  • This is a 10-foot white shark that was patrolling up and down New Brighton State Beach when a swimmer passed through. The shark was just minding it's own business, warming-up, but we ended up letting the swimmer know that there was a large shark in the water that we were filming. Didn't want to cause a panic but felt we had a duty to act, even though shark warning signs are posted at this location. At any rate, these sharks like the shallows since the water is warm there and interactions with swimmers, surfers, boogie boarders and SUP are going to be inevitable.

There are numerous documented shark attacks where humans were consumed--not cases of mistaken identity with just a test bite, but the shark coming back multiple times taking chunks of flesh and ultimately consuming the entire person. This has been documented for bull sharks, oceanic white tips, tiger sharks and great whites. It might not happen often, but it does happen and it is absolutely brutal.

I cage dived (1st time ever) with great white sharks at Isla Guadalupe off of Baja, learned so much about them being that close and seeing how they reacted to us. The big adults are very wary and very reluctant to make any rash decisions, yet they were curious. Huge up close, the girth is just nuts. They were very gentle.. until the crew dropped a tuna head off the boat suspended by a rope about 10 yards from the cage. One shark dove straight down until we could not see it anymore, then rocketed straight back up and hit that tuna head with such force that we could feel the energy underwater. We watched the whole thing that close. They never bumped our cage or acted aggressively at all towards us. The crew said that particular shark (13 ft male) that hit the tuna like that shows up every year and does not disappoint.

SURFERS ARE IDIOTS, THEY ARE ALWAYS THE FIRST ONES BACK IN THE WATER AFTER A SHARK HAS BEEN SPOTTED, AND YOU TELL THEM TILL YOUR BLUE IN THE FACE THAT WET SUIT MAKES THEM LOOK LIKE A SEAL BUT THERE THEY ARE WEARING A BLACK ONE. I DONT FEEL SORRY FOR SURFERS WHEN THEY GET ATTACKED CAUSE PPL TELL THEM AND THEY DONT LISTEN. MANY OF THEM NEVER WENT VERY FAR IN THEIR EDUCATION CAUSE THERE IS NO WAY YOU ARE FURTHERING YOUR EDUCATION OR YOUR PROFFESSIONAL CAREER WHEN YOUR HANGING OFF A BOARD ALL DAY LONG 5-6 DAYS A WEEK. THEY LIVE ABOUT 10 TO A ROOM AND CAN STILL BARELY PAY THE RENT AND WORKING AS A CABANA BOY OR A SHORT ORDER COOK IN SOME DIVE ON THE BEACH AND IN CALIFORNIA IT IS AS EXPENSIVE AS IT GETS. MY ADVICE TO ANYONE LIVING IN CALIFORNIA WOULD BE TO LEAVE IT AS A RESULT OF
      1. OVER INFLATED HOUSING MARKET
      2. ITS FLOODED AND OVER RAN WITH ILLEGAL ALIENS FROM SOUTH OF THE BORDER
      3. OVER INFLATED RATES FOR CAR INSURANCE ( ESPECIALLY IF YOUR UNDER 25)
      4. TAXES ARE AMONG THE HIGHEST IN THE NATION
      5. ITS A 1 PARTY STATE THAT WAS RUINED BY THE NANCY PELOSI, WILLIE BROWN MACHINE
      6. WAY TO MANY BRAIN DEAD LIBERALS
      7. TO MANY POTHEADS
      8. THE HOMELESS POPULATION HAS MADE THE STATE UNLIVABLE IN BOTH S.F AND L.A
      9. THE WORST SHARK INFESTED WATERS IN AMERICA BETWEEN BODEGA BAY AND BIG SUR
      10. EARTHQUAKES, LANDSLIDES, WILDFIRES AND SO ON MAKE IT DANGEROUS TO LIVE IN

I remember seeing guys 1 km offshore swimming alone and thinking what a baboon !!! Why one would swim that far in Shark’s waters!! I don’t get it !!!!

The saddest part is, if the shark had attacked this swimmer, a shark hunt would have taken place to catch the culprit in which other sharks would also likely be killed. All because one selfish individual wanted to swim in known White shark territory - just swim somewhere else for God's sake

I am born and raised in Florida. I have experienced sharks in the water before but if I saw a warning sign or a sign that said no swimming, large sharks in area, I wouldn't even blink a thought about going in. Some people have succumbed to loss of brain cells because of too many illicit drugs, or possibly they are on euphoric feeling drugs. Either way, had this person been attacked or eaten, I would be extremely pissed off if the shark was blamed and a posse was sent to kill it. That shark was showing that person that he wasn't interested in eating dumbass human because he might consume some of the dumbass part of human, then have to live with dumbass-ism-20!!

Julie Edinger oh definitely, but as you probably also will agree on, if that white shark begins to attack the swimmer then that boat will not save him. He will be eaten or ripped to pieces before they reach him... Anyway like you said Dolphins I would also like to swim with. Orcas maybe not so much. Not even a tame one. They are big predators too. Remember that tamed orca that killed a few zookeepers way back. If they snap then they can destroy you like chew toy 😅

I grew up surfing in the L.A. area in the 1970s and moved to Santa Cruz in 1979. I think it was 1980 or 1981 when a surfer was killed by a shark at Spanish Bay in Monterey. Prior to this incident I never saw or barely thoughts of sharks when I was in the water. I have surfed at several spots up and down California where shark bites have occurred. Now I think about it every time I enter the water.

I used to work with a guy, in Santa Barbara, who made money selling drone footage of sharks near the beaches to local TV news crews. They'd pay him up to $500 a video. You would be shocked how often we are literally in the midst of those fish. However, he did say that it seems the young ones are just curious and he never saw them bump, bite, or attack anyone. Basically, according to him, if the shark was six feet or smaller, you were usually OK.

ROBERT I DONT KNOW WHERE YOU LIVED AT BEFORE SINCE YOUR POST IS 8 MOS OLD AND I AM SURE YOUR IN CALIFORNIA BY NOW, BUT CALIFORNIA IS NOT A TAX FRIENDLY STATE NOR DOES IT WELCOME WHITE MALES WHO ARE HARD WORKING, ESPECIALLY IN NANCY PELOSIS AND JERRY BROWNS SAN FRANCISCO AREA. IT IS A STATE OF HIGH TAXATION, PRO ILLEGAL ALIENS, OUTRAGEOUS HOUSING PRICES, SHARK INFESTED BEACHES ESPECIALLY IN THE RED TRIANGLE WHICH MONTERREY IS IN THE RED TRIANGLE. EARTHQUAKES, LANDSLIDES, FOREST FIRES( ESPECIALLY IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA) AND OTHER THINGS. I WOULD SUGGEST STATES LIKE TX, AZ, FLA, GA, N.C, JUST TO NAME A FEW. YES CALIFORNIA HAS SOME PHENOMINAL SCENERY TO LOOK AT BUT IT JUST IS NOT WORTH IT TO LIVE THERE, YOUR DOLLAR WILL NOT GO VERY FAR IN THAT STATE AND ALL OF MY STATEMENTS ARE 100% ACCURATE AND TRUE. THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY ALL THESE THINGS IN CALIFORNIA IS IF YOUR IN THE MILITARY AND YOUR STATIONED AT ONE OF THE MANY MILITARY INSTALLATIONS.
