White Shark Cruising Next to Swimmer off Aptos, Monterey Bay, California.

- This is a 10-foot white shark that was patrolling up and down New Brighton State Beach when a swimmer passed through. The shark was just minding it's own business, warming-up, but we ended up letting the swimmer know that there was a large shark in the water that we were filming. Didn't want to cause a panic but felt we had a duty to act, even though shark warning signs are posted at this location. At any rate, these sharks like the shallows since the water is warm there and interactions with swimmers, surfers, boogie boarders and SUP are going to be inevitable.
Swimming alone that far offshore in the "red triangle". Death Wish 5
He's lucky that shark wasn't hungry!
My friends and I would hop in our 3 man rubber raft with a 12 pack of beer and just float out there for hours .
Don't swim out of your depth
Lone swimmer EASY LUNCH...
Damn
So if I’m ever in the water and see a drone flying over head, I need to get the f out of the water....lesson learned!
Kitchdmn3 great lesson man.
Yup , that's me outta there 👍👍
KDMN Yeah!!!!
Hey, were you the dude in the water? If it wasn't you, do you know if the guy ever found out?
Would a siren be good or just make a swimmer freak out and splash too much? I think they’re better off not knowing
We should use drones for shark sporting and a warning system to alert swimmers of a shark
They do that for surfing events on the west coast
Duston Hampe Or shark week
They do in Australia it’s run through an app there are some videos on you tube it’s pretty cool
What I’ve learned from drone footage is that there are sharks swimming around surfers and swimmers all the time and chances are I’ve been in much closer to a shark than I ever knew. I’m not sure if this is scary or reassuring.
same, as a surfer, i wonder how many times we have nearly been dinner.. or breakfast..
Reassuring. They don't want to eat us
Well you need to remember that these are clips chosen precisely because the sharks are near the swimmers and surfers - what about all the footage where there are none to be seen? Although apparently sharks rest in the waves to take in more oxygen.
@@countryroadstakemehome by the looks of these drone footages, absolutely every time your out there! Just think of them like a gigantic curious puppor
@@EE-hi4re Some do. There are numerous documented shark attacks where humans were consumed--not cases of mistaken identity with just a test bite, but the shark coming back multiple times taking chunks of flesh and ultimately consuming the entire person. This has been documented for bull sharks, oceanic white tips, tiger sharks and great whites. It might not happen often, but it does happen and it is absolutely brutal.
It's just a matter of time until we get to see drone footage of someone actually getting eaten by a shark.
Fingers crossed
Kevinohanlon oh it’s coming but we’ll have to go somewhere else besides RUclips to see it. Liveleak would be my go to
Jesse James theync my friend
Jesse James bestgore, theync, goregrish and shockgore. Warning....don't say I didn't warn you before checking these sites out 🤷🏻♂️
brandon leclair oh yeah I forgot about goregrish too. The others ones are new to me👍I’ll go check them out ty
Nearest hospital Is named CHOMP. No joke. Community Hospital Of the Monterey Peninsula.
What? For real? Lol
This guy's lucky that shark didn't take a Chomp out of him...
Where's the closest trauma hospital?
Not true. THIS is not even in Monterey county dude. It's in Santa Cruz
Hahahahaha
If you swim that fare out your at the bottom of the food chain and are asking to become food.
Its Monterey bay. It has little to do with how far you swim there are sharks everywhere and quite frankly this person wasn't even far off shore. It's the location. It be like swimming off seal Island you're gonna see a shark nearby.
I get it, you wanna exercise. They have lap pools at the YMCA. Love my lake Superior, only friendly fish and freshwater.
You do know they caught a 6 foot bull shark in the great lakes on more than one occasion... and don sea lampreys live in 2 of the great lakes...
You cant live in fear all the time or you would never leave your house
Ps swimming in the ocean is far more fun than swimming at the YMCA, so is scuba diving and spear fishing
Bullsharks
Bull sharks have never been caught in any of the Great Lakes at any point in time they would die in hours from water temperature however the Mississippi River is another story
What about crocs?
He lucky that shark was in a good mood!
I don't go into the sea because of these magnificent beasts I ain't a snack beautiful beasts tho
They stay out my yard in return I stay out their yard we got an understanding
Murky water, lone swimmer, just far enough offshore, fishermen nearby. Amazingly lucky person....
