Australia stopped producing 1 & 2 cent coins in 1992. When purchasing with cash the amount is rounded up or down for the odd cents to the nearest 5 cents.

I showed to my manager all he could say was 'so what' I told him you will never see or find another unstuck blank in a roll of quarters again. It went in my pocket and I put quarter in the register from the tip can. Back then in the late nineties an unstuck blank quarter was going for about $25 at coin shows.

What's so surprising? Minting currency is not a costless procedure, they paid two cents in production cost for a one cent coin. Nothing shocking here.

The "D" mint mark previously represented the Dahlonega mint in Georgia. The produced coins from 1838 through 1861.
