I ain't gonna lie theres something about hearing Toast speak that makes me even more depressed than i already am. Its not what he says its just how hes saying it.

Uh, freedom of speech is just freedom from the government curtailing our speech. Not freedom to say whatever in privately owned environments. It's why you can ban people on Twitch for saying weird stuff, but you can't kick a crazy guy out of a park for giving a speech to no one. Twitter, Reddit, etc are all privately owned.
Oh, wow, you kind of go into this exact distinction with the Dr. Disrespect conversation at the end, hahaha. There you go, that. Twitch can ban him, doesn't mean he can be prosecuted.

That's not quite correct. You are describing the 1st amendment of the bill of rights. Freedom of speech itself is the underlying principle, and it does not only apply to the United States government.

@@Danne1886 meaningless statement as it gets into contention immediately. As a group of people that is a company also has the right not to associate with you. It relates primarily to the government because they can jail you. To anyone else any compulsion is affecting one party or another's rights. It is good for the government to be hands off because they have a monopoly on legitimate violence. A company to enforce your idea you need to strip them of the freedom to say they don't want to associate with you. There better be a good reason and a trade off for that like net neutrality or common carrier status.
Never realized how little y’all know about the constitution: freedom of speech is freedom from the government punishing you for your speech, private companies can still do whatever they please with their customers including refusing service.

When that game dev terminated their relationship with Dr. Kidinspect, before the Dr. admitted doing it himself, I immediately knew it was real bad for the Doc. That game studio only had one thing going for it and that one thing was Dr. Disrespect, them canceling their relationship with him is basically them throwing their shitty nft game in the garbage.

@@easywhaler2387 For starters Taiwan does not follow china rules. His comment is regarding freedom of speech in China. What he said is extremely out of touch to reality.
1. Anyone can get sued by anyone for anything that can be taken as an insult in Taiwan, YES you can get sued and fined for calling someone a bitch.
2. Something with the current government, when you criticize them, they will find ways to shut you down, i.e all the news channels and comentary channels were shut down in taiwan that's not in support of current government (So Taiwan's pretty much going the way of China).
3. The government official openly said that it is karama that the region that didn't vote for them got hit with earthquake. And tell people to not help with the econnomic rebuild efforts because they deserve it (Feel free to do a quick google or youtube serach of this, it is very easy to find)
4. You do not have to criticize the governnment in China to lose everything, you just have to piss off the wrong person and they can use "speech crime" to ping you. Literally anything can be linked to treason, including complaining about not being able to withdraw cash from your bank. (Once againn, very easy search)
There is a lot of issue with "freedom of speech" in both China and Taiwan, Toast speaks like a very privilaged American and it feels like a punch in the face for people who has to tread very lightly everyday.

I like the freedom of speech we have in Germany. Your right on freedom of speech ends as soon as you are trying to restrict other people of their rights.
For example, you are not allowed to verbally attack a person or make up something about them otherwise you can get fined.
When we had freedom of speech like USA has, we got someone like Hitler who actually has a lot of resemblance with Trump.
Hitler also made up most of the things he said but used a little bit of truth which made everyone believe what he said is 100% truth.
The US has harassment and defamation of character, slander, and liable laws as well

In Germany if someone tells obvious lies about me to other people and I find that out, I can sue them for slander.
I can also sue someone for just insulting me. Depending on the impact they could even get a jail sentence.
So if someone called me the f-slur in Germany I could actually sue them while in the US this is considered freedom of speech. That being said, if I insult them back I can't sue them anymore.

What you have means you don’t have freedom of speech laws. You have restricted speech laws. You don’t have freedom of speech if you can’t say what you want to say. In the US, the only speech restriction is call to arms, which I agree should be restricted, as they can cause mass panic like saying there is a fire in a movie theater. Insulting someone and then going to jail is so insane to me. You don’t have a right not to be insulted. Also, comparing Trump to Hitler is a bit much. They have very few similarities, and very different ideas and ideologies.

Insulting someone is always a matter of civil court, the government doesn't really get involved in this, they are just a mediary. They determine how severe the insult was, then calculate the punishment based on their income (for example 50€ for 30 days = 1500€) and if the person isn't able to pay up they have to go to jail instead (they would have to go to jail for 30 days in this example).
The most important law in Germany is: "humans dignity is inviolable". It's kinda crazy to me that someone can insult you in usa and you can't do anything else besides talking back. In Germany an insult counts as an attack, so if you do it right you can punch the shit out of someone and this will be counted as self defence. Most people like this law :D

it always amazes me how little Americans know about their own laws. "Freedom of speech" is there to flip off s cop, of talk shit to a politician, it definitely isn't there to stop your boss from firing you for something you said, or stop private companies from banning you for saying thing on their private forum. Even if the US government bought twitter or Instagram etc, you still wouldn't have the freedom to say whatever you wanted. Only if you were saying it about the government. They could censor the crap out of you if it was anything else.

The app payment thing isn't a Chinese thing, it's a global thing. The US is probably the only 1st world nation where this hasn't become ubiquitious. The QR code thing is pretty prevelant too but certinaly it's annoying. It's not necessarily a distinct app you need to add, but google/apple pay or just tapping with your debit/credit card.

I m a toast fan, but some of toast takes in the last few podcasts he have been in feels like forced, wrong, and lacks knowledge on topic. I haven't watched this full episode, but the eminem part was so off and wrong. I agree it wasn't the best/peak eminem song, but it still hit hard and most of the pop/hip hop culture and fans loved it.. I dont remember the exact timeline but 'houdini' was the most streamed spotify song the the week it was released and it also brought back its theme song 'without me' from 2 decades ago to top 5 in the spotify playlist. The song was supposed to be edgy and offend other people? Yes. Did it hit as hard as he would in his prime? No. But its still nowhere near the same type of edgy as teenagers these days. Also it overtook kendricks 'not like us' and sabrinas 'espresso' by a lot in spotify streams when it was released. I get jodis recency bias with sabrina carpenter and she is a great artist but please never compare hip hip with pop. Also i get that eminem is old and not in his prime but is it okay for these streamers who are also old and whose job is to appeal to the younger audience by being egdy themselves to go that hard on eminem and talk about his age that much? Also toast, haikyuu is not a overrated anime at all, if anything, i would say its underrated, it was one of the biggest and most impactful anime of all time as it actually jumpstarted the declining volleyball sport in japan because of inspiring a large number of young kids and teenagers to pursue a career in volleyball and henceforth reviving volleyball in japan, through statistics it was shown with every manga and anime season release of haikyuu in japan the sport grew there more and more. As a big toast fan for several years who agrees most of his takes, its kinda dissapointing when recently multiple of his takes are either completely wrong or forced with 0 actual reasons/knowledge to back it up..
Right on point. Sometimes it feels like he's speaking without actually knowing what he's talking about. It's okay to not have an opinion if you don't understand what's being discussed. I wish a mindset like that was more common.
