I had that same thing happen to me!!!! I was helping a friend do some plumbing. He yelled over to me to get another piece of pipe!!!! I came back in 15 minutes and he wanted to know what took so long? I told him the pipe was clogged with wires, and it took me awhile to get them out!!¡!
Still to this day I'll never know how Curly got that valve off!!! He was using the pipe wrench backwards!! Those had to be right hand threads on that valve !!!!

If it were me I would have painted directly onto the film. You don't see the fire but for a few frames anyway. While the technology of the time was limited, there was a LOT more you could get away with back then given the low resolution and lack of color
