I've said it before, and I stand by it: Hasbro ould make more money if they partnered with some of these 3P folks, gave them access to better materials, and appealed to creators.
Then theyll sell their overpriced garbage for even more then.
These are aimed at collectors and with the price of these it wouldn't have been any issue to at least give him silver legs. Its just lazy
@@sparkles122 yeah, they did that with the masterpiece movie ironhide. He has a lot of unpainted grey pieces. It is definitely laziness, they aren’t even trying to be film accurate with the paint.

It's way more complicated than just "partnering". There is literally nothing they can do. Skullface has plenty of videos explaining why it's impossible for Hasbro to tap into the higher premium market. Masterpiece is about as good as its ever going to get.
never would i think that a masterpiece figure needed an upgrade kit THIS BAD
It annoys me that the Hasbro designers didn’t think of that forearm conversion. Especially considering that I literally thought of this kit’s exact solution immediately after seeing the arm kibble.
I guess it's probably just Hasbro's desperate desire to lower the cost by reducing parts count that ruined everything. They've been doing this all the time with mainline TF; this time they're just insane enough to have a masterpiece Optimus Prime figure be the victim.

I'm good with my cheap upgrade, metal pipes & rubber band for his loose wrist. Figure is like $120 & the upgrade kit is $62, includes shipping cost.

@@brickingduck Yeah, without it, his wrist is way too loose and he can't hold his gun properly. The rubber bands tightens up the worst so he can pose while holding the gun.
The cat ears were ridiculous! This was a desperately needed upgrade. The forearms are a great upgrade too! Thanks for showing how the parts are installed. The legs are an improvement too, they weren’t desperately needed IMHO.

I got this kit from Ages 3 and Up, and it's really fantastic! Especially with the new forearms, shoulders and thighs, considering said thighs actually swivel this time, and the only read modification I did is the head, I colored the eyes with a sky blue paint pen, so he'll look, more alive, and what you do is take a toothpick and carefully push the eyes out when disassembled and color said eyes with a sky blue paint pen, and I really didn't have any difficulties on the kit, the only thing I struggled with is the spring in the shoulders. And thankfully I didn't lose them, and great review as always, Prime!
Wow, and with the upgrades, the figure has become much better.
I honestly think this is a perfect replacement for the Toy World BB Prime
yeah toy world is only good as a display figure, it's painful to play and transform with it

Also the way the new forearm transforms reminds me of Magic Square Light of Freedom's forearm transformation.

Good video. Definitely improves the figure, but oof, swapping the parts out looks like a pain.
Also, calling things like the cat ears and the forearm panels lazy...It's not. The TF designers are an incredibly passionate bunch, both Hasbro and Takara. And something this small, they definitely would have changed had they been able to. With how MPM has been selling (not poor, but also not great), they probably were told to keep the pricepoint low, and so budget decisions had to be made. Some of the designers are on Instagram and they talk about how this happens a lot for the mainline toys, and I don't see why that would be different for MPM. It sucks, but it happens. At least they're still doing these figures, and fortunately there are ways to improve them.
Totally agree. Also, these are made by hasbro of asia and not takara.
Thanks for checking it out! I absolutely agree, I’ve seen their posts and they seem incredibly passionate about their products. However, a masterpiece is suppose to be the best of the best, they charge a significant increase when compared to the generations line & to me (within reason) budget should not be an issue. Take MP44 for example that thing originally was over $400

I still do think it’s inexcusable for a masterpiece figure to have such obvious flaws, it literally flies in the face of the name. People wouldn’t mind them raising the price a little if it meant that they got better transformations, heck, they don’t seem to mind jacking the prices up either but they just do it with crap no one cares about like human mini figures, over engineered car doors, and other stuff. You could say they’re not slacking off but they’re definitely cheaping out.

For me, don't really need it (for now), since I don't mind the cat ears, the arm kibble, hands or the knee joints since I can modify them without and leaving the cat ears in. And don't have the time or mood to changing them since that experience you had.
But I will pick them up in the future when that time comes, but great video nonetheless for showcasing those who are excited for this.

I wouldnt say they were lazy with the production of this figure. Clearly theres a story there thats not been told. There are some things they have to cut off because of budgeting so they had to cut off some of the engineering. They just have to deal with it and move on. But I have to give credit to DNA designs here for putting out a great upgrade kit for this figure.
I wanna keep the cat ears for the truck mode just to have it remain as silly of an altmode as the Classics Deluxe and Hybrid Style toy

Eventually, the people behind MPM 12 wanted to lower the cost of the figure. That's why MPM 12 has these many issues. I personally think what they did was unnecessary since it's a masterpiece figure those compromises were unnecessary just to lower the cost. Or at least I believe that is to be the reason why MPM 12 has many noticeable flaws.
MPM figures should never have cuts made to them. They’re intended to be the best of the best and charge a pretty hefty price tag. This guy should’ve been basically perfect out of the box :(
For goodness' sake they're called Masterpieces, not budget pieces. They really shouldn't have skimped on the budget.
@@PrimeVsPrime Unfortunately, MPM figures seem to be a little lower budget than the Beast Wars and G1 masterpiece figures. This guy was around $130 at target when he was available from them.
There shouldn’t be any worries on the cost for a collectible. As collectors, we are already willing to pay higher prices for the accuracy and detail. I once spent nearly 400 on a Black Apple Optimus a couple years ago. I overpaid, but still happy nonetheless. It has such a presence on my shelf. He grabs your eye the instant you see the collection.