Not really, whites as long as they can take a look at us don't see us as food. We're too small and boney, not enough calories. They are looking for almost 1,000 pound seals with a lot of blubber. There is a girl who is famous for swimming with white sharks without a cage, and even grabbing their fins.
@@punkem733 yeah I hear ya but they still could do the bite test which could be devastating
@@cd5908 true. The thing is I'm sure u know the bite is a way to see what something is, since they have no hands. Look at the size and jaws of a white shark. We should never, ever survive an attack by one really, yet something like 93-96% of all white attack are not fatal which is incredible, but shows they don't see us as food. Most attacks are when people are laying on their surfboards and when u look up it looks like their fav food seals
@@punkem733 yeah your absolutely right
PUNKem733 very good point!!
I cage dived (1st time ever) with great white sharks at Isla Guadalupe off of Baja, learned so much about them being that close and seeing how they reacted to us. The big adults are very wary and very reluctant to make any rash decisions, yet they were curious. Huge up close, the girth is just nuts. They were very gentle.. until the crew dropped a tuna head off the boat suspended by a rope about 10 yards from the cage. One shark dove straight down until we could not see it anymore, then rocketed straight back up and hit that tuna head with such force that we could feel the energy underwater. We watched the whole thing that close. They never bumped our cage or acted aggressively at all towards us. The crew said that particular shark (13 ft male) that hit the tuna like that shows up every year and does not disappoint.
I watched a shark bite my friend Girth's nuts
Yeah they're very gentle so gentle you need to say how gentle they are in a protective cage. Delusional
There is a drone video of a huge shark attacking a seal. The speed of the attack is absolutely astonishing. If an agile seal didn't stand a chance no human ever will. This shark could have ended that swimmer in 5 seconds but it didn't.
Serious question here: why would a person of say, just average intelligence and non suicidal swim so far off the beach in an area known to be frequented by great white sharks? Please, enlighten me.
He could have attacked the swimmer by now. They are lucky it's not their time to be a meal. Very lucky
Probably a juvenile GW and they much prefer fish until they get big enough to tackle seals.
Shark: Hello welcome to Ocean amusement park, how may I help you?
Man: Three tickets, please.
Shark: Okay that’ll be an arm and a leg.
Man: Wait what?
Shark: *proceeds to bite off an arm and a leg from the man* Thank you.
Funny. Would be funnier without the last line explaining the joke.
Yes and make the shark park atendent Bruce from memo lol.
Is this a real conversation?
" the shark was just minding its own business warming up" if a great white shark is following underneath me while I'm swimming that's not minding its own business he is questioning if it should eat me or as scientist like to say "take a sample bite" to see if I'm worth eating.
Ice cold Monterey Bay (freezing even in the summer) is ALWAYS infested with great white sharks!
I surfed 3-5 times a week in Ventura, CA for about 10 years. The scariest part is knowing this happened to me at least once and I never even realized it.
Scary, or reassuring, in that white sharks really aren't out there to get you. We have a lot of de-programming on ourselves to do...
