You know what absolutely crushed any previous existential thoughts I've had? The Three Body Problem series. The sense of scale that it envoked in my mind is unlike anything that has ever happened in my head before. I love reading, have read a ton and have never come across another book series that has done to me what the TBP series did to my head. A euphorial dread/hope is all I can describe what I felt at the end of the series.

Conversations are dry, no active listening and in general boring topics. All the effort to make a meme out of the guest in some sort of way is not great either. This is my opinion. Sydeon I completely feel the existential stuff, I've been battling with mine for a couple of months. TL;DR: I've had the same experience when I watched that exact video that you were talking about, I completely freaked out for 2-3 weeks and didn't know what to do. Eventually I found comfort in the idea that when we're gone, nothing is really confirmed, so like Jodie said, death could be just sleeping, but we don't recognize it, no feeling, no thoughts, "no dreams". You don't get a sense of where or are or any feelings, just nothing at all. I kind of liked that, since I dread infinity, it's just something we as humans can't comprehend. This was back in 2019 though. Now I've been back to dealing with the same thing and trying to find comfort in thoughts like that really. It's hard to think about, but living each moment really does matter and being with the moment. Idk just a little rant of mine. I don't come across these podcasts as often, but after reading the thumbnail/title, it peaked my curiosity and I'm glad I felt the same way that you did, Sydeon. If anything, it's easing my mind that I'm not the only one thinking exactly like this, even though I'm aware that nearly every human comes across this thought at least maybe once or twice in their lifetime.

However in the case of like wild horses for example being smarter wouldn't help and would just be an unnecessary energy drain so it isn't selected for. Sydeon I completely feel the existential stuff, I've been battling with mine for a couple of months.
TL;DR: I've had the same experience when I watched that exact video that you were talking about, I completely freaked out for 2-3 weeks and didn't know what to do. Eventually I found comfort in the idea that when we're gone, nothing is really confirmed, so like Jodie said, death could be just sleeping, but we don't recognize it, no feeling, no thoughts, "no dreams". You don't get a sense of where or are or any feelings, just nothing at all. I kind of liked that, since I dread infinity, it's just something we as humans can't comprehend. This was back in 2019 though. Now I've been back to dealing with the same thing and trying to find comfort in thoughts like that really. It's hard to think about, but living each moment really does matter and being with the moment.
Idk just a little rant of mine. I don't come across these podcasts as often, but after reading the thumbnail/title, it peaked my curiosity and I'm glad I felt the same way that you did, Sydeon. If anything, it's easing my mind that I'm not the only one thinking exactly like this, even though I'm aware that nearly every human comes across this thought at least maybe once or twice in their lifetime.
Syd talking about the devil reminded me of a story I was told recently that a family memeber of mine went to mexico and was driving through the mountains and he saw a pot of gold in the middle of the road but wrapped around the pot of gold was a snake and that he was just looking at the pot of gold and lost track of time, they said it was the devil trying to tempt him with the pot of gold

personally i don't like this setup. when they were around the table, they had interesting topics, they were really engaged with each other. this set has no energy and their conversations aren't nearly as interesting.

Pick another demographic, say they're trash, and then defend it the same way. Say tthat anyone challenging you on it is part of the problem. You never would, and you wouldn't support anyone else doing it either. You're not arguing on principles, you're making exceptions to your (supposed) principles. For champions of inclusion and empathy, you're being pretty exclusionary and callous.
I'm a big fan of both Jodi and Sydney, I don't go on LSF, I just dislike the objectively hateful stupid arguments they make about this. This brand of "feminism" is the same thing as the worst of the red pill BS. You're the mirror image of it, not the opposite, and it's incredibly disappointing.
amen. i was taught this lesson: don't judge other people for factors outside of their control. what gender they were born as (or if they were born as a gender they don't align with). what skin color they have. their height, their disabilities. but somehow seemingly progressive people like jodi and sydney openly encourage this behavior as long as its towards one specific group.

39:43 that's not how evolution works, one thing is there's no real intent behind it technically but more importantly intelligence is not always a good thing from an evolutionary standpoint.
the main reason for this is that it takes a lot of energy, in humans this paid of which is why we're so smart and why our brains use such a large portion of our energy compared to other species. However in the case of like wild horses for example being smarter wouldn't help and would just be an unnecessary energy drain so it isn't selected for.
Because of this it is very possible that a planet could exist where the environment simply doesn't incentivize being smart so there aren't any animals as smart as us.
