  • www.autobytel.c... The Volkswagen Golf has never been “just another hatchback” or an “econobox” rather the Golf can be considered a premium hatch thanks to its German Engineering. This Golf is special thanks to its 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine under the hood. There are 150 horsepower and a whopping 236 lb-ft. of torque coming from this small diesel powerplant. With a 6-speed manual you can expect 30 MPG in the City and 45 MPG on the highway. The other transmission option is a DSG automatic which nets 31 MPG in the city and 43 MPG on the highway. The base model of the 2015 VW Golf TDI is the S which starts at $21,995.
    Owning a Diesel powered hatchback depends on the type of driving you do. If you are big on highway driving and rack up the miles during long distance drives then there is nothing that beats the diesel when it comes to efficiency.

    My wife and I each own 2012 VW Golf TDI's (purchased in 2011) and each has performed flawlessly (both approaching 40,000 miles). These cars are awesome! We get close to 40 mpg just buzzing around town. On the highway, we've achieved up to 59 mpg, and mind you, this is with the previous rendition of this engine. We couldn't be more pleased with our purchase, the fuel economy, and the fun-to-drive factor. I love the characteristics of the diesel engine so much, we'll likely never again own a gasoline engine car. VW makes an excellent product here.

    I have a 2012 Golf TDI 6 Speed manual 4 door. I love it, the most MPG I have gotten so far was coming from Texas to NC, roughly 1163 Mile trip, was 57.6 MPG..I have pictures of it. I was shocked other than that, I usually average 43-47 mpg driving around the Charlotte NC area. I bought it used in 2013 with 12300 miles on the clock and have put 32K miles on it now. No problems at all. A lot of people say they have problems, but knock on wood, I haven't had any. I personally don't favor the 2015 Golfs built-in look of the Stereo and AC/Heater control knobs, IMO. Me and my wife are STILL WAITING FOR VW TO BRING OVER THE "TIGUAN TDI 4-MOTION".. ARE YOU LISTENING VW... If you do, we will definitely trade our golf in on the Tiguan TDI.

      I'm a long time fan of TDIs. I agree. A TDI Tiguan would be a perfect offering. The higher ride height of the Tiguan makes for effortless entry and egress for us older folks. The fuel efficiency of the Diesel would be much appreciated over the dreadful MPG stats for the gasoline engine currently offered. And offering an all-wheel drive option is a no-brainer.

    The DSG has been around for a while now,,and nobody tells how expensive the DSG is to maintain properly every 30,000 miles! NOBODY talks about this! Go with a manual Diesel for reliability!

    I think the price shown at the end was for the base TDi. The SEL adds much to the cost and the car gets close to $30,000 with taxes - pricey for a subcompact hatch. The base TDi is a bargain for what you get if you don't mind the standard seat and stereo sans the sunroof. And 45-plus MPG is a penny saver, even with the increased cost of diesel over gasoline.

    should i go with diesel?

    • @JM-qz1yk
      @JM-qz1yk 9 лет назад +1

      The most important consideration is the kind of driving you do. TDI is for moderate to long rides on highways and country roads. TSI is for stop and go urban driving. Gas accelerates better from the full stop. Diesel cruises better at speeds on flats. Also, mountains and low temps in your area? Choose gas. The other differences like the torsion beam rear suspension on the TDI are much less important consideration. Monthly fuel costs are similar in the USA market.

      ***** I agree, I would not want anything other than TDI for driving around town. Stay easy on the throttle and you can easily get 38-40mph in the city. I drive around Charlotte, NC all the time and get that on average.

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives 9 лет назад +3

      Arturo Alvarez All TDI models require diesel fuel. Once you go diesel, you never go back. A TDI is ideal for road trips and highway commuters. You get your money's worth when you plan to put 15k+ miles per year on your car.

