhammer 40K to avoid copyright infringement.
Harmony, purity and supremacy aren't the victory conditions their more like the ideologies… plus you can have hybrid affinities so there are really 6 of those.

I don't feel they could do as much prop-based gags due to the EU4 interface being a lot more abstracted. Like, at best, they could dress like the advisor portraits.

Yeah, and also they said "within 3 hex of Ottoman empire", when it was actually in the adjacent tile to Ottoman land and within 3 hex of an Ottoman CITY". Fuck, it's good to be able to let that one go.

europe is too complicated, here in north america we have like 3 countries, and the 3rd one really belongs in south america
Actually North America's got 3 bigger countries and let's say about 30 others, but they are technically "Central American" and "Caribbean" so I'll give you that point, but they are by no means South American except partly Panama and some very southern Caribbean ones, there are actually quite few countries in South America compared to North America(including the Central American and Caribbean ones), Europe, Africa and Asia.

1:37 I just realized, that setting of New Cheeseland is impossible!! The game won't let you settle a city that close to another city! In fact I'm pretty sure New Cheeseland couldn't even be built one hexagon to the left of where it was built there. And moving further to the left, well, you can't make a city on a mountain (although now that I say that out loud, that would be really cool!)
Basically, that whale spot would be too much trouble to get in the real game, without taking into account the war risk it involved! Cheeseland didn't need whales THAT much, did they?
