Thank you so much for making this video. I have been agonizing about my Koi Lucky suffering and its at the point now that he is beyond recovery. This video has given me the pice of mind that he will not suffer any longer.
Yesterday I had to euthanize one of our koi that Has been in the group for many years. She was very ill and it was time. I am so incredibly grateful for this information. We did everything described in this video and the transition was peaceful and painless for the fish. She never showed any signs of stress and I just wanted to say Thank You. In my opinion This is the most humane way of handling the situation. Now I just have to put myself back together emotionally 😢

I do. Right now.😢 This was helpful. I have only had to do this with small freshwater aquarium fish, never with our pond koi outside. Ours was obviously attacked, probably by a heron's beak, through the net. Been on the bottom for 3 days and still alive. Can't swim. Pretty sure it broke his spine by the location of the wound. So sad. They are pets.

My comet is 10 years old...she is very sick now and treatments haven't worked. Thankyou for this video, I hate to have to do it but I cannot see her suffering..I will be purchasing clove oil ASAP 😢

@@BabblinginmyBackyard he still alive I threw everything at saving him I changed his diet completely to veg chopped small and peas cut out the flakes and pellet food to minimum often missing days focusing on peas and zucchini then I gave him daily Epsom baths three times a week for a month and he’s ok now
In the process of putting our Wolf cichlid down...... unfortunately there was a leak this morning and we have no way to fix the tank, nor rehome him. I've called every vet, animal hospital and fish store and no one can take a fish his size :// thank you though, it's extremely hard to put such a massive fish down

Tough decision. Mine was not eating. I tried to get him to eat but he would not. I would try peas with no peals first. That sometimes works to clean them out and they get better. Don't get your hopes up too much but if they are still around, it's worth a try.
Have you ever used clove oil on yourself? That would literally be torture! Just shoot it, boil it or quickly end it. Holy crap that would be horrible. I completely get that you are trying to be humane but I don't see any way this would be anything but a horrible way to die for the fish. Clove oil burns and hurts. Yes it can numb over time but it's pretty harsh stuff.
When it is diluted in water it creates a slow numbing. I soaked my hands in it when I first used this method. This is also why I slowly add the oil-water mix. If it burned the fish, the fish would thrash and swim frantically. I thought about clubbing the fish to end it quickly, this is what I would do if I were fishing, but I could not get myself to do it with this fish.
do your research on this, it does not hurt the fish. if it did it would be thrashing around in pain, this is the most humane way to euthanize a fish. since the oil is so diluted it just acts as a sedative and slowly puts the fish to sleep.
That’s why he adds it in small amounts. The first step is to sedate it. Once asleep, you add more to stop breathing. Fish then dies of hypoxia - all this happening during unconsciousness.
This is incorrect. Clove oil is very humane IF done properly, as was done here. The man just lost his pet. How can you make such harsh comments without (obviously) having done proper research?
Just sad that this poor guy had to put down a sick fish, then have an uninformed commenter tell him he tortured the beloved fish. In the book of Job, his friends come to comfort him during his time of loss. They sat silent for days on end, their mistakes started when they opened their mouths. Sometimes just being with a hurting person can do more than offering our verbal opinions.
I just used to put down my 7 year old comet. Took about ten minutes but now he’s gone. Thank you for your help

Isn’t the clove oil just suffocating it? How does it work, one of my koi had a big tumour and I want the let him go in the most humane way possible
I had to put mine down today, and honestly even though it’s a fish it still got me down.
I still think about this fish regularly. I another Yamabuki but I haven't found one that would match up in my mind.
