- FIRST LOOK: The Impreza is all new for 2024 & Subaru mad some big changes. On the outside there is a new look, wheels, and colors. On the inside there is an optional 11.6in infotainment screen. Under the hood is a 2.0L flat-4 that produces 152HP & is mated to a CVT. Is the NEW 2024 Subaru Impreza a BETTER hatchback to buy than a Mazda 3?

@@Unchainedmaple888 Crosstrek 2.4 turbo would fit in nicely with their lineup. The Wilderness Crosstrek would be excellent with this powertrain. Price it around $33k and it won't compete too much with the WRX. For those who want mostly street performance, WRX. For those who want a lifted rugged compact wagon, Crosstrek. For the love of god Subaru, make this happen!
I’m liking the Impreza. Waiting for the road test review of the RS. Yes, yes, CVT, but in every other way it hits the mark. Looks like good value for the money and as a Canuck I appreciate its winter driving abilities.
I like the exterior styling, I love that there is no chrome or gloss black on the exterior also. The big let down and thing that would keep me from buying an Impreza is the transmission, Subaru needs to bring either bring back a manual or a regular automatic transmission, the CVT is a deal breaker.
The blue is nice Joe, and I'm glad there's no black plastic cladding around the wheels thank goodness for that. I think the head and taillights design is much more sharper now than ever. Would be cool to maybe see a wilderness variant of the Impreza maybe one day 🤔 But man Joe it certainly seems like your making your rounds on that showroom floor. 👌 Excited to see the rest of what you got for us.

As always I love your Subaru reviews !! I like the new RS Impreza coming out for 2024 along with the Sport and base model. I've heard the RS model will be produced in Japan, will the sport model also be produced in Japan ? I have called dealers and even Subaru of America and can't get the answer to this question. I'm on my 3rd Impreza and love the car and considering a new 2024 in either RS or Sport. I figure with your contacts you may be able to find the answer for me.
Wish the new WRX also had the heated seat controls as physical switches vs having to go through the touchscreen!
Best Bang 4 Buck anywhere where AWD is a must. Reliable, Cheap to buy, Cheap to keep, Great resale. Modest acceleration.

Cvt’s are far from reliable 😂 especially Subaru’s!
That is an impressive car with storage and safety that separate it from some other worthy competitors. Subaru also has a great eye for color. Lagoon Blue may be the name and it is an attention grabber. Seating materials look impressive and comfortable too.
It is a shame that royalties are still being paid out to the Edison Family on those turn signal bulbs though. Once again a tip of the cap to Lori who knows how to give us a look through the lens at the intricate details on all your reviews. Bravo!
I bought a '24 Impreza. Very comfortable and roomy inside (bought the RS) with lots of standard equipment. Obviously low o the ground but with good visibility but underpowered. I had it for a month and a halt and traded it for a '24 Crosstrek with the 189 hp motor.
You're in Chicago Joe, you should reference the size of the center consoles to how many Portillo's chocolate cakes can fit in them. Or the door bins to how many hot dogs or Italian beef sandwiches you can fit in.
At this point I think that when Joe says "let me know what you think about that..." it means that he's not a fan.. Just a theory! 😁

Been holding on to my 2018 Impreza limited for a wrx hatch 🙏
Still disappointed that they got rid of the manual transmission, and couldn't even bother to offer it on the RS unless they want to make the WRX a hatch again.
The exterior would be better if Subaru can redesign the tail lights which is really like current Honda Accord and they do not look good. 😮💨
I would defiantly like more power considering the Mazda 3 has 186hp which is the car that's on the top of my list right now (for what I can afford). I think the turbo is around 250hp. Also, the Mazda has a great stereo system which is something I need. What I don't like about the Mazda are the small back window and less cargo space. I could defiantly use the extra space this has. I hate having to compromise but that's what I gotta do with limited funds

Eyesight makes windshield replacements to cost north of $1500 due to the required dealership “camera calibration”
This is true but there are many windshields now that have that same kind of caliubration
@@RaitisRides you don’t calibrate the windshield, you calibrate the camera that’s on the car to the new windshield lines that are not exactly in the same place as the old one. Cmon man you’re a car guy

I had a Subaru outback , the problem was the engine was gutless.
The Mazda still has the best powertrain. Subaru is definitely getting better, but still finishes third amongst the 3 you mentioned.

@@asmc1492 When did Colin McRae ever have black unpainted plastic cladding on his WRC Impreza? And how many people buy a brand new WRX to rally race? It's not like the wheel wells of last gen WRXs were rusting off or people were complaining about them taking damage from offroading.