SURFERS ARE IDIOTS, THEY ARE ALWAYS THE FIRST ONES BACK IN THE WATER AFTER A SHARK HAS BEEN SPOTTED, AND YOU TELL THEM TILL YOUR BLUE IN THE FACE THAT WET SUIT MAKES THEM LOOK LIKE A SEAL BUT THERE THEY ARE WEARING A BLACK ONE. I DONT FEEL SORRY FOR SURFERS WHEN THEY GET ATTACKED CAUSE PPL TELL THEM AND THEY DONT LISTEN. MANY OF THEM NEVER WENT VERY FAR IN THEIR EDUCATION CAUSE THERE IS NO WAY YOU ARE FURTHERING YOUR EDUCATION OR YOUR PROFFESSIONAL CAREER WHEN YOUR HANGING OFF A BOARD ALL DAY LONG 5-6 DAYS A WEEK. THEY LIVE ABOUT 10 TO A ROOM AND CAN STILL BARELY PAY THE RENT AND WORKING AS A CABANA BOY OR A SHORT ORDER COOK IN SOME DIVE ON THE BEACH AND IN CALIFORNIA IT IS AS EXPENSIVE AS IT GETS. MY ADVICE TO ANYONE LIVING IN CALIFORNIA WOULD BE TO LEAVE IT AS A RESULT OF
1. OVER INFLATED HOUSING MARKET
2. ITS FLOODED AND OVER RAN WITH ILLEGAL ALIENS FROM SOUTH OF THE BORDER
3. OVER INFLATED RATES FOR CAR INSURANCE ( ESPECIALLY IF YOUR UNDER 25)
4. TAXES ARE AMONG THE HIGHEST IN THE NATION
5. ITS A 1 PARTY STATE THAT WAS RUINED BY THE NANCY PELOSI, WILLIE BROWN MACHINE
6. WAY TO MANY BRAIN DEAD LIBERALS
7. TO MANY POTHEADS
8. THE HOMELESS POPULATION HAS MADE THE STATE UNLIVABLE IN BOTH S.F AND L.A
9. THE WORST SHARK INFESTED WATERS IN AMERICA BETWEEN BODEGA BAY AND BIG SUR
10. EARTHQUAKES, LANDSLIDES, WILDFIRES AND SO ON MAKE IT DANGEROUS TO LIVE IN
AND THIS IS WHAT MAKES CALIFORNIA UNLIVABLE ON MANY SCALES.
@@theanswerisinthebackofyourhead don’t know about you. You are one scared dude. The type of dude not built for California. Glad you left.

That was actually terrifying to watch. The swimmer was too far away from shore to reach in time if the shark really went in for the kill.
So, the swimmer didn’t see the shark? It’s a good thing that was a friendly shark! But why would someone want to swim so far out in the water to begin with?! 🦈😳
Shannon, the swimmer did not see the shark and we had to warn them. They were not that far offshore, you can get an idea with the quick pan to the beach. Just outside the surf zone.
Eric Mailander oh ok, thanks. I see now how he isn’t as far out as he appears to be, which makes it even more scarier!
@Pete Darby Thank you Pete. Felt like I had a duty to act but didn't want to cause a panic at the same time.
yea me and the ocean are done. i'll just appreciate it from the shore
😂🤣😂 You call that a shark? Here in Australia we’d name that little cutie something like Fluffy or Snuggles and keep him in the bath tub! Shark...🤣😂🤣
Lol
😂😂😂 I’m dying!! Everything is Australia kills you. Can’t even pet a blue ringed cutie octopus without dying. F the sharks, those damn things are monsters.
It's big enough to kill someone
Chad Durgin You’re spot on mate any 2 year old kids swimming there should be very careful 👍🏻
plane furor You’re not wrong mate pretty much everything here wants to sting, bite, paralyse or eat you it’s never boring 😁
Dats Monterey Bay nicca! This person doesn’t watch shark week!
Your telling me that guy did not notice the 12 foot MONSTER right below him!!??
Almost like watching the first 5 minutes of Jaws, from an aerial view.
WOW he was lucky! Some people don't think much about it swimming out far, but I hope they get to watch this video.
Swimming in Monterey Bay during White Shark Season is insane.
!00 Percent!
Liberals are insane
Clearly the shark shows interest....
Obviously by the size it was a juvenile GW . Luckily, he wasn't too "curious" to take a bite.
GW is short for George Washington
if you see a drone hovering over the ocean it would probably be a good idea to get out of water, drones dont hover unless they are looking at something
why anyone feels compelled to swim in the ocean is beyond me. its not what we are designed to do and not our habitat
I was born and raised in Monterey, my dad in Pajaro Dunes. He as well as my grandfather fished and surfed in this area, Del Monte Beach and Seaside all the freaking time. No way. I've moved when I go back to visit always stay one shore. My father surfed over two of them in the Seaside area. This beach has always had a quick drop reminds me of Monastery Beach in Carmel.
This one scares the shit out of me. That big shadow floating under the swimmer. That's a nightmare.
Wtf is this man crazy
That swimmer seems a little weird. Maybe he attempted suicide by shark.
So careless! Never a thought that they could be in danger and then surprised when it happens. These are big sharks out here. You're lucky to swim another day and every time you get in the water it's possible that could happen. Kayakers too.
