Or worse, a random AI declares war and suicides against your units (or doesn't even do anything at all) and then offers a city in the peace agreement.
Then every other AI calls you a warmonger if you take that deal! XD
@@PerfectAlibi1 The AI is annoying. Has been since inception of Civ. Best to just ignore the AI's ridiculousness and focus on growing your military, economy, infrastructure etc., that way you don't need anyone.

Not me, unfortunately. While I understand the benefits of city-states, I usually only work to be ally's with a couple of them. Too often, doing quests for them can be overly burdensome when I'm trying to lead my own empire. That said, I do typically go for patronage and that first branch that puts the resting location at +25%
I am venince in the city state way- but then I also invest heavily in expansion. Woo for cities~!
zthompson2350 Yeah, i also find that doing missiosns for all the city states can be a little hard, so i basically do the same you say, and when i am stupidly rich, i just give them money :p
Yeah, my main thing is just being Montezuma and using autocracy to fear my way into their hearts, becoming allies with like 30 city states without having to do quests. I'm pretty sure that is how most people do it anyways.

I recently voted against my own proposal to ban copper.
The Zulus held a shitload of copper mines, so I wanted to weaken them.
Then by the time the world congress actually swung around, I had already captured them all.

Best way to cripple a known warmonger is to embargo city states, IMO. Gets them all quiet in a hurry!

My strat with venice is literally to buy all the city states on the map. And I can do it too because I have insane gold production strats. That way, I control the WC with a stranglehold and can outvote anyone, even if they all gang up on me.
So that's 3 autocracy and 4 order civs against making freedom the world ideology, and it passed. Wow guys, you seem to have a lot of barbarians walking around your empires all of a sudden, wonder why that is

Embargo won't break his alliances, also - he can vote against embargoing them anyway, he always wins.
He would lose most/all of his money though. I imagine that he won't be able to get enough trade routes to the others as they would declare war on him.

while it wouldn't immediately break his alliances, it would significantly reduce his gold income meaning that he couldn't keep buying the city states loyalty for then next world Congress. You're correct that if it was the first vote he could have repealed it but because he already put other delegates in other positions he lost this vote. While not a perfect explanation, it shows the idea behind the script. if the vote actually happened as it did in the video it would screw him.
I've never eaten crabs so Suleiman might as well have my vote.
They're pretty delicious. Better try one before Suleiman has his way.

how to win in Civ 101.
step 1: get a lot of money.
step 2: buy all city states
step 3: deny everything that the rest of the world throws at you.
step 4: wait for a world leader proposal to become possible
step 5: ???
step 6: profit.
Maybe on prince.
I actually won on Immortal that way. With Venice, to be honest, so that made it easy! But yeah, Diplomacy is probably the easiest way to win in Civilization V, especcially since allied City-States give you a lot of bonuses that sometimes can be hard to come by otherwise, like Happiness or Military.
Theodora looked genuinely pissed by Enrico. Kudos to the actress.

I had a game once where I was the only Freedom civilization in a world of Order civilizations
Through spies and city states, I dominated the world congress every time and placed enough pressure on the other nations to overthrow Order and start a cold war.
That was one of my favorite games so far.

I would never have an ill word for Sweden; it's a beautiful country, with great people. But somehow, throughout my years of playing Civ 5, Gustavus Adolphus became my archnemesis; he just constantly ended up in my games, always as a close neighbor I ended up warring or just conflicting with. Love the Sabaton songs about him, though.

I thought the same thing when I played Civ 5! I seriously could not understand the picture of truffles. You think your entire life that it is candy (Chocolate Truffles) and all of a sudden see a pig eating something off the ground as representing "truffles". Very confusing, I thought maybe the pig was eating candy off the ground, but that made no sense.
Pedro Rodriguez Pigs are used to find truffles. They have a much better sense of smell than dogs, and are also more dedicated when trained properly. Nonetheless, the image for truffles is highly confusing, even if you have this prior knowledge.
Truffles are actually a kind of fungus that grows in the wild. Pigs love truffles and can root them out, so the "truffles" luxury is just a forest where pigs have managed to sniff some out.

No its truffles. Truffles are a type of mushroom that grow under the ground and pigs are good at smelling them and digging them out

I always rush nukes with science civs, build a few dozen then get nuclear non-proliferation put in place. makes that last bit of the game pretty easy.
