Dog Jumps Off Boat with Dolphins
Просмотров 7744 года назад
My puppy was so excited seeing bow-riding dolphins that she decided to jump in with them! This happened 13 miles out of Moss Landing on the outer Monterey Bay as I was filming the dolphins with my GoPro. I was lucky that I left her harness on as I had something to grab onto when I rescued her. The dolphins circled her as she dog-paddled toward the boat knowing she was in distress or just curiou...

Friendly Grey Whale Encounter Monterey Bay

This friendly grey whale popped up unexpectedly near my boat as I was filming humpback whales with my drone and hung out with me for about half an hour! Very curious and friendly, particularly interested with my barking puppy! The whale swam off three times briefly and came back every time. This has been my most amazing encounter with whales.

Salmon Shark Entangled
Просмотров 2895 лет назад
I spotted this 6-foot salmon shark last Spring in the Monterey Bay that was snagged by a hook, line and salmon flasher. I assumed it went after a hooked salmon and broke off after becoming snagged. Or maybe it is trolling on its own for salmon? I believe this is the first drone footage of a salmon shark in the Monterey Bay. A week later I found another one!

White Shark Investigating Kayakers

White Shark In Shallows
Просмотров 6 тыс.5 лет назад
This juvenile white shark came within perhaps 20 yards of a child on a boogie board, playing in the surf at New Brighton Beach....probably the "sharkiest" beach in California right now. I believe the child was in no danger as the white sharks that frequent the area are finding warm water pockets near shore. The drone alerted the child to vacate the surf so all good.

    Only reason that person hadn't gotten attacked is because that animal was probably already full of full belly

    Don’t understand why people have to swim that far from the beach and then alone…even the chance of an attack is low, but they still give it the best opportunity.

    I cage dived (1st time ever) with great white sharks at Isla Guadalupe off of Baja, learned so much about them being that close and seeing how they reacted to us. The big adults are very wary and very reluctant to make any rash decisions, yet they were curious. Huge up close, the girth is just nuts. They were very gentle.. until the crew dropped a tuna head off the boat suspended by a rope about 10 yards from the cage. One shark dove straight down until we could not see it anymore, then rocketed straight back up and hit that tuna head with such force that we could feel the energy underwater. We watched the whole thing that close. They never bumped our cage or acted aggressively at all towards us. The crew said that particular shark (13 ft male) that hit the tuna like that shows up every year and does not disappoint.

    We are not a "mistaken identity" as soooooooo many types of people want to say. The ocean is their domain. They know exactly what is in their domain. What to attack and what to stay away from. White pointers are not blind. As all predators, be it lions, sharks, whatever...they take out the weak, old and slow prey. We are a slow moving meal. We may not be their choice on their menu, like a steak dinner, but if they are hungry and don't want to expend a lot of energy on trying to catch a fast seal. They will attack us. Go check out "Sharks Happen" RUclips channel. Hal, tells it like it is, and doesn't bs you with hidden agendas and political reasons for why the White pointers DO attack humans. Some attacks are territorial: get out of my area. Some attacks are to predate.

    • @Fractalite
      @Fractalite 2 года назад

      In the Sydney attack the swimmer ticked all the boxes for interacting with a large shark. Swimming across a know deepwater channel. Wearing a black wetsuit , swimming in water where big swell reduced visibility right down and apparently the fisherman reported at the time of the attck the sea was boiling with bait fish which would have attracted the large shark. He was incredibly unlucky ( first fatality around Sydney in 60 years).

    I grew up surfing in the L.A. area in the 1970s and moved to Santa Cruz in 1979. I think it was 1980 or 1981 when a surfer was killed by a shark at Spanish Bay in Monterey. Prior to this incident I never saw or barely thoughts of sharks when I was in the water. I have surfed at several spots up and down California where shark bites have occurred. Now I think about it every time I enter the water.
