    I think "when the clock strikes 12" should have been a finalist. The piece was very polished and thoughtful, and there didn’t seem to be any clear criticism for it.

    Thank you so much for the feedback Ryan and Mark, really loved the additions you made aswell to broaden the texture and shape. It was a bit unfortunate that the intro tempo was really fast somehow after the xml import? Was supposed to be like 50% slower at least to build up a certain tension which is lost now. Anyway that was some very solid advice to advance my progress, can't wait for the next event!

    Great video, super constructive! Thanks especially to Mark for taking the time to not just critique but write out his suggested changes so we could really hear the before and after. I know that had to be time consuming, but it was well worth it - the highlight of the video for me. More Mark re-writes please!

    Under the category of careful what you ask for...LOL! Many thanks Ryan and Mark for taking the time to review this and offering your feedback and suggestions, which are extremely valuable. I went into this not knowing as much as I do now (which is still very little), but this opens my eyes further. Thanks again!

    After watching this, I can see where I went wrong. I was going for a theme and variations kind of idea; I can see where it would sound like a long intro, or short B, or the like. Next time!

      Which is always welcome to those with humility and self-judgement. But, yeah, at the end of the day, it is one opinion that might be subjective, though part of it can always be welcome

    The bass trombone in the first piece is so low (more in a tuba contrabass trombone range) There're mostly pedal tones which in orchestral writing are actually useful for long tones only (pedal tones are really hard to articulate shortly) 1:14

    To be honest, many of the programs are temperamental - they will often error out - no matter what you try! Therefore having a perfect score can be difficult for some people - especially those who are not computer savvy! Maybe, allow hand written scores to allow those, who might be talented, the opportunity to show their skills!

      It all comes down to what the piece needs to be to win the competition. It doesn't mean that it is superior, but it is the best fit. Here it should be impactful above everything... you know those pieces that grow in you over time? They may not be the best fit here. Maybe Brahms or Debussy wouldn't see the podium

    • @joaoaugustodomingues719
      @joaoaugustodomingues719 Год назад +2

      And that is not meant to critique the competition. Just another view of something that fits it, rather than pure superiority of sound