I like how Subaru keeps the roofline high in the backseat, tries to maximize the amount of glass, and doesn’t charge for colors, along with allowing you to factory order. Shame that the WRX doesn’t have this body. I’d rather have it be more lowkey with how terrible the reputation is for WRX drivers. Maybe give us a hybrid powertrains since we’re stuck with slush box transmissions

I also like the 8nterior of the Empresa but I feel like the back seat passengers are going to suffer because of the lack of amenities like the A/C vents, USB's, heated seats, and driver side pocket I feel like Subaru wants to keep price down and even though it's not intended to rival Mercedes-benz, BMW, or the other apostles to luxury but as the Apostle to the pets I see why they have to perform cost cutting.

The exterior of this Impreza hasn’t aged well, it looks old like a car design from 2004-2009. Those days of Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Matrix, Toyota Scion xB, Ford Focus hatchback and even Nissan Cube era.

I was disappointed Subaru discontinued the Impreza sedan for 2024, but they did a very nice job with the hatchback.
I have a 2020 impreza and I wanted to get the new impreza but like you mentioned they ditched the sedan. I'll be keeping my current 2020 impreza

I hate the push button parking brake and giant screen controls, it's going away from what Subaru stands for. Maybe the best 'modern' Impreza was the 2019 2.0 NA with a 5 speed, felt as peppy as an old NA Bugeye, just heavier.

Subaru massively messed up only offering it with a CVT. The RS badge is a waste. I've only driven Subaru's the last 10+ years and my next car will not be one.

I am actually interested in the RS. In all honesty the 2.5 should be standard. That 2.0 needs to be put out of its misery. It is pathetic by modern standards. If it was FWD only, maybe they could get away with it. Bit with AWD and that puny engine the car is dangerously slow. The 2.5 is what it needs just to be adequate.

@@wvusmc Im not saying every vehicle needs to be high performance, but there are legitimate safety concerns with something so slow. I used to have a mazda 5 minivan with a little NA 2.3. It was a great reliable vehicle, but nearly got my family killed. We took it on a trip from Chicago to TN and could not get up to speed quick enough while getting on the highway and we were run off the road by a semi. Never again will I buy something that weak.
@@boost331 I understand. I live in Appalachia and merging onto the interstate here can be pretty sketchy or trying to pull through some elevation changes you need that umph. I own two Subarus and both are turbo models. Subaru is so practical here, but man, their NA cars are so dangerously underpowered.

I really want this color on the new Crosstrek. It's unfortunate that the upper trim Crosstreks won't be Made in Japan but all will be forgiven if I can get the Crosstrek in this gorgeous blue

@@wvusmc all new Imprezas are assembled at the Gunma Japan plant so if this is not available on the Crosstrek it is exclusive to the plant at Japan.
For Canadian market all Crosstrek trims will be made in Japan

I wanted to replace (3) Honda Civics
with (3) 2024 Subaru Imprezas hatchback premium trim level.
Unfortunately Subaru has done away that trim level. The base trim level doesn’t offer blind spot monitoring, keyless entry with push button start as a option, which means I left with the sport trim that has 18 inch low profile tires. I don’t understand why Subaru puts 18 inch low profile tires on a vehicle with a 2.0 liter engine, it makes for more road noise and for people who have to deal with potholes on our roads, this is not good.
Subaru, please bring back the premium trim level on the Subaru Impreza, or offer blind spot monitoring, along with keyless and push button start, or offer the sport trim with 16 inch alloy wheels without low profile tires.
This or the Crosstrek sport? Same engine with more functionality?
Crosstrek has higher clearance so if you live where it snows like snow snow get the cross trek but if it's just 10" year round get a Impreza

I like everything about this car except it lost the manual... It looks better than current WRX w/o cladding, it is a hatch, nice choice of colors, 2.5L 182 HP should be enough...but no MT is a no-go...

I’m betting this will be a solid, good handling compact car. Love the hatchback body style and sharpened looks. All the bemoaning about no manual being offered when Subaru said the take rate was 3% is comical, and this is coming from a manual driver for over 45 years with presently an ‘02 WRX wagon. Subaru is a boutique car manufacturer without the resources to develop several different transmission types being available in all their car lines. We recently rented an ‘03 Subaru Forester Wilderness in New England for a week and it was my first extended foray into the CVT, NA 2.5 and EyeSight safety systems. I found it to be responsive and reasonably quick, the paddle shifters and driving modes worked as they should and was impressed with the adaptive cruise and headlights. It also confirmed for me that while it handled great for the type of vehicle it was, a top heavy CUV is not for me. I’m a sport wagon guy with very few choices available. This decent sized compact hatch in RS model configuration with updated chassis, powertrain, AWD and being 500 lbs lighter than the Forester has more than a little potential. Looking forward to the driving reviews.
The impreza has such a low hp engine. My old engine from 2000 has close to the same. I know I can buy a wrx if I want more power but even the sti is behind the times hp wise.
