Thank you very much for this crystal clear lesson. But what chords/scale do you use on step-wise melodies on DOMINANT chords like in measure 8 ? Kent Hewitt has a drop 2 arrangement of this song on his channel but I still can't understand what scale of chords to use on dominant chords. :)
Thank you! Dominants have the most amount of choices as they come from the most scales. On this tune, I quite like the whole tone scale moves. You can learn about those on my channel.
Thanks. An excellent application. However, I have noticed you have changed the second movement chord from Am7 which was notated there originally, to F6 (around minute 2:21). I have noticed that since I have paused the video and tried to apply the method myself finding the correct scale, and had no success of using the Cdim6 scale to that movement (which is the scale for Am7). So my question is why is it that way? why does the Cdim6 scale sound not right even if Am7 was the original chord, and how can I apply that change of chords in the future?
your videos are legend. ive also seen jay verma play who i believe is associated with you in some way, and he is phenomenal .. barry harris really filters through and changes peoples lives in music
great lesson Shan.! I've watched some videos of Barry Harris talking about the importance of the minor six diminished scale but couldn't really understand. Now everything 's seems very easy and clear. I'm looking Forward for your next lessons. Thanks and enjoy your playing and teaching
Our brains can see the difference in notation between Cmaj6 & Amin7 - the first chord is major ,second chord is minor but our ears have no eyes and hear just Amin7.
It has taken longer than I care to admit but now I finally understand these scales! Thanks for an EXCELLENT lesson!
I love your tutorials! you give such clear and full instructions, showing not only the scales but how to play them is priceless!!
