That Woman's Face. I mean you cannot take you eyes off off it. I really have never seen anyone with that much of a story in her face. She uses her entire face to tell the story of the song. She is beyond simply beautiful she is an icon.
She gets a lot of flak about having a thin voice. Her strength is in her wonderful phrasing. Like you say, she is able to tell a story and she never fights with the melody of the song with any ridiculous vocal acrobatics. If you listen to her songs from the Supremes era, her ability to vocally navigate through complex melodies is astounding. What she lacks in technique and whatever vocal deficiencies that people accuse her of, she manages to come across with a relatable human voice, sweet and distinctive. To be honest when she belts it out at the end of this song, she proves that she’s a talented vocalist. People always said that Flo Ballard had a better voice. maybe true but it wasn’t a commercial voice. It was more suited to gospel than to the pop tunes that sold millions. If Flo had sung lead on any of the Supreme’s hits, would they have been the trailblazing crossover hits that they were or would they have been dismissed as ‘black’ music and who knows what impact that would have had on the marketability of black artists nowadays. Diana Ross helped make music ‘colour blind’. It’s about time that she got credit for it.
@@mikeashtube you would have be borderline insane if you think that songs like Come See About Me and Stop and You Can't Hurry wouldn't have sold millions without Diane's singing.
She was in her perfect voice for this concert! Listen to those gorgeous, effortless low notes: "I wish I was back theeeeeere" Everyone seems to think of her for her high voice, but really, her magic was in those lower register too
She's fantastic. A very original work of vocal expression: the perfect diction, the maintenance on the tonality without apparent effort, the singular use of a fragile but paradoxically powerful vibrato, the rise in power over the last 30 seconds. And above all: emotion more than anything. Diana is an excellent singer despite what some critics say.
Not until Whitney came along that a black female singer has this kind of enunciation and clarity in her vocals. What Diana didn't have in power she possessed in tone. Diana has a magic that Aretha, Gladys, Patti, NEVER EVER HAD. Diana is a STAR.
I love this woman's voice though I'm by no means a die hard Diana Ross fan. And I love the original of this. But this has given me a whole new respect for this lady. She has a massive audience in front of her, an orchestra behind her and an opportunity to indulge her every vocal whim . . . and yet she does NOT overseeing this song but just delivers raw honest emotion. RESPECT to you, ma'am!! WOW
This is simply the BEST VERSION. Nothing beats the original. This is singing, with heart and telling a story. Not like the 1989 rendition which is full of shouting and just runs, no heart at all. Ms. Ross truly is the Boss!
This is the shit... easily Diana's best live performance... not known for her big vocal.... but nails it!!!!! She nails it halfway through I Ain't Been Licked at this concert and on One More Chance too...
Petite Black Girl from my Hometown Detroit❗ Diana Ross is the personification of Beauty, Great Talent & Elegance. Diana Ross you deserve all your accolades ❗
To say I am a fan is an understatement. She was a significant part of my childhood, a significant part of my young womanhood and even today at 64 I still love and appreciate her so very much!!!! Thank you Diana for the beauty you have brought to the world!!!!
Diana is what you call a 'total package" voice, charisma, glamour,elegance...the list goes on. Stephanie Mills has one of the best voices in R&B in the last 30yrs, and yet she still doesn't come close to this kind of STAR POWER.
Não me canso de ouvir essa gravação. Diana Ross possui uma voz tão doce e meiga mas, ao mesmo tempo, tão forte e com uma extensão vocal impressionante. Por isso uma artista única
Many years ago, I heard her sing this song at the Valley Forge Music Fair (no longer around) and the audience was on their feet by the song's end! Absolutely among my favorite songs....and a world full of love!!
This is the best version of this song out there.....Talk about singing with expression..WOW....Its also the way she pronounces here words ......No one like Diana Ross THE BOSS
Just listened to Stephanie's R&B version for the very first time today and while it's fine and melodic, this version as sung by this amazing and beautiful woman is simultaneously melancholic and uplifting, with each note conveying distinct emotions. This is why I come back every other month to just soak it in, shed a tear or two, then back to real life ready to roll.
I love Diana Ross!!! Ever since I was a child. I grew up with her!!! Diana There will never be another "Diana" I don't care how many Beyonce' and Janet jackson YOU were the first Diva!! and you have class and style something that a viedo can duplicate!! WE love you!!! Patricia
Diana Ross was ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT in the film verson of **THE WIZ**!!! Everything this Once in a lifetime magnificen't legendary woman does is pure incredible MAGIC! Bravo!