Shit , my popcorn just wasted , i thought i will see shark getting brunch
The shark was chilling seeing if someone needed help then realized the human was fine....
California's red triangle stretches from BODEGA bay california to big sur. The water is the most dangerous and a high likelihood of white sharks lurking around. my advice is just wade in that water, anything past your knees is TAKING a chance. I myself am a golfer, not a swimmer unless it's a swimming pool and don't have to worry about sharks.
So the drone guys dont bother calling anyone for help - they instead just want views ? I see
2ndTim32 he tried to call him but his number was busy 🙈
@2ndTim32 He said that he did take the drone down to him and told him there was a large shark under him.
Mr. Self-righteous detected! Get a life, idiot!
@ wow, another lowlife scumbag, wont even lift a finger to help others.
Help? Why? The shark was just doing it’s thing not bothering anyone.
Clearly twice the swimmers size easy a 10 footer

@@MikeG-l6d He's gonna need a bigger boat...
Mike o' Glen she’s gonna need a bigger wetsuit!

Inches?
Would be a different story if it was a bull shark
Ashley Baggio absolutely. Unless he just ate cause we have to take all that also in to account. But even a Tiger Shark mildly hungry might have turned out differently
Haha.. why. I’ve had both bull sharks and tiger sharks casually swim under me.. I never felt threatened let alone even considered food. Maybe luck... but ive had 2 bull sharks go under me and 2 tiger sharks. All seperate occasions. One bull shark in about 1.5m deep water too. It was casual. I wasn’t.
Pete Darby but they don’t Always attack... I surf a lot and spear fish occasionally , you obviously dive a bit, but how many times have you seen bulls and tigers?.. even if they’re hungry it’s generally juvenile sharks who bite into a human.you’d have to be pretty unlucky... also I’m talking about east coast Aus. We don’t have orcas.. most likely things are a little different where I’m from
@Pete Darby wow! Respect🙏
I think, the water is too cold for bull sharks.
I'm curious, as we only see a shadow of it, how do you tell that it's a great white? Is it the size, the shape, a know location for gw?
The shape and the location. Definitely a great white.
northern california waters,,, lots of big whites
That person was freakin lucky. Wow.
Blessed!
Watching the video of Simon Nellist that got killed & eaten by a great white shark in little bay Australia gives me nightmares poor guy didn’t stand a chance, this guys lucky that the shark wasn’t either hungry or not interested either way when you swim in the sharks home you’re risking your life,
I've seen a lot of sharks in shallow water over the years but luckily, only one attack past December, beach was packed and water was filled with people. Shark lifted a boy rite out the water, kid was lucky... Everyone was lucky that day. But like I said, all the times I see sharks a d only once a shark attack
Sheesh guy is way to far out! Very lucky! Reminds of the man Simon from Australia. 😣
The swimmer is all alone, don't think surfers gatherings deters a GW. Think it's related to their personality and how hungry they are that they will attack
You have to have some guts to swim that far out in California…. Talk about lucky
Imagine looking down & seeing that?
F' THAT!!!!😂😂
Google Deb Franzman. This could have been a repeat.
When I lived in Sydney I used to go in the rocks on the left side if you are on the the beach facing the sea
I remember watching the sea and thinking those waters are great white territory in fact on few occasions the speaker told people to stay out of water because of shark sightins
I remember seeing guys 1 km offshore swimming alone and thinking what a baboon !!! Why one would swim that far in Shark’s waters!! I don’t get it !!!!
Then if shark attacks persons they kill it !!!pisses me off
I would never swim deep out in the red triangle alone
The saddest part is, if the shark had attacked this swimmer, a shark hunt would have taken place to catch the culprit in which other sharks would also likely be killed. All because one selfish individual wanted to swim in known White shark territory - just swim somewhere else for God's sake
That person has not a brain to be swimming that far out.. lucky that shark was full or didn't attack. Why? Because it knew it wasn't a seal, a seal would have swam away and freaked out. Lucky sitting duck
I know the swimmer did not see it, but could you imagine if you looked down and saw that swimming up under you? Time to pick a new hobby dude!