    The MQB also has a downgraded rear suspension on the diesels, it has a twist beam rear axle, the MK 6 and MK 5 have independent rear suspension, which is better
    Since the MK 7 uses DEF, they had to make room for the DEF tank, hence the change
    The older cars will have slightly better handling due to the IRS

    • @asksmeq3883
      @asksmeq3883 4 года назад

      MacTechG4 while it’s true that the suspension is just a torsion bar, I actually found the handling better on mk7, it feels more planted on sharp turns

      The Mk7 European models; petrols, diesels (without SCR), plug-in hybrids, electrics and diesels with AdBlue SCR (DEF in the USA) all have multi-link rear suspension excluding Mk7 Golfs' with under 147hp (110 kW) output with front-wheel drive. They have a torsion beam rear axle.

    BUYERS of DSG TRANSMISSIONS FOR TDI's BEWARE: I spoke to a VW dealer in CA, and confirmed that DSG transmissions require a fluid replacement service at about 35,000 or 40,000 miles. The COST IS ABOUT $450.00! YES, Four Hundred and Fifty Dollars!! And it is NOT covered under the warranty. This is an out-of-pocket expense. Note that this service is NOT needed on the manual transmission -- ONLY THE DSG for TDI GOLFs and TDI PASSATs.
    Additionally, it's not the kind of service that can simply be done by the average person. You'd actually need the technical tools and know-how of a VW mechanic to conduct this service.
    That's a large out-of-pocket cost that VW DEALERS HIDE THIS INFORMATION FROM BUYERS. IN FACT, SOME VW SALESMEN ARE UNAWARE OF THIS. I personally had to go straight to the service department at the dealership to confirm this, and they indicated the need for this service on ALL of their DSG transmissions.
    I find it rather unethical, and rather SLY for dealers not to mention this fact.

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives 9 лет назад +3

      Michael DeGuzman DSG is a dual-clutch setup with wet clutches. That fluid must be replaced at 40k miles. Interestingly, other manufacturers have similar needs at 35k mies, and I'm talking about the front wheel drive joke called Mercedes CLA 250.

    "The 2015 Golf (MK.7) takes it up more than a notch" ?? I don't know about that one. Compare the new MK7 Golf to the older MK6 Golf and it's a downgrade in many ways. A) It's no longer made in Germany for the USA market. B) Even though the Golf is now made in Mexico we don't see any price savings. In fact VW cheaps out on a few things for the USA market compared to Europe. Things like smaller Stereo/Nav screen and harder door plastics in the rear. Of course there are still features the USA will never get at any price that Europe does get. C) The addition of the Ad Blue tank in the TDI. D) The TDI model no longer has rear independent suspension. E) Even though the MK. 7 Golf is bigger the gas tank loses 1.3 gallons of capacity. F) Some cheaper stamped metal pieces are now used. G) The Golf loses a 1/2 inch of headroom, not good for taller people.

Secondly, you are not even a nurse yet and I am doubting you will be goal oriented enough to be able to finish your degree. Thirdly, a nurse should be caring, understanding, and patient with others. The way you fly off the handle on simple youtube comments, the language you use, just shows how unfit you are for that job right now. At the very least you are very immature and I hope you grow out of the way your acting now so you can follow your dreams. Good luck

    Don't touch this piece of crap,unless you want to be in the garage every other week with it. Totally unreliable, the emission system is a Heath Robinson affair - 02 sensors, particulate filter,catalytic convertor, EGV valve, temp sensor all unreliable. I'm currently driving with a blown catalytic converter at 35k miles. Appalling engineering.

    If you want one, LEASE one.

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives 9 лет назад +3

      Ivan Vojt A lease is not ideal on diesels. TDI models are capable of traveling long distances and are usually racking up miles. A lease limits you to 30k-40k miles over your "ownership" period. Why do that when you can own it and go as far as you please? I put 115k miles on a mk5 Jetta TDI in 30 months, and sold it for more than the gasoline versions with 60k miles.

    • @MechRider89
      @MechRider89 7 лет назад +3

      Leasing is about the stupidest thing you can do for any vehicle. Your just throwing away money. Buy instead, especially if its a VW diesel, best diesel cars in north america.

  • @FelixArdLykke

    this model is the worst to own. Engine light turn on and particel filter broke the cost to fix EGR valve 1500 Euro. Avoid VW Golf the worst cars on the market. The worst thing is that exhaust from engine coming in the cabin risk to poisson the driver! VW should be responsible for this issue !!!
