I used Lastools years ago. Now Lastools has been improved with many features and looks more stable. İt is also nice to see the source for sample point cloud data set. Thanks!
Great video Hans! Was able to follow the steps successfully from A through Z! One question: I am trying to create a STL file so I can 3D print sections of different cities. The problem I am having is that the vertical building walls always end up looking like pine tree shapes (wider on the bottom than on the top). I have tried different settings throughout the process, with no success. Any suggestions you (or anyone else) could share on how to get a step further? Thanks!
That's related to the interpolation for raster. It is better to create a textured mesh if you want straight edges. I don't have a workflow ready for that.
Hi! Thank you for a great video. I wonder, what's the difference in the process of creating a DEM? I need to create both a DSM and a DEM. Can I do that with LASTools? Thank you
The difference between DEM, DTM and DSM are explained in this video: ruclips.net/video/pnAdasqHxGk/видео.html. If you're interested in the terrain you need a DTM. Then with LASTools or Whiteboxtools you can filter the ground points from the point cloud and interpolate only those points to a rester.
If the point cloud has the classification attribute you can separate the vegetation points using LASTools or WhiteboxTools. If the classification attribute is not available you need to classify the points, which is more difficult. You can also try LASTools or WhiteboxTools for that. And then interpolate to a raster tif.
Is there anyway to get las2dempro? I seem to be stuck at this part with only the option os using las2dem. I have 400 tiled files, and it would take an eternity to manage this part
The las2demPro tool can be found in LAStools folder-raster derivatives. See also this tutorial from Geodose: www.geodose.com/2020/01/tutorial-lidar-data-processing-lastools-qgis.html
Hoi Hans. Bedankt voor je heldere stappen en uitleg. Ik ontvang alleen een foutmelding bij het aanmaken van de hillshade en ik denk dat dit met een tekort aan geheugen te maken heeft. Kun je dit bevestigen? De foutmelding is:
Roaming/QGIS/QGIS3\profiles\default/python/plugins\QGIS-terrain-shading-master\shading_algorithm.py", line 175, in processAlgorithm mx_z = np.zeros( chunk_slice); mx_z[:] = -99999 MemoryError: Unable to allocate 38.1 MiB for an array with shape (5000, 1000) and data type float64 Uitvoering mislukt na 0.08 seconden
Ik interpreteer het ook als een tekort aan geheugen. Nog even geduld en dan is er de native QGIS point cloud support: www.lutraconsulting.co.uk/crowdfunding/pointcloud-qgis/

The video was recorded in SD quality, so it has 720p. Make sure that you switch to 720p. Click on the gear, choose Quality and select 720p. Then it should be readable. My newer videos are at Full HD (1080p).

Wow this is great. Thank you for sharing. And thanks for contributing to QGIS!
Very informative step by step guide! Helped me a lot, Great job!
Hans, This is a wonderful piece of work!
Hi, thank you for the video. Do you have a DSM map of Dnipro or do you have any idea where to find it?
Open point cloud data can be found at opentopography.org/. If it's not there, you need to check with the authorities if it's available.
This is so awesome! Thanks a lot!

Liked and subscribed! Great video.
Really a good video!! God work!

Wow, impressive!
Great tutorial. I need to extract from a laz file only the vegetation into a tif format, is it possible? Thanx

You need to select the correct section. File - raster derivatives has las2dem. Folder - raster derivatices has las2dempro
Good job 👍🏼
Nice presentation

@@HansvanderKwast Bedankt. Ik heb al een nieuwe laptop aangevraagd, dus dan zou het goed moeten komen... Ik hou de ontwikkelingen in de gaten
can you provide Arc Gis or Qgis software for us
QGIS is Open Source and you can download it for free at www.qgis.org
@@HansvanderKwast tq
All sharp and clear thanks so much! I just have a little problem during the process, sent you an email :)
Thank you!
Thanks!