I am born and raised in Florida. I have experienced sharks in the water before but if I saw a warning sign or a sign that said no swimming, large sharks in area, I wouldn't even blink a thought about going in. Some people have succumbed to loss of brain cells because of too many illicit drugs, or possibly they are on euphoric feeling drugs. Either way, had this person been attacked or eaten, I would be extremely pissed off if the shark was blamed and a posse was sent to kill it. That shark was showing that person that he wasn't interested in eating dumbass human because he might consume some of the dumbass part of human, then have to live with dumbass-ism-20!!
How do you blink a thought?
Don’t understand why people have to swim that far from the beach and then alone…even the chance of an attack is low, but they still give it the best opportunity.
Sussing out her vibrational frequency too
What is this person actually thinking?
Jake Heckler the answer is. Not thinking. But I guess it is natures way of getting rid of dumb people. Natural selection... I doubt he/she will continue to be this lucky in the future.
Exactly what I want to know. They seemed to actually swim straight at the shark. What the hell man!?
Honestly I’m guessing that boat near by is their’s with a person to help if need be... what a “huge” risk person is taking. I wouldn’t mind swimming with dolphins or orcas!!
Julie Edinger oh definitely, but as you probably also will agree on, if that white shark begins to attack the swimmer then that boat will not save him. He will be eaten or ripped to pieces before they reach him... Anyway like you said Dolphins I would also like to swim with. Orcas maybe not so much. Not even a tame one. They are big predators too. Remember that tamed orca that killed a few zookeepers way back. If they snap then they can destroy you like chew toy 😅
Reynard Cortez my point to people is don’t act surprised if they attack. They are not pets.
Someone needs to make a bracelet that relays to a drone and warns you with beeps that go faster when your about to swim intothe mouth of Jaws.🐟 maybe a video hook up too.
or ya know.....dont swim in deep water in known shark waters?
Most people would panic, which could trigger a predator response in the shark.
It's not even paying attention to the swimmer
Wrong. It’s stalking him
Wrong, it did a semi circle around the swimmer. Luckily for him, it didn't try the bite test and just kept going.
Juan José Del Pino Rivas yes, good thing it was only stalking and not hunting, this time
It definitely hung around that swimmer...lucky for him didn’t do a bite test....
Julie Edinger this time. I’m a shark week expert viewer and I know what a hot bed place Monterey Bay is for big great whites, this person was lucky.
It looks like he's wearing a life vest and a snorkel. And it looks like the water is pulling him to deeper waters.
He's snorkeling in shark infested water: be careful what you may see. And it ain't Nemo. Don't think is local.
While diving, I was bit by a small fish while feeding him bread balls that I had prepacked. I bled all over the place.
Omg... Omg.... Oh my gawd!!
Darn you didn't get the chomp shot you where look'n for / THANK GOD !!!!
Is he swimming in a pair of jeans and running shoes?
Who knows. Kinda looks like it.
Good thing this shark is not hungry that could have been a breakfast to the max hihi
I grew up surfing in the L.A. area in the 1970s and moved to Santa Cruz in 1979. I think it was 1980 or 1981 when a surfer was killed by a shark at Spanish Bay in Monterey. Prior to this incident I never saw or barely thoughts of sharks when I was in the water. I have surfed at several spots up and down California where shark bites have occurred. Now I think about it every time I enter the water.
That surfer was me
I used to work with a guy, in Santa Barbara, who made money selling drone footage of sharks near the beaches to local TV news crews. They'd pay him up to $500 a video. You would be shocked how often we are literally in the midst of those fish. However, he did say that it seems the young ones are just curious and he never saw them bump, bite, or attack anyone. Basically, according to him, if the shark was six feet or smaller, you were usually OK.

