"Capoeira is treachery. It was formed during a time of downpression. It was masked as dance. The attack was always there. It's just keeping the spirit of guerrilla warfare in which it was born." ~ Formado Rasta (Nação Capoeira)
Wow! Incredible break down of the strongest aspects of the art, it's strategic disguise, it's strength through humility, and it's intelligence... Chess not checkers. This perspective of capoeira highlights it's spiritual manifestation into the physical form via the oppressed warriors and shaman of the Adrian diaspora and American natives, aspects which are most vital to the continuing spirit of capoeira, aspects which are lacking as the art spreads itself around the globe. Thanks for sharing this. Ase O!

Hello Sir I find the system very interesting always had I myself don't practice this but I do have a question if I may. Please take this with a grain of salt and this is coming from a person that does not train in this art. I never seen any practice this in any self defense applications. I always have seen it practice in dance like form and yes I know it has application but honestly I have yet to see it?
mrangfla1 if you need to know practicality we suggest you check on RUclips on video of it applied in a real fighting situation. If you need more direct answers we suggest you join some Capoeira group on Facebook to get a one on one dialogue with those who practice.
like A Wise Way said, go check out the youtube vids especially where Barraozinho from Axé Capoeira takes it into the MMA cage. Having said that, those who have practiced Capoeira for a significant amount of time and have dedicated themselves to the artwork will all tell you that Capoeira isn’t about any of the movements. The humble and real ones will also admit it ain’t everything, but Capoeira trains the mind to be very sharp and unpredictable. That’s the real lesson and the weapon.
Capoeira looks like a great workout and is very clearly beneficial as an exercise, or as an addition to things like Ballet, gymnastics and the like. Would even be a good addition for sport and tournament aspects of the combat arts, in the right conditions like kata or to help create an entertaining demo. I have seen "fights" that were designed for Capoeira tournaments... they are very much less impressive than the practice of the art amongst classes. Of course this is only my personal view and I am very aware that those that practice this art may very well disagree with my analysis of this art form. But that is very well the reason there are countless forms of martial arts that exist.
People say that capoeira is not a martial art because they only see ordinary people practicing it for mere pleasure, to socialize or even as a therapy against anxiety, depression, etc. In order to evaluate capoeira as a martial art, it is necessary to find people with excellent physical conditioning with years of training. It would not be a good idea to use capoeirista in MMA fights because capoeira has the most powerful kick among all martial arts and people could be killed in combat unless the athletes started to use protection for the chest and head when fighting ultra-trained capoeiristas. Of course, a glapping athlete could immobilize a capoeirista with certain ease, but he would always be running the risk of being kicked in the head with a force greater than his absorption capacity, which could represent a tragedy for him and for the organization of the event. .

Mestre Bimba Challenge people and fighters in Brazil thus showing his strength.
Much like the Gracie family did?
Very well said. That´s exactly how Capoeira survived and progressed along its history.
"Don't look @ the size of the dog in the fight but rather The Size of the Fight in the Dog..." Namaste.
Never give up and never back down. Always push in the direction of your passion and the lessons you learn will be priceless!
Capoeira was used as a weapon for almost 400 years, don't you ever say it isn't a martial art...
Haven't seen anyone fight with it though tbh, all just looks like zumba classes.
@@Fucklifedeadshit some fighers in MMA use some moves from capoeira.
