Joshua was probably so hard to recognize as german cause he was speaking with a dialect accent. In Germany, a dialect can be very different, with different words and even sentence structures. But there's also a way to speak standard german tinted with a dialect pronounciation. For example Joshua was pronouncing the letters 'a' like it was half an 'o' and a very soft, nearly silent 'r'. While in the southern regions, be it Bavaria or Baden-Württemberg (in the later, every village has its own dialect tbh, plus broader regional dialect patterns) you would roll the 'r' much more like the french.

It's kinda funny most of them mentioned they have at least a little exposure to the German language. Even if you are 99.9% new to the language, with the 0.1% knowledge you would have easily picked up words like 'Guten morgen' and 'Ich bin' no? To me, those are such big giveaways. 😂 Yet out of all the Nordic languages they picked one which isn't even related/Germanic. 🤣 To be frank the guy speaks with a very neutral, standard accent with no regional variation whatsoever.

The Filipina knew that if she answers “eskwelahan” (escuel-han) for the wordd school, the Brazilian and Spanish ladies would get it. The food though has hispanic influences that’s why when she answered “lechón”, it was the hint already along with “Kumusta” (from the Spanish como está).