ROBERT I DONT KNOW WHERE YOU LIVED AT BEFORE SINCE YOUR POST IS 8 MOS OLD AND I AM SURE YOUR IN CALIFORNIA BY NOW, BUT CALIFORNIA IS NOT A TAX FRIENDLY STATE NOR DOES IT WELCOME WHITE MALES WHO ARE HARD WORKING, ESPECIALLY IN NANCY PELOSIS AND JERRY BROWNS SAN FRANCISCO AREA. IT IS A STATE OF HIGH TAXATION, PRO ILLEGAL ALIENS, OUTRAGEOUS HOUSING PRICES, SHARK INFESTED BEACHES ESPECIALLY IN THE RED TRIANGLE WHICH MONTERREY IS IN THE RED TRIANGLE. EARTHQUAKES, LANDSLIDES, FOREST FIRES( ESPECIALLY IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA) AND OTHER THINGS. I WOULD SUGGEST STATES LIKE TX, AZ, FLA, GA, N.C, JUST TO NAME A FEW. YES CALIFORNIA HAS SOME PHENOMINAL SCENERY TO LOOK AT BUT IT JUST IS NOT WORTH IT TO LIVE THERE, YOUR DOLLAR WILL NOT GO VERY FAR IN THAT STATE AND ALL OF MY STATEMENTS ARE 100% ACCURATE AND TRUE. THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY ALL THESE THINGS IN CALIFORNIA IS IF YOUR IN THE MILITARY AND YOUR STATIONED AT ONE OF THE MANY MILITARY INSTALLATIONS.
Here's a thought. . There are sharks and creatures bigger than sharks in the water so DON'T GO IN THE FUCKING WATER. . Just a thought
I'm sorry but I gotta be straight... how dumb can one be.? This is California. If that shark whackd that swimmer, it would've been good night John Boy - and it'd be the swimmer's fault 💯%
Why swim that far out.
The swimmer is even wearing a mask and snorkel!!! I can't believe he/she never saw the shark!!! :O
Only reason that person hadn't gotten attacked is because that animal was probably already full of full belly
Boy is that person lucky...that could have been a disaster 😝. The shark possibly was giving birth or super constipated...that few seconds. That was almost the ingrediant of shit soup !!
White Shark populations are exploding in the Central CA, what nut would be swimming several hundred yards from shore in Monterey Bay?
Another example of sharks not hunting humans. Also another example of if you see a drone above you... he isn’t filming you
That swimmer is a newb. No experienced open water swimmer wears a freestyle snorkel in open water. Nor do they go out in well known "sharky spots" without a group. Safety in numbers.
DEFINITELY checked them out. Wild stuff 😳 I went to a boarding school in Monterey Bay and I was always a little nervous when we would go surfing
If this doesn't advocate that sharks aren't mindless killing machines I'm out. That thing could fuck that swimmer up if it wanted.
A bloke swimming near a great white, some people writing on here are gob smacked, and some people say it’s just the normal we no they are out there it’s Australia.......I’m not shocked at all. They are opinions
Floundering around on top of open water isn't swimming. It's baiting. Only a matter of time.
We are NOT on their diets !!! :)))
Sometimes we are :(
Sharks prefer Seals and porpoises, Humans are too Bony!!. If you think of how many folks are swimming RIGHT NOW somewhere in the world where there are sharks, and compare those numbers with how few people are actually attacked. I speak as a frequent Scuba and Snorkel Diver off the coast of Perth WA🇦🇺. Folks, it's time to get educated about Shark behaviour, try to forget about the movies!! JAWS was not a documentary.
Sarah Hughes yeah yeah, that’s all good and mostly true but the fact is we still ARE a nice snack for them sometimes :(
We are on their diet sometimes.
That going to be 1 human k um u want fries wit dat? They get eaten then missing limbs they still say "I wouldn't have done anything different. Go right back in it cuz I don't mind dyn doing what I love". 🤦
Why would you ever swim in the ocean like this? If you have to, swim closer to shore. Lucky it wasn’t hungry.
Pretty much you have to accept being part of the food chain when you enter the WIld, the wilderness home of bears and wolves, or the ocean home of the sharks, the sea snakes, the Japanese and Russian Whalers. Watch out for them too. They might be shooting at the whale next to you and just bad luck.
Just a proof that great white sharks are not cold blooded killers. This man is careless and extremely lucky
That's actually exactly what they are. Except great whites are actually warm blooded.
See the size of that brown trout tailing the swimmer?? Massive.
Every single shark attack scientist like to put a picture on it of why the shark attacked and why it was not the sharks fault but never do you hear that it's a freaking shark and sometimes they're going to eat people just like bears and Lions and that's the truth.
drone operator is thinking how much money he will make on you tube if he get a close up shark attack , they should have notified the swimmer immediately not wait for 2 min