it is necessary? really the mpm 12 is very good on his own, obviously not perfect but the kit makes it almost perfect except for the 54 dollars more that you have to pay and some minor problems, but at that point, why not just go with the freedom leader if you want a perfect bumblebee movie optimus prime displayed in your shelve or the lemon tree one? freedom leader is not much of a toy considering the nightmare it is to transform, but, mpm 12 without the upgrade kit still is a enjoyable toy
That’s very true! I guess it depends on what you want. This guy is relatively easy to transform in comparison to freedom leader & is arguably a lot more enjoyable

If I had the mpm-12 Optimus Prime toy with the update kit I would keep the new arms, shoulder pieces, and the head on him, the new legs makes him taller and makes his v mode longer, and his v mode is not that long in the bumblebee movie 🙂
The truck mode is actually very long in the film I was surprised! The trailer hangs out right at the back of an elongated truck bed

I'm not gonna lie, I've been wanting an MPM-12 just to paint the Truck Mode bow pink.

The improved hands are great, but I have to be honest and say I quite like the truck window detail on the back of the forearms; I think it looks better and more fun than the slightly empty-looking replacement in this kit.
But a pointy finger is a 100% improvement.

The figure is amazing they should've added the folded down ears from the beginning Ill definitely buy this kit
The difference in white shoulder paint is due to that they had different apps in cybertron scenes vs earth scene. The mpm inaccurately has the cybertron ones instead of earth ones and the kit fixes it
My major problem with this figure is the upper joint of the elbow for transformation, that is tabbed into place in robot mode. That tab is not tight enough (at least not on my copy) so that whenever I want to angle the forearm down, it untabs that joint instead of the ratchet elbow. It's not fun to play with a figure that requires both hand to pose a single joint. I was happy when dr wu said they would have the upgrade kit replacing the whole arm, but that project got canceled :(

The only part I really do like is the legs. I already had the cat ear removal shoulder flap kit and I'm fine with existing head and arms. Still, the kit does look very nice

Is it weird that this kit just makes live action Optimus into G1 live action Optimus i mean, i know "bumblebee" is based on G1 but this kit makes it so much more like G1

Yep. I kept those and upgraded everything else.
Shoulder piece is kept clean and it still goes all the way down for Alt Mode.

At this point there are so many KO & upscales of MPM4 I doubt any one would buy that kit sadly :(

No the shoulder panel paint was done that way because they put the cybertronian paint on the earth mode shoulders. So the DNA corrected this with the one white stripe of the earth mode art

Very good this upgrade kit, this figure disappointed me on a giant level. Unbelievable how hasbro is rubbish when it comes to making figures, they all always have errors in the mold, material, weak and lazy painting. While outsourced companies continue to make amazing fucking figures. But with this kit I say yes I would buy this figure if I couldn't buy the toy world prime.
But I will never be able to buy any of these Transformers since no masterpiece figures or from outsourced companies are sold here in Brazil. Only hasbro's studio series and children's Transformers are basically sold here in Brazil, and if I wanted to buy any of these figures I would have to import them, but my country charges very high imports (60% of the imported product) so it's impossible I can acquire such figures.
But otherwise my only criticism of the figure is that I wanted a light system to light up the eyes, I think it would be much better but the eyes are already very visible so it's not something that bothers me so much, and thanks for the review, I wanted to see if then you could see a future kit that will launch to insert a new coast for megatron mpm and its kos.

Okay but bruh, this kit is amazing.. wish I had the Prime to get this kit for lmao. And the heads.. the upgrade head looks.. skinny. The original head looks.. fatter, but in a good way. The new head feels too.. movie like, being skinnier, where the original feels more g1.

I would get the kit mainly for the new forearms/better hands and the head. I like his normal height being the same as MP-10 and the original MPM Optimus. The fact of having an awkward time trying to take the pins out for the shoulders and replacing those legs doesn't seem worth it.
I think it’s worth it overall, it’s just the process to get there haha

The light piping never worked on the eyes. If they just copied the head but painted the eyes and molded the blue in the same color that would have been enough. Disappointed that they didn't weather the white stripe on the side to match the stripe on the front but not bad. I could probably live without this, if not for those damn cat ears. wtf takara...

Unpopular opinion: I think the figure is great on its own, the problem with the cat ears get to much hate cause some trucks have them from what I've heard. I don't have him yet but I want to soon

This upgrade kit is half price of the figure...it is ridiculous! You can pass with some repaint or not! But $52 for kit is insane for me!
Even with the cat ears gone, that's not a truck. Like, it's a truck from dead on front and that's it. MPM 12 is just a disaster.