Wow.wow.wow.thank you diana ross.you are a true inspiration. What a singer.no need for vocal acrobatics here just sung with absolute emotion which no other female performer can come near to in my opinion.
DR's hit songs tend to be limited in range so I was pleasantly surprised when I heard her belt out this anthem for the first time in the movie. Awesome!.
this was just simply breathetaking and the musicians had me shouting. Ughhh the band did great. Ms. Diana you made me cry once again with this song. beautiful job.😽💞💞💞
BRAVA performance of HOME from The WIZ! When I think of home I think of a place where there's love overflowing I wish I was home I wish I was back there with the things I've been knowing Wind that makes the tall trees bend into leaning Suddenly the raindrops that fall have a meaning Sprinkling' the scene, makes it all clean Suddenly my world's gone and changed it's face But I still know where I'm going I have had my mind spun around in space And yet I've watched it growing Oh, If you're listening God Please don't make it hard to know If we should believe in things that we see Tell us, should we run away Should we try and stay Or would it be better just to let things be? Living here, in this brand new world Might be a fantasy But it taught me to love So it's real, real to me And I've learned That we must look inside our hearts to find A world full of love Like yours Like mine Like home...
steph and diana both amazing. Diana put more acting into this while performing live, and steph did more vocal gymnastics, bigger range than Diana but Diana has a tone that is amazing on her money notes, harmonic and unusual. One of a kind.
With all due respect to Diana Ross, she and the Supremes open doors for many of the African american singers to the mainstream. Ms. Ross has recorded some great music over the years, however, Stephanie Mills, was the first to record and perform "Home " in the original broadway play "The Wiz" at the age of 16. Stephanie, in my opinion sounds the best singing the song.
I've noticed diana is getting a lot more positive comments on her videos..there was a time a few yrs ago when people were attacking her on every video saying she couldn't sing.. etc.. glad those fools have moved on and diana is becoming really popular again or people are recognizing what an amazing talent she is.
Whenever I want to "visit" home, young adult and childhood years, this song brings back the belief and promise of lessons learned so long ago. Every now and then, I am young again, with the Faith of a child.
i love the way diana song this song she is the best an you right she did put alot of meaning into it love you miss ross your number fan keep up the good work girl
No need to compare the film version and thios. The film version is in the character of Dorothy; Ross is crying, sniffing, acting, emoting all over the place and yet singing, tears streaming and singing. This version is Ross' pure interpretation. She is loving the lyric and singing it making it her own. Superb rendition. I saw Stephanie Mills, live. She was great too.
Ms. Ross's version is the best. Just pure heart, no vocal acrobatics runs that is just mechanical. This is magic. The way she told the story makes me want to go back home right now.
When I think of home I think of a place, where there's love over-flowing. I wish I were home, I was back there, with the things I've been knowing. Wind that makes the tall trees bend into leaning, suddenly the snowflakes that fall have a meaning! Sprinkling the scene. Makes it all clean.
That Woman's Face. I mean you cannot take you eyes off off it. I really have never seen anyone with that much of a story in her face. She uses her entire face to tell the story of the song. She is beyond simply beautiful she is an icon.
Only Diana Ross can sing this song. Others have tried but she owns this one.
Why does this song make me cry like a baby everytime I hear it? I just cant stop the tears from flowing
Diana Ross makes singing effertless, just like talking to you, telling you a story gently. I think she reaches the highest level of singing.
ziran Chen exactly! She tells a story with her singing

@@mikeashtube For you info, those songs sold because they are pretty much Motowns best written (musically and lyrically) songs ever!
Punkanelly Lovejoy Okay! And she just belted the fuck out of that song! Thin voice my ass!
She was in her perfect voice for this concert! Listen to those gorgeous, effortless low notes: "I wish I was back theeeeeere"

She knocked that baby out of the ball park!

BRAVA performance of HOME from The WIZ!
When I think of home
I think of a place where there's love overflowing
I wish I was home
I wish I was back there with the things I've been knowing
Wind that makes the tall trees bend into leaning
Suddenly the raindrops that fall have a meaning
Sprinkling' the scene, makes it all clean
Suddenly my world's gone and changed it's face
But I still know where I'm going
I have had my mind spun around in space
And yet I've watched it growing
Oh, If you're listening God
Please don't make it hard to know
If we should believe in things that we see
Tell us, should we run away
Should we try and stay
Or would it be better just to let things be?
Living here, in this brand new world
