Easy to guess the area of where the languages are being spoken, but the actual country was really difficult this time.

Faroese really tripped me out too. All these years I thought it would sound closer to Icelandic or Danish, and as a Norwegian who grew up learning Swedish to near fluent level, I was so confused by what I heard. In this entire game, I only identified German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), Thai, Korean, Italian and English. It highlights the sad fact that some languages are much easier to identify than others, and as a result, the world is heavily skewed in favour of languages that are easier to identify, with English occupying the apex of the global language recognition pyramid. We hear English-language songs on many radio stations around the world, see English-language films and television shows, predominantly from the United States, and people learn English as a compulsory subject in non-English-speaking countries. All of them are manifestations of a world being heavily centred on the English language, thus skewing the world in favour of native English speakers. The only way to fight this problem of lingual Anglocentrism is to create a panlingual language used as a global lingua franca in order to make the world a lingual level-playing field, benefitting native speakers of all languages, including native English speakers.

As such we do so much encounter Finnish (tv programs in Finnish, going to Finland, seeing Finnish on wrappings, etc) that we learn to recognize it easily and also knowing quite a few words even if not understanding it at all spoken. Still lots of languages to cover, including all the new world indigenous languages, Australian Aboriginal languages, many more Pacific Islander languages and African languages, and I can think of a few more European languages (English’s sister language, Switzerland’s other official language, Europe’s most northerly indigenous language), and Asian languages (minority languages of China and Russia to name a few).
