  • Mermaid Pools along the Matura River,, with its turquoise "crystal clear" water, is one of the gems of Trinidad & Tobago. Located along Thomas Road of Easter Main road (that's the road on the way to Toco).
According to locals, they say mermaids swam in a pool in Matura, seen by ancestors many years ago. Hence the name, Mermaid Pool.
The Matura river and mermaid pools are part of it includes the mountainous Matura National Park, an Environmentally Sensitive Area consisting of a diverse plant community, including the towering Mora trees, estimated to be over 30,000 years old.

Been there a couple years ago.Was really lovely, but the track seems to be shorter , because we had crossed a lower part of the river and walked upstream. Also the track wasnt as cleaned as this, i not sure if it is a different route. The water was wonderful, i just sat on those rocks and let the water ran all over me .
